OnLive Bringing PC Games to Tablets. Arkham City, L.A. Noire, Allows Gamepad Use

This thing isn't in the app store yet. When can I get it? I'm on 4.3.3 on my iPad 2. Is this gonna cause problems. Telling me that I need 5.0?

It hasn't officially released for IOS devices yet. People are expecting it to release tommorow or early next week. It seems like Android users get first dibs. This info needs to be added to the OP.

Can the new microcontroller be used with ordinary PC games?

Yes, it can. The original microconsole controller will not work natively. I'm wondering when they will start packing the new Universal Controller with the microconsole.

How the plums is the onlive android app not compatible with my newish 800mhz galaxy ace phone? Feck sake this was sounding really good too. At work currently and wanted to try this on my mobile...

Seriously wtf

Have you downloaded and tried installing it yet? It works on Android 2.3 devices and above. Just because it's not on the compatability list doesn't mean it doesn't work.

Seriously wtf

They're testing device by device instead of just throwing it to everyone to avoid backlash, give it a week or so.

If you have an HTC Flyer, which comes with the OnLive Player App preinstalled, you may have issues launching games. You might have to root the device and uninstall it the app and reinstall it. Users are having issues with that particular Tablet.

HTC will be shortly releasing an update for the HTC Flyer tablet to correct the "unable to launch games issue".

S

You can download the app and sign it. You should then get an email about it being available to you.

I received that email, but Batman doesn't show up under "My Games", and when viewing it on the store it just gives me the option to buy it. Email didn't contain a code to enter or anything.

Am I missing something?

edit: decided to try it again and now the game shows up. Hmm.

Yeah, I think it just takes a while to process all the way through.

These devices use ARMv6 no matter how clever you are, or where you get the APK from, it will NEVER run on these devices.

That's bizarre.

HTC apparently invested a ton of money into OnLive to fund development of the Android version, so I'd imagine that's a large reason why it's coming out before iOS.

Also thanks for linking the APK, curious to see how it runs on my Fire.

Its odd cause now you are bringing a controller and a screen with you, but anywhere you would actually use this seems you would have access to a real device.

I would say the controller for sure. If you are using the controller, you can play this on a normal pc. If we could get a tablet or phone with the controller built on it would be nice.

Seriously stay away from OnLive fans forum unless you love prepubescent flame wars. I did a video walk through for the iPad2 version and I spoke with Steve Perlman last night about it.

Check out onliveinformer.com I put a video up as well for it but I will tell you this I p have the new universal controller and it makes the iPad a real portable game system!!! The touch stuff isn't going to thrill you way to many buttons.

Ask any questions you have and I will try to answer them here or on onliveinformer.com

As for the controller yes you can use it on the pc Mac iPad and android tablets. It has a USB dongle.

The iPhone version isn't coming until later iPad only at first. Though droids have a client out now.
On iPad you have bars on top and bottom similar to dvd's though the android versions due to the shape of the screens fill out perfectly.

Hows the controller feel. I might pick it up since need a new one for pc.

It's identical to the feel of the micro console version which is similar to 360 just a tad fatter feeling it's good but could be better.
I would go with 360 controller if you are doing most pc gaming. Only recommend if you want a tablet controller.

Also for those with a kindle fire you will only get touch controls due to no Bluetooth or USB ports.

I'm really puzzled by the reactions of people here. None of this is new.
It was clear from day one that Onlive would have a player on iOS. They had proof of concept videos running Crysis 1 on iPhones.

They also announced the controllers before the launch of the service.
Now that they've launched and they don't suck (video quality and lag are pretty ok), this is suddenly amazing?

I think the most amazing thing about this service is how you can start playing any game without any installation time. You can fancy a demo, no 1Gb download, just play. If you like the game, just buy and it's there.

Do you know if the controller is open to other iOS devs supporting it in their games?

Will the batman offer stay available until after the iPad version is ready? Until after the iPhone version?

I have a wireless 360 controller so will stick with that on my mac, but if the online controller had the potential to support other games on iPad I'd buy that.

I've been reading impressions that if you can connect a Xbox 360 wired controller to your Android Tablet, it should work. It should work the same as the PC client and microconsole.
I'm wondering what is taking Apple so long in the approval process.

Does this work with xperia play controls?

No, only the direction buttons work. A lot of people have been mentioning that OnLive should support it.

Troubleshooting:
Error Parsing Package - You have the wrong version of Android (Upgrading it will fix this error, but is no guarantee it will work - see above lists)
Unable to Install - You have the viewer installed, remove it
Pink/Purple Hue - You might have to exit out of the App and restart it.

Hearing about it and actually playing it are two different things. I was eagerly awaiting the controller (for emulators) more so then the app itself because I figured it would be unplayable over 4G, but the experience is pretty impressive so far.

I love the instant on style of demos and lack of installation and tweaking settings. OnLive does a pretty good job bringing a console style experience with games to all devices running the service. I might actually be more inclined to try demos now.

And I want more touch controls, more so that I can play Fallout 1/2 on my Bionic.

I tried it on my Viewsonic G Tablet (Tegra 2) last night. Touch controls in-game are just shy of functional, but the core streaming works damn well as expected.

Are 3rd party gamepads supported? My tablet has bluetooth and a full usb port.

I think the 360 controller works but I haven't tested it.

Tried it on my HP touchpad running android. Was extremely impressed. Although I'll never use it b/c I have a gaming pc and all systems etc, this technology is the shit.

This is true for me in the short, at least on tablets. Unless I'm just deahtly ill and can't leave my bed, my gaming PC and consoles still trump this for the moment. On my phone this is absolutely killer, but I'm going to need some clip that holds my phone in place on the controller.

So OnLive actually a did something useful.

They made a USB/Bluetooth universal controller with what looks like a pretty excellent DPAD, superior joystick layout, and media buttons.

I can see myself actually using this in the future.

Not the game streaming service, though. :lol

why waste time with making a controller? just dev the software to recognize the 360 pad.

Because the 360 pad kinda sucks for anything that uses a dpad even a little.

One question, how does the current OnLive controller work with PC games that aren't OnLive, like Skyrim? Does the game recognize it as a 360 controller and give me all the additional UI that comes with it (correct button labels), or is like a regular PC controller and just display all the buttons as 1, 2, 3, etc. and I have to manually set up all the controls?

Just installed this on my Kindle Fire. Lego Batman was loaded up and ready to play. Watched a few minutes of someone playing Batman: AC on the stream, looked decent.

Any ideas when the controller will be up for sale? I saw it was today, but wasn't sure if there was a certain time? I have a feeling these will go fast.

Nobody really knows yet. Only people who have review unit might know, but they have rushed shipments that might not include everything. Once it officially goes on sale, which should be any minute now, we'll find out soon.
