I understand why Sony is censoring these games now. With the latest SJW movements and seeing how these games objectify women they are just protecting themselves from possible negative articles. Now more than ever, there are lots of eyes scrutinising every thing game related.
Lots of eyes?
It's a small minority with a loud voice.

It's like Sony new double standards - TLOU2 and Dream Daddy so awesome - Japanise games = bad.
My (hot) take about why Sony do this based about what I read at Dan Houser's thread at ERA :
- SIE at operational level of company almost 80% westerner " : HQ at California, etc etc.
- Political atmosphere at western (specifically USA ) world now due to have an "unpopular" man of chief are high: both side are militant, angry etc (left and right).
- Which make several people (at Sony, At gaming media (Era,polygon) feel need to make their political movement (LGBT and sexual dominance by male hetero) included/banned in their creation / product they sell / piece they write.
- That's way LGBT games been greenlighted and "sexual predator" games banned cause they think this "progressive" policy will helping their political movement against evil right wing Nazis who now take a lead of their free world western country.

My (baseless) prediction: this shit will came back to normal after 2020 or 2024.

Were you the same person that understood Sony had to protect the children from cross play?

This is game with dongs. You have to remember that dongs and non cis romance=good, cis romance or fanservice= male gaze, misogyny etc.

How much literal boob grabbing is there in Dream Daddy?

Nudity =/= Sex
At least Europe is well aware of that, America seems to have issues separating them.

Your prediction is wrong. They were paving the way for gaming under Madam President. When this didn't happen, and people told them "you also have a small degree of responsibility for what happened" they went "fuck you, we will double down" and that's where we are today. If a liberal progressive president gets elected after Trump, expect Japanese games, or any game with fanservice targeting white cis men, to be completely blacklisted from publishing.

Nothing to do with nudity, everything to do with target demographics. If that visual novel was Bara (google), they would've put it on the front page of the PS store.

If you can’t understand that new rules of censorship from Sony doesn’t necessarily mean censoring older games (which could also mean lawsuits) then the problem is you don’t have the logic to see the common sense in my posts. Sorry.
Ok then, so you are saying the PS4 version of Cyberpunk -- or any PS4 game henceforth, due to these "new rules of censorship" that you just made up -- will have no nudity. Good to know that's your stance.

Oh by the way, there's a new game that just got released on PlayStation 4 today - under your "new rules of censorship" - that has nudity. It's called Red Dead Redemption 2. Perhaps you've heard of it? Oh well, so much for your theory. That got shat on quick.

Disingenuous posting, ladies and gentlemen.

You know full well the scale of which the gaming "media" pushes these hypocritical stances, as well as the double standards it entails. You can have sexual (whether implicit or hinted) romances with underage children (The Last of Us, a western game), however it is then demonized as "catering to the male gaze" or "promoting pedophilia" (Atelier Series, made by japanese studios). There is a clear and present bias towards western media as has been stated multiple times in this very thread, with examples at that.

You would know that if you read the thread instead of throwing out shitty, disingenuous posts.

Ahh, OK. My post is bad and disingenuous but the guy who said...

His post was highly exaggerated nonsense, however it also held a hint of truth (buried underneath the aforementioned exaggerated nonsense). Yours was filled with mischaracterization, petty retorts, pure falsehoods, and a wide generalized insult to GAF as a whole. One warranted a response, the other warranted a shake of the head.

You read my post but you didn't read who I was quoting, that's why you're confused. Nothing that I said was wrong, he on the other hand is very wrong if he thinks this is gonna get better after Trump is gone. Why would they ever stop? It's gonna get ugly, they're gonna crack down on everything that triggers them to the last detail. I suspect the Crunchyroll cartoon that enraged customers serves the same purpose: let them take control over who says what anime deserves an english release, therefore dictating censorship. Kinda like what the media did to Tecmo and Dead or Alive but on a grander scale.

The reality of things is, the only way for the agendas to die off is a complete collapse of Silicon Valley.

Of course they are allowed to restrict content on their platform, but people who like such content will not like it, which should be clear.

I have to ask though, how can one consider such imagry as above immoral? I mean, uninteresting, yes, of course, I'd even agree on that, but immoral? I cannot see who is harmed in any way through some drawings of partially undressed women.
To be honest? I find any image that is created to cause sexual arousal like pornography to be immoral. I believe that sex is sacred as a christian, and to try to encourage men to lust and pine over imaginary women when they could truly love (and I don't mean lust) real women is just bad. Pornography shows too little of the person that is being displayed. If I want to love a woman, I want to know who she is, what her dreams are, why she does the things she does. To love someone is to be willing to give yourself completely over to them and to will their betterment. With porn, I am not giving anything, and I am not bettering myself or these imaginary women.

These are half naked cartoons, they don't have dignity. However, they encourage sexual deviancy. I would imagine the purpose of these games is to look at these anime women and imagine intercourse with them, which is strange and seems unhealthy, no? Most women don't have the incredibly exaggerated features these characters have. This could create some kind of fetish and hinder performance with the real woman you actually love.

I understand that censorship can be problematic, but my joke was to basically show that people were literally upset at not being able to see naked or half naked anime women. It is silly. Also, the game still exists uncensored on other platforms, so Sony's censorship only affects playstation owners. They also have the right to censor if they want.

I really feel like there is a double standard on censorship and what is deemed as acceptable now with Western games vs Japanese games. Imho, there has always seem like there is clear favoritism towards Western developers compared to Japanese developers in the industry in what is appropriate in gaming.

Then again, I’m sure the ridiculous standards, hypocrisy and expectations created by the West and social media is unfortunately influencing so much of the world now and certain games have to suffer for it.

Them giving into some loud minority reeeing about games they would never buy anyway, and are not gonna do a single dent into sonys profits even if these games are released completely uncensored, is truly disgusting.

You can do both, mate. Also you have a severe lack of understanding on porn. There is plenty that focuses on the characters, the romance between them, and how closely they bond. I would suggest educating yourself.

I find it far more unhealthy with your strange obsession of promoting censorship because you, personally, cannot handle it. You seem to feel the need to want control over what other people view/do. Of course, this may not be the case. However this is the observation obtained from the posts.

And no, people are not "angry" that they can't see "half naked anime women". They are angry because they are removing content, promoting censorship, and changing the final product that was meant for adults to begin with.

Do you really think you can truly love a videogame character? A bunch of 1s and 0s that are preprogrammed to say a bunch of things. I think a person who chooses imaginary women over real, breathing women who are unique people who have their own desires, personalities, and values is crazy.

I don't think you understand what I am trying to articulate, and perhaps the fault is on my own end, so I apologize. I am NOT promoting censorship to blur out pornographic material. I am saying that the company who makes such games has a right to make them as explicit as possible. I am also saying that Sony has the right to censor materials they deem innappropriate. It isn't good on the creativity of developers, and it leads to incomplete games, but it is something that is their full legal right. Whether or not censorship is good is another topic to be had.

And no, people are not "angry" that they can't see "half naked anime women". They are angry because they are removing content, promoting censorship, and changing the final product that was meant for adults to begin with.
The product itself is meant to be sexual, by removing some sexual elements, said product starts losing its value. I see no reason to buy this game other than for its sexual content, unless you can come up with a good reason other than seeing half naked anime women? So, in effect, people are upset that they can't truly see the pornographic things they want to see in a porn game.

Ok, there's so much to take in. Let me get this straight because I want to be clear, there's a hint of truth in his post, which, again, was....

Your prediction is wrong. They were paving the way for gaming under Madam President. Be so kind as to point out this "truth" to a simpleton like myself. I'm sure it's there, I'd just like you to elaborate on it if you will.

You read my post but you didn't read who I was quoting, that's why you're confused. I read your post and his. He twice conceded his post was his "hot" take and admitted to it being "baseless." Hard to argue with a man who admits as much. You spoke in a more matter of fact tone, and yet actually had more outrageous claims.

This is not to say I care, per se. It's an internet message board have your fun and knock yourself out. But let's not act surprised when every now and then an individual (myself, in this instance) calls out some of these claims just to show how far off the rails this shit has been taken.

That isn't what you stated. You asked if you could lust/pine for a fictional character while still loving a real women. You can do both. Do not move goalposts.

I don't think you understand what I am trying to articulate, and perhaps the fault is on my own end, so I apologize. I am NOT promoting censorship to blur out pornographic material. They have clearly shown that the issue is *not* what they deem inappropriate as they had just released a game that does those very things that they found inappropriate in another game.

The product itself is meant to be sexual, by removing some sexual elements, said product starts losing its value. I see no reason to buy this game other than for its sexual content, unless you can come up with a good reason other than seeing half naked anime women? The game isn't a porn game, as has been stated multiple times prior. Please stop with the disingenuous claims.

What? I never made any statement about not being able to lust while also loving a real person. I said it was impossible to love a video game character and that it is stupid to "love" someone imaginary over a real human being.

By the way, I don't think you can "love" both as you can't love a videogame character in the first place.

Here is what you highlighted from me:
"I believe that sex is sacred as a christian, and to try to encourage men to lust and pine over imaginary women when they could truly love (and I don't mean lust) real women is just bad. "

You can truly love a person in the real world and also pretend to be in a relationship with a game character, but you can't actually "love" the video game character. I was arguing that it is harder to actually love someone by lusting over another.

How exactly do you define lust and love? They are not the same thing man.

They have clearly shown that the issue is *not* what they deem inappropriate as they had just released a game that does those very things that they found inappropriate in another game
Sure. They still censored it though. The point still stands.

The game isn't a porn game, as has been stated multiple times prior. Please stop with the disingenuous claims.
Are you kidding?

"Nora, Princess, and Stray Cat is a Japanese adult visual novel developed by Harukaze and was released for Windows PC on February 26, 2016."

It is listed as an adult visual novel game with heavy sexual elements. It is also listed as eroge, which apparently means erotic game.

Are you the kind of person that says that something isn't pornographic if it doesn't actually include intercourse?

I know full well they are different things, but do you? You state that Sex is sacred to a christrian. This I agree. However, you then state that "to try to encourage men to LUST AND PINE OVER IMAGINARY WOMEN when they could truly love (and I don't mean lust) real women IS JUST BAD." You literally state that you cannot love a real women and still lust/pine over imaginary women in that statement. I disagreed with that statement. You can still love a real women and still lust/pine over imaginary ones. As you stated, lust and love are not the same thing. Please work on your wording.

You need to educate yourself on the game.

Porn:
  1. sexually explicit videos, photographs, writings, or the like, whose purpose is to elicit sexual arousal.
The game, as it is being released on consoles, has no sexually explicit videos, photographs, writings, or the like. The game was never going to ship with porn in it. Ecchi (noting or pertaining to a subgenre of Japanese manga, anime, computer games, etc., characterized by light, playful sexual themes and imagery) is not the same as Hentai (noting or pertaining to a subgenre of Japanese manga, anime, computer games, etc., characterized by explicit sexual themes and imagery).

I will give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you did not understand how these things work. Eroge in Japan are usually 18+ with pornographic images in it. However, when released on consoles - the porn is removed. The games are not pornographic on the console releases. This is not new and has been done for nearly 20+ years. Therefore, the game is not pornographic on the platforms we are discussing (PS4, Switch).

Ok, maybe my wording was wrong. In any case, I think it is difficult to love someone while pining over something fictitious. There are many men that struggle with porn and love their wives greatly, but it isn't the healthiest thing to do.

You need to educate yourself on the game.

I don't know anything about japanese porn or how it works. However, wouldn't the images shown in this thread be considered pornographic in nature because of the clear sexual content? I mean, there is an image of a woman in a swimsuit lifting up her front piece with "fudge me" eyes and a picture of a bunch of women changing in a shower with one grabbing her breasts. If that isn't sexual, I don't know what is. I mean this stuff is still coming on the switch, right?

Does this mean that the game that is coming out on consoles is censored, even without the sony censorship? That it gets more sexual on pc? That actually weirds me out on a personal level.

Is it true Sony moved its headquarters to California? Isn't that ground zero for the SJW infection?

My (baseless) prediction: this shit will came back to normal after 2020 or 2024.
This will never get back to normal. Marxist indoctrination in schools is something that took decades to reach this point. It'll only get worse.

Implicit != Explicit. The images shown are not pornographic.

Waiting on that Sony PrudeStation 5.

I’d say that Sony should be consistent and censor gratuitous violence in addition to sexual content, but then I remember that AAA games, which often draw in a ton of revenue, won’t ever be subject to this treatment and are full of blood, gore, death, and violence.

Let ratings boards do their work. They specialize in deciding what content is appropriate for which age. If people are going to be offended because content in certain games exists, they can remove the thorny sticks from their asses and/or just not buy said games.

I always associated pornography with things like full frontal nudity and sexual intercourse. I think media like erotic visual novels are typically classified as more sexually suggestive or racy than pornographic.

Then again, I could definitely understand someone looking at some erotic visual novels and insinuating that it is pornography from a first glance because some of them get really close to nudity or even porn in some ways.

Really? Either way they are very sexual images. I thought there was a difference between porn. Like isn't "soft" naked people or half naked people in suggestive poses, while "hard" is sex? Wouldn't this be "soft"?

Really? Either way they are very sexual images. I thought there was a difference between porn. Like isn't "soft" naked people or half naked people in suggestive poses, while "hard" is sex? Wouldn't this be "soft"?
Images like this can be considered "sexual images" but you can't really call it pornographic.

I think there is a little more nuance to these definitions. The Witcher has sex while most Japanese games don't but I wouldn't call the Witcher porn or anything. There's quite a few levels to sexual or suggestive imagery. Go too broad with the definitions and we could end up labeling more games porn than not, lol~

I give you another example: both these two anime have sex scenes but only Mezzo forth considered pornographic.

Would this be considered erotic violence?
Tim and eric?

Also, ouch!

I don't know much about porn, so I don't know differences and definitions very well. I personally would consider anything that is made to make a person want to have relations to be something sexually suggestive or pornographic. I would not consider something like the Venus de Milo to be pornographic despite being somewhat revealing. Something being naked does not make it porn. If art is using sexuality to show feminity or show the beauty of the woman's body in a pure form, I would not consider it pornographic. I suppose definition wise this stuff in the game isn't technically porn, but I consider it sexually suggestive.

Again, I dont know anything about porn, and have no intention to delve into it.

When do you personally think art turns into pornography? Where is the line in your opinion? (genuine question).

Just like the example I showed above, both those anime have sex scenes but only Mezzo can be considered pornographic because in Mezzo there is full nudity that shows productive organs and they show people cum. In Gantz it shows people having sex but other than nipples it doesn't have full nudity.

Do you mean the cross dresser? That was the Yakuza studios decision, not Sony's as far as I know.
I think the Yakzua team were "reading the landscape" over in Cali and decided this was the best decision for the game without having to delay it after potentially being forced to remove it

It sucks that the developers are having to pre-empt what they think is right or wrong, but thats Gaming 2018 for us :(

Can you show me where else things like this are being censored?

*EDIT*
Also, there is absolutely nothing wrong with looking at the female form. Whether it is real life or animated does not matter. So I don't understand why you are trying to insult people by calling them "perverted".

Who cares it is literally soft porn. The chick is holding the other chicks tit like come on you cant sit there and be like o thats just fine! Again its 2018 where you can look at a girl and its sexual harassment. Sony dont want that look plan and simple. Japanese devs just need to fucking calm it down with the softcore porn they label "games"

First of all mass effect came out over ten fucking years ago...so your point is moot again we live in a different world now. Im sorry your precious Japanese porn games are getting censored. Give it time games in the west will follow suit this is just the first step. And for that matter Japanese games have always been more revealing then western games this is fact. Again sonys doing this because one lil bad press and literally ruin companies this day in age. They dont want feminists to start crying because you can grope another chicks tit in a "game"

I guess in eyes games like Catherine is more "revealing" than sex scenes in Witcher 3. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I don't know if this was just not thinking for a moment, or a typo, or you genuinely think that's how the phrase goes, but this is wrong. Your point is moot. The word is moot. Not a big deal, just no need to go through life saying the wrong thing.

From Wikipedia:
Moot may refer to: Mootness, in American law: a point in a case is said to be moot when it has been made irrelevant, and therefore, does not need to be considered further. Whereas, in British law, mootness means that it remains debatable.
Way to be confusing again, English language.

You sound angry and you sound like you want these games banned/censored. If you have a big problem with them, just look away rather than affect countless other lives just because of your own precious virws.

Let's be real here though, they are no where near softcore porn. Swimwear and lingerie is not porn. God forbid if you think they are softcore, what the hell do you do if you see a lingerie catalogue in your house?

You bring up one good point though, you censor one thing, next minute everything is censored. I don't like my movies censored and I don't want my games censored.

These weird Japanese games have context which is not in other games. It might be fine in Japan where they sell used underwear for dudes to sniff out, but doesn't bode well in the US.

Swimwear by itself is not porn. I'm sure a weekly flyer showing kids wearing swim gear is not pornographic and anyone seeing it is not considering it geared to racy intentions.

All those anime games which are getting censored are in a totally different context, which is young anime teenagers spreading their legs, showing panties or bending over stick their asses out as cyber-pervs get their jollies going into photo mode hoping to take the best pics.

Let's face it, I think gamers as a whole know there's a difference, and you do too. There's always going to be pervy dudes who like young kiddie stuff. Game companies are trying to cut it out. I'm sure pervs can get their fun scouring 4chan or other weird sites for what they want.

Not mad at all i just think its pathetic you guys act like sony is the only one censoring shit. And again THE CHICK IS HOLDING THE OTHER CHICKS TIT if it was just some underwear (that wasnt half off) i could see your argument.
