isn't the transformation R3 + L3? how can I hold that down :x
This game has almost too much shit packed in.

Assist meters.
Climax attacks.
AND transformations.
That's THREE meters! on top of the combo system that already requires timing.
It will all come together. Just remember combos build all the meters except for the assist meter. When you learn how to tag cancel cool combos it becomes much smoother.

I might need to hit practice mode cause I don't think I have all of the systems down yet tbh. Some of the stuff is pretty straight forward but unsure about a lot of stuff still.
Let me give you a hint of some of the stupid shit I did with practice mode.

Is there a place where I can see characters plus costumes?

Any Canadian gaffers order from Best Buy Canada online (this version here) http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/xseed-onechanbara-z2-chaos-banana-split-playstation-4-853466001759/10370192.aspx?icmp=blogenfeatureJunegames01jun15 and that's the version is the one with the art book and CD?

I'm going to order this online tonight and I want the one with the art book, CD and bsc code. It seems like it is. Amazon canada has that verison also but doesn't give any verison if it's the art book/cd one.

I don't want to order from EB games since the page says "pre-order bonus" and not sure if they are still available.

Yep, look for the Banana Split Edition label.

Nothing to do with pre-orders; the first run of the physical game are all Banana Splits with the costume, artbook, and CD.

Perfect. Thanks Aske. Going to order it through Best Buy Canada. I don't like to give EB games any of my money lol.

I wish there was a proper tutorial system, like fighting games character specific mission mode. This is one of her perfect timing combos, now you do it. This is her launcher, now you do it. This is how you switch after a "cool" combo. now you do it. Stuff like that.

I guess that having half of the skills locked may be part of the reason but still, I'm almost done with the story mode and I'm still learning stuff through a loading screen.

Really loving the game, I just don't like the idea of hitting gamefaqs to learn how to play it properly.

Okay, I'm super early in the first town looking area with Saki and Saaya, there's an arrow pointing me to a dead end, there's no enemies, where the heck am I supposed to go?

Once you get the combat down this game is actually quite fun to play. I'm satisfied I got the banana split limited edition for sure.

I was stuck on that forever last night, just go back to the original starting location and there should be a stairway that leads up to a bridge. The arrow is useless.

You're not wrog about how awesome a more in depth tutorial would be, but it's like Ninja Gaiden: all the moves are in the battle menu. As for the systems, read the manual! I don't think there's anything on the loading screen you can't read in the manual.

I bought it digitally and when I tried to read the online manual my PS4 almost kicked the bucket. I don't know what's going on, it's a 1gb PDF or something?

We're looking into that. Fortunately, digital manuals are stored separately -- not on the game disc, nor in the PSN download, but on an external server -- so any problems we find, we can correct ourselves without too much trouble. Try reading it again tomorrow, and hopefully we'll have figured out the problem and remedied it by then.

Sorry for the trouble!

Ahh, I see. I never used the online manuals on the PS4 so I didn't know if the performance drop was becuase of that one specifically or just in general. It's fine on my part, I got almost everything down now :p

Anyways, finished story mode on normal. I can tell already that I'm gonna spend a lot of time playing this. Loved every second of it.

How do you unlock more costumes by the way? By playing on harder difficulties? I got a couple of swimsuits on normal.

PS: I really like Kagura's voice actress. Very distinctive voice full of personality.

Goddammit, this doesn't come out in Australia until next week.

I have to admit, I've long dismissed the Oneechambara series, but I fell in love the moment I saw that unapologetically cheesy trailer.

Where did you hear this from? All sites I check seem to say Aug 27th for Aus and EU =\

I'm bummed, I wanted to play it now

Well, either way, we think the problem is fixed now, so if you have a chance, give it another look-see. ;)

So, I know nothing of this game, aside from that people seem to think its a guilty pleasure type of action game. I kinda want a game that thats short, and one thats long. Ill be grabbing neir tomorrow. Would this be a fun game to mess around in with a bunch of friends over a weekend to fill that short game slot?

Great too see people enjoying the game, it's definitely been one of the more enjoyable titles I have played on PS4. Now I am just waiting for the EU release, hopefully we get the same edition as the US with the artbook.

NISA already announced the release date and didn't mention a special edition. If you want it you'll have to import

This game is short but good for replaying. The action is great, as the combat is fun and it runs superbly. Your friends will likely enjoy laughing with and at it, so it's not a bad buy. Just go in expecting a grindhouse, low budget experience. I'd recommend going digital unless you resell your games. The less you pay, the better.

Still trying to get the combat down, any tips or things to remember? I played it in a half-asleep state last night, so that probably had something to do with it! Still trying to get used to the controls.

The game is a sequel but can I play it without playing the others ?

There's a story recap at the start and some lore is exposited on the loading screens (something rather neat, there's 33 loading screen tips and you can just manually flip through them on the loading screen). The story is basically "vampire lady bad, kill. You good vampire, don't die" though. Everything is pure cheese.

Sounds like it's around 4 hours (I'm terrible at judging game length myself) and highly replayable, it doesn't seem to have co op though. Could pass the controller for different characters though I guess

There's a fair bit of things to remember, Kagura is pretty OP though so just using her is a good start while you're learning and her trick daggers are especially good at high combos so they're good for earning yellow orbs via rank. I'm just finally learning to use Cool moves and they're a really not too hard, you just delay the next button press a bit to make it work. It's a lot like how certain combos in Bayonetta work except it's optional. Also, holding the attack button in a normal combo usually results in a launch.

Don't worry about perfecting the combat too much early on, you still have a ton of extra combo extensions/etc to learn via the shop. I bought the yellow orbs + item, put it on Kagura and almost all my other orbs have gone into combos, nearly done buying them and also close to beating the game once.

I believe there is 4 player mode actually.

I remember the Japanese trailer showing 4 player action and promoting it like that

I think that just means the player can use all four characters for switching and Cross Combinations. No mention of co-op/multiplayer in the manual or any sign of it in the game.

Is this game easy to play one-handed?

I don't think so, but you can change the blood into semen in the options menu.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Got the game. Hope the platinum is easy.

I played around with the mission mode last night. It's a ton of fun, and a great way to gain gold orbs and unlock stuff. It also does a superb job of isolating various game mechanics and forcing you to learn them to progress, for those who've mentioned they wanted a better understanding of the various combat systems. But the loading screens are a bit much - one after I pick a mission, then another after I choose my character order. Give me the option to leave my lineup as-is and go straight to the action!

Really? How? Didn't see anything for it, but the main menu is kind of confusing
That is raid mode where you press the touch pad in and all the characters come out and do attacks that you do. If you do it at the right points bosses will melt. For the harder difficulties you will love it for that point.

Well mission mode can get hairy.

Amazon ship outside US for only a few quid if you are willing to wait a week or so.

i.e. Banana Split edition shipped to UK in 10 or so days from Amazon (US) is around £45 - less than a full priced game in a UK shop.

The two hardest trophies (imo): 50 bosses without taking any damage and V-rank on every mission on a single difficulty. I've beaten story mode on casual and medium, I've exactly one unscathed boss kill and no idea where it came from, so this one will take a while...

20 V-ranks though, it's a rollercoaster. I have 8 on medium because for most you can just ignore the objective and combo until 5 stars since time doesn't matter and enemies only die to a certain kind of attack. But in others like "Dodge 10 times", stuff dies and eventually stop respawning, so you can't do that.

I have no idea how to score outside long combos. It's pretty obvious on easy stage sections where I take no damage and still a D rating... I know there's stuff that awards more like leg sweeps and cool finishers, but that's about it and stuff doesn't live long enough. I know there's a better way by looking at the rankings and seeing how some people do the same score I did in 1/3 of the time.

I know of the multiple AI players but I was referring to real co op with meat people

If you want I will show you a very easy way to get a V rank. And a great boss to get untouched on.

There is no co-op in this game. The next one will probably have it.

I feel like an idiot with this QTE sequence on chapter three. The screen shows an arrow pointing down, so I assume that means down with the left stick, but it never works. Someone enlighten me as to what I'm doing horribly wrong.

Edit: it's the touchpad. Hooray for actual
Physical manuals!

All QTE inputs are touchpad. They should have put a dotted background to indicate that like most games do. Also, if you see two arrows, use two fingers, I got caught up on that one. Works better than you'd expect, but the first time threw me through a loop at first too.

Yeah, I looked in the manual and found my answer. Yay for manuals!

Haha I did exactly the same thing. I was stuck there for awhile then I was like oh...right touchpad. :p
