I thought this must have been something that blew up overnight and it had been confirmed to be true.

Still don't understand 93% of the posts in here though.

It wont support 4K-Blu-Ray :)
Maybe, there are three articles speculating the reason is competition with Sony's coming UHD blu-ray player and that at some point after it has been on the market Sony will release a UHD player for the PS4 Pro. The difference is I believe they will release a player for ALL PS4s and compatible Windows 10 PCs as they have a licence for PC drive and PC player APP. If the 2013 and 2015 PS4s are UHD capable, we know they have HDMI 2.0a ports, as stated in efficientgaming.eu by Sony calling them UHD capable with the XB1 and PS3 called HD Capable then the only issue is the drive. Sony made the drive for the PS4s and knew in advance as early as 2010 what the disk drive would have to read and that is version 2 disks mentioned in the 2010 patent and supported in the 2010 BD-R whitepaper.

Releasing a PC UHD blu-ray app and drive is creating competition with their UHD blu-ray player too right? Creating a PC app means Sony wants UHD blu-ray on as many platforms as possible. I posted that 1080P media with HDR using a HEVC HD codec makes a lie of Sony thinking streaming UHD media can be supported with the Internet as it is for the near term.

Remember Sony lied at launch about no DLNA support in the PS4 even though they had plans to support Vidipath which is at it's core a DLNA app. They knew it would be 2016 before HDCP 2.2 was firmware updated for the PS4 and HDCP 2.2 is required for 1080P DTCP-IP (dlna) DRM support for Vidipath which also requires Playready for IPTV. Is the same happening for UHD blu-ray which is coming BEFORE the 2017 Holiday season if I am right. And yes I have been terrible at predicting when Sony does anything.

Jef fundamentaly you're right and I understand PS4 have all the proper hardware to read UHD bluray disks.. However for business reasons that will not happen at a forseeable future.. in fact the chances for that ever happen are almost 0 in my view (i hope I'm wrong) nevertheless I respect your tenacity ;)

And that is all that matters, right?
Of course not, but you notice I am not NOW being called mentally ill, crazy, or insane. Multiple articles are now posting what I have been posting for a year+.

I have been proved right on 1/2 of the hardware feature needed to support UHD Capable and 1/3 of that needed to support UHD Blu-ray with a website where Sony says that the PS4 is UHD capable which would make the PS4 2/3 of the way to UHD blu-ray. More coming features will prove more and more.

Read the thread and notice my stating that the PS4 has a HDMI 2 port has posters calling me crazy. My sticking to my initial statement that the PS4 would support UHD or UHD blu-ray has many calling me crazy, a fraud a Troll etc. Everywhere, including the off topic threads, my stance is assumed inaccurate and used to destroy the messenger.

The derailing by defending myself is one of the Mods reasons for the NeoGAF temporary ban. He should have warned the posters they were derailing the thread but he apparently thinks that my fixation on PS4 hardware features is somehow wrong and of course he is a left wing sympathizer and my bringing speculation from a doctor on HRCs possible medical issues is a ban-able offence but other people stating she has a neurological issue without supporting cites is not ban-able. I guess I made too strong a case by prefacing that people with the issue I listed usually die of Pneumonia due to swallowing difficulties.

Well, you're certainly going to get far on the gaming side by detailing your own threads with talk of unfair moderation by left-wing sympathizers. Really headed in a whole new and exciting direction now.

Jeff even if PS4 Pro and PS4 could do UHD, sony would be competing with itself and killing off a potential revenue generator for their emaciated consumer electronics division if they put 4k bluray into these boxes.

You could be right about every last thing, but I just can't imagine a scenario where Sony feels charitable enough to firmware update 40 plus million to a new disc format with zero profit incentive.

It's sad but true.

XB1 Slim sales will go up right? Sony wants to sell blu-ray disks, including UHD blu-ray and services so they want as many people using the PS4 in living rooms as possible. In the long term it's counter productive to not have UHD blu-ray support as UHD Blu-ray makes a complete media player for the living room. This is why the Xb1 slim has it right? Both want to support ATSC 3 in about 2 years which is why all PS4s are UHD capable. If I am correct about the drive it costs them a fraction of a penny to support UHD blu-ray if the PS4 is UHD capable. The term for a BDA licence for UHD blu-ray is 5 years and they already have one for PCs and Embedded/Game consoles. If they use it in game consoles or not it costs them the same.

Thruway, note the features than need HDCP 2.2 which was in PS4 Firmware 4.0.

Why would the PlayStation division give a shit about selling UHD Blu Rays? If anything they would just distract gamers from buying games.

Yup, I may be banned again for that but it needs to be said. At this point considering how I have been treated by Neogaf posters and Mod(s) I don't think it would be a bad thing.

Jeff people have put up with your rambling nonsense for a lot longer than I honestly think you deserved, but the only reason for that is because of the level of dedication you have been putting into your conspiracy theory warrants at least the respect to investigate your claims.

At the end of the day however, like many, MANY people told you, what you prophesized turned out to be wrong. It doesn't matter how many "I was 1/3 right" or "I was 50% correct" you pull out in trying to support your theory, because you were ultimately wrong. You STILL point out that efficientgaming.eu paper as if it holds any actual meaning.

And the reasons you were wrong had been pointed out to you, repeatedly, over the course of months and months. Even stuff that you were ultimately correct on is stuff that people willingly conceded, but with the caveat that "It doesn't actually matter in the context you think it does".

This thread is literally called "The PS4 will support 4K blu-ray".

And it won't. And even their new and improved model won't.

Nothing you do or say is changing that now.

Truth is shitty.

Jeff I don't know what "Truth" you think you're seeing, but it's at odds with the rest of the world. Normally that would make people stop and reflect on why that is, not continue to lash out that we don't see it the way you do.

If you really think the Mods have a vendetta against you go to Evilore about it. I can tell you I have personally sent in enough requests to them to have your threads renamed and yet they continue to leave it there for the world to see. That's sounds a lot more like the mods had the most sliver of faith in you to be correct rather than holding a vendetta. You just crossed a line by taking your PS4 conspiracy talk into a politics thread.

The 4th edition Blu-ray Disc white paper section 1.4.3 does state that while BD-ROM is technically capable of accessing (same transfer rate) the 50 GB dual layer type disc at 4K 30fps, they cannot be played back due to the video coding method and content protection system incompatibility.

It also specifies that BD-ROM can be used to access triple layer discs up to 100GB as long as the BD_ROM passes compliance to the new standard set in 2015, i.e. compliance with the content protection, video decoding methods, spin rate and minimum mark length.

It is NOT capable of reading BDXL discs (triple and quadruple layer up to 200GB) BD-RE and BD-R

+1 for what Jebusman said.

What is in it for you jeff_rigby? Like, personally?

What is worth so much to stay here and defend lies and untruths or "1/3 truths" as you are calling them now?

Being right on the internet is so important to you?

It is not 2003 anymore and this is not Gamespot's System Wars. World has moved on, Sony is on top. What else do you want to achieve? Are you this active on Twitter and Instagram where it counts?

I don't understand yout stubborness.

Right! Why have netflix and amazon video apps. Why not just have a pure gaming machine if they are worried about distracting users from playing\buying games.

Wow, what the salt. You think criticizing mods right after you're unbanned is really a good idea?

And no, PS4 won't support 4K blu-ray regardless of what you believe or whatever articles you brought up said. We heard Andrew House confirmed this. There is no more room for any speculation.

Thank you for bringing that. We all know that one of the disk formats a BD-ROM 4 drive has to support is Version 2 (reduced mark length and three layers). BD+ BD mark with one of the AACS keys and AACS are different for UHD but older versions were on drives for HD Blu-ray. The UHD disk and drive use the same basic DRM schemes but updated and running in a TEE this time.

I'd be surprised if the BDA allowed a BD-ROM 4 drive to read a BD-RE disk but the PS3 BD-ROM supports 2X speed for frame packed 3D and is allowed to read a BD-RE V2 disk which is a 2008 standard. It does not support V3 BDXL three or four layer with reduced mark length. The PS4 drive exactly the same but at 6X which is the UHD blu-ray with 3D Depth map speed. The PS4 Pro also has a spec for the BD-ROM drive that is 6X CAV. Try to find a BD-ROM selling in 2016 that is that slow. In my opinion 6X CAV is the UHD Blu-ray drive spec not the spec for the drive in the PS4.

Jeff, regardless;

It is against forum policies to take feuds with mods into normal threads. If you have a problem with a mod you need to take it over PM. It doesn't help anything that you expose other posters to the drama.

The reality I think is that getting peoples hopes up can be seen as a form of trolling and the mods respond to the upset rumors that have no basis in reality. There is little interesting that will come from a discussion without anything other than speculation. These sorts of threads never go well!

I have been repeatedly told there is NO HDMI 2 port in the PS4 and called crazy for believing so. No one acknowledged this and some still insist that HDR is being supported without a HDMi 2.0a port and negotiation. That is crazy. It was obvious a year ago that HDCP takes place in the media TEE. Using the same logic with the Southbridge chip's 256 MB of DDR3 supported with a memory chip designed to hide the pins and design described as supporting DRM, it is supporting some function like trusted boot which would not need a memory that size or it's the trustzone Media TEE which also supports a trusted boot for it'self and the APU.

Efficientgaming.EU has Sony calling the 2013 and 2015 PS4 UHD Capable. What is UHD capable? Is it only a HD capable HEVC codec and a HDMI 2.0a port to support HDR for 1080P games and Media on 4K TVs? Possible but that would make every 2013, 2015 and 2016 PS4 Slim unable to support UHD media coming with ATSC 3 if you believe only the PS4 Pro is UHD capable

I guess you haven't read the three articles speculating that Sony would enable support for UHD blu-ray on the PS4 Pro sometime in the near future despite House saying that the PS4 does not have a UHD drive.

is this also wrong/crazy for 1080P and/or 4k:

The current PS4 media/DLNA Player has no DRM support and is a temporary player waiting on HTML 5 <video> MSE EME which was waiting on HDCP 2.2 which is now in the PS4 since it supports HDCP 2.2 for HDMI 2.0a. This means that all features waiting on this can be implemented any time now, they are:

Background Firmware updates without using the APU.
HDMI 2.0a
Vidipath
Playready (Vidipath requires Playready and Playready protected DTCP-IP for DLNA )
Miracast
HTML5 <video> MSE EME (The DRM parts)
IPTV Apps
ooVoo or some video chat (by default video chat is encrypted)

All the APPs will be rewritten to use the media TEE which requires Codec, Player, encryption routines and HDR take place in that TEE. The same routines will be used by all IPTV apps. Apps will be "Mono commercial apps" in the PS4 as Sony has a Mono Just In Time (JIT) compiler built into the PS4 OS and in OS core dumps is called Mono Commercial APP support. Mono will call APIs for the Media TEE and Browser native libraries. APPs will dramatically shrink in size.

I mentioned in later threads that HDR support for media is required to take place in the media TEE and is a very low bandwidth addition to Standard Dynamic Range in that TEE. Games have to add HDR to the video in the GPU which takes a small amount of additional processing. And yes HDR for games does not require HDCP 2.2 but it does require the HDMI 2.0a negotiation. I'm guessing Sony chose to not support HDR till they implemented HDMI 2.0a and HDCP 2.2.

So PS4 firmware 4 implements HDCP 2.2 which requires TMP 2.0 standards for the cryptography accelerators and keys in the Media TEE.
That's a bit of a jump.

So if I'm following this correctly, PS4 Pro can play 4K movie discs *if* they patch it? But, there's no confirmation this is officially happening despite the thread title?

Here's why, my other forum I'm on religiously is the AVS forums, and a lot of what he is saying has been confirmed by people in the know that have tore apart the ps4 chip by chip. To the people just blantly calling Jeff a lier is shit tier because these other people also in the know, can't honstly figure out why Sony hasn't initiated uhd, and even more importantly, coming out with the pro, and saying no to 4k discs, yet the specs prove it is very possible.

Simple, they patch it in if Xbox One S sales get uncomfortably high, or if their UHD Bluray player lineup fails to sell well. In a weird Sony way, it makes sense.

That's a bit of a jump.
A small one considering the timing. Microsoft did a Windows 10 update August 2 to support TMP 2.0 which is needed for HDCP 2.2 which is then used for Miracast, Vidipath, HDMI 2 etc.

Sony's support for HDR is coming in games at nearly the same time AMD GPUs will support HDR....early next year. The AMD GPUs that support HDR are the AMD GPUs that support UHD with a HDMI 2.0a port. Sony want's game developers to support HDR and those game developers will do this because they can port the game to PCs and support HDR.

Here&#8217;s Why PS4K&#8217;s Ace Will Be HDR Support, More Than Any Resolution Boost which links to this article: AMD Bringing Better Pixels to PC, HDR and Larger Color Space to Consumers
.

Microsoft to implement HDR support in DirectX 12 in Windows 10 and Xbox One

Microsoft is going to be prioritizing HDR (High Dynamic Range) on all of their devices as developers start embracing DirectX 12. The second part of the session was heavily focused on HDR (High Dynamic Range). Microsoft seems to be fully on board with this technology and it predicts that it will spread faster than 4K, because the difference is more clearly noticeable for customers. Both of these will be available to developers at some point in 2016, with a projected availability for the public in 2017.

Multi GPU support also includes APU GPU plus dGPU working together.
