Original Metal Gear Solid concept trailer

This is pretty rare, so I think some MG fans would like it.

As you can see its very different from how the final game turned out (and not just from a graphics standpoint). The game came a long way from this.

The making of movie is pretty interesting too, it shows off how they used legos to craft Shadow Moses.

The Kojima interview video shows off one of the very first trailers for MGS (the real game).

Wow... it obviously looks radically different compared to the actual, finished game... speaking of Metal Gear Solid before it was finished, I have an old copy of EGM that has a minor preview on it and I believe it shows the game in a 3rd-person, "behind the shoulders" perspective. It really looks different when compared to the final game.

I see the cyborg ninja part, and I'm just reminded of when EGM had a preview section.

Fuck EGM. Why did you get rid of the preview section? EGM was the last gaming mag I bothered to read, and the focus on redesigns killed the interest I had in it.

I had never seen the first concept video, thanks for the link.

The KCEJ tour video that also includes the lego stuff was included on the demo disc that had the first Metal Gear Solid playable demo. It was Wave magazine, or something. I remember paying $20 to import that, and had to use the disc swap method to play it on my old PSX. :lol

I still remember that these were the first pics of MGS various magazines showed during 1997-1998.
thx.

Part of the CG scenes were in the orignal MGS trailer which can be found in Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions. Also, an early image of Metal Gear Rex can be found once you complete all the missions on the VR disc. Slightly awesome, nonetheless.

I actually didn't know about MGS or Metal Gear at all before I read a E3 report in OPSm UK back in 1998. I actually think I just had started to use the net at that time or the year before(reading about FF8 until my eyes bleed). My first online game was CS in the autumn of 99 I think with BG2 to follow.
I also remember being a member of the Gamesradar forum. :D

the ending of the concept trailer reminded me of the ending of the MGS4 trailer.
So similar.

It's similar to the original MGS2 and MGS3 trailers. Both have a scene near the end where the camera locks onto Snake while he fires a machine gun.

I remember the LEGO shots from a magazine :]]]

I remember seeing it in a GamePro when they got a tour of Kojima's offices. They also showed a model they built of Rex which looks really nice.

Interesting it looks like at first they were going to keep the camera at the same level as the old 2D games, or let you pan it out/up to almost that level... glad they did that would have been... disconcerting.

I meant the letters that were flashing by, the one after the other. Becos there was no such scene (Snake shooting) in the MGS4 trailer.
(The letters/words----->c-o-m-i-n-g s-o-o-n <> M-G-S-4)

thank God they didnt went on with that build. It looks extremely outdated and just like your average action game. I think the actual MGS game is timeless and the whole layout and menu's/HUDs are flawless and certainly fits the game's atmosphere just perfect.

I have a video of MGS3 concept where they were still using the SOL engine while in the forest area. If anyone wants to see it.

The graphics make it seem like they had N64 development in mind like FF7.

Well expect that it featured Playstation icons, this is actually just the original CG rendered concept of MGS1. I still have an old Next Gen magazine that featured pics that where from the pre-rendered sequences like the Ninja and Ocelot.

Wow, thanks!

I actually kind of like the codec screen better in the above picture, it always kind of bugged me seeing both parties faces on a "screen" because there wasn't anything there to record video AFAIK. MGS3 seems to have gone back to the concept shown in the above picture, in a way.

Thanks for the updated link SSX, It's great seeing how much this game has evolved over the years. I also enjoyed how they used the camera and the lego kit to figure out the in-game camera. Really impressive.

I can't believe all this was more than 8 years ago-- I still remember coming home from school and playing the MGS demo for the first time. /nostalgia

I was actually googling for these vids and this topic showed up...Anyone have a new link or want to host them again?
