Back to Adelpha: Outcast – Second Contact reveals its first images!

Bigben and Appeal Studio have unveiled the very first screenshots of Outcast - Second Contact, the remake of the cult PC game Outcast, a pioneer in the history of open-world video games. This expanded version in full HD of the 1999 adventure game, highly anticipated by fans of the genre, will be available in March 2017 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

A fantastic and futuristic adventure, Outcast uses cutting-edge graphics and reworked controls for optimum immersion. As Cutter Slade, players can dive into the extraordinary landscapes of planet Adelpha in an attempt to pierce its secrets in order to prevent a terrible catastrophe... and along the way will uncover many things that will even surprise fans of the original.

Outcast takes place in the near future when Humanity has just discovered the existence of a parallel world, Adelpha. The American government, which was behind the discovery, sends a probe there to investigate. The experiment is a success but a native of Adelpha, a Talan, attacks the probe and causes a distortion of space-time that threatens to destroy the Earth.

You are Cutter Slade, a former Special Forces operative, assigned to escort a group of scientists sent to locate and repair the probe. Nothing goes as planned, however, and you find yourself embarked on an adventure on an unknown planet, with the future of two worlds in your hands.

Outcast has been hailed by critics and received numerous awards for the quality of its graphics and innovative gameplay, and is a milestone in the history of video games. The franchise will celebrate its return in March 2017 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Outcast – Second Contact will be presented for the very first time by the studio Appeal, during Gamescom 2016 in Cologne, from August 17th to 19th.

Holy balls!

Cutter looking a bit too Nathan Drake now though with the addition of hair.

It can't really be coming out as early as March can it?

I was too young to get into Outcast when it originally came out, but always looked interesting to me when it came to world designs. Maybe I give it new try when remake lands.

What happened to Fresh3D? I could swear they stated they owned the IP in their failed Kickstarter a year or two ago.

Anyway, loved this game to death when it first released so I am happy to see it return.

March 2017 doesn't seem that far. I wonder how significant of a remake it'll be, and have they said what engine they're using? I've started up Outcast 1.1 several times but I haven't had the drive to replay it further. It's great that this is being made, though I don't have big expectations.

WHAT? IMPOSSIBLE!
I thought developers forgot about this game. I didn't play much of the original, but I do have it on GOG and read about it in magazines.
I will have to play it again but I'm so going to get this one.

AWSOME, major childhood nostalgia kicking in. Outcast was so ahead of its time, amazing stuff. Though I'm bummed they didn't keep Cutter Slade's appearance intact, this spiky hair, teenager shit looks off.

Every time I see a thread for Outlast I first think it is for Outcast... and today it was.

Immediately saw Drake in that first screen, as others are saying.

I hope they get Lennie Moore back for a re-arranged soundtrack or something. Original OST was GOAT.

YES! I'm going to see this at Gamescom as well. Cannot wait.

One of my all-time favorite PC games. Absolutely mind blowing back in the day.

Wow, that's awesome to hear about it again. I bought the game on Steam when it released and played it through (actually holds up fairly well in my opinion) but was pretty unsure if they could do anything (considering the game obviously didn't sell very much either).

Awesome. And yeah, one of my favorite games ever.

I need this in my life. Right. Now!

I'm a little disappointed that it's a remake rather than a sequel, but maybe we can still get one later if this is successful. Let's do it!

I'd wondered what their plans were, after the Kickstarter didn't go through. And March 2017? Incredible. I'll pay whatever they ask for even a chance that this captures the feeling of the original.

I remember buying and playing /after having to download a patch to be able to even install) the original when it came out and kinda sorta enjoyed it a little.

I gotta admit though that the main character in the new pics does look quite goofy and cheesy. It's like his clothes are from a cheesy over the top colorful 60's sci-fi movie and his expression and stubble are from a modern serious generic main character.
It just doesn't blend well.

Still, I hope the game turns out good of course!

As long as they include a CA off switch we're good, judging by the screens.

Started playing through the 1.1 version of the original recently and cleared most of Talanzaar. Gameplay is stilted by today's standards but the game still holds up overall IMO.

Well damn! Just a few days ago I remembered the failed Kickstarter and the 1.1 Update.

Awesome to see Outcast is still rocking 17+ years later.

No voxels no buy!

One important thing to note is that the game didn't use Voxels as we think of them today. The ground isn't volumetric, but instead is just a ray-cast surface determined by a heightmap texture.

This is why the game has smoothness not typically found in true voxel surfaces.
