Because it minimizes the time between "OH FUCK, THESE SKINS!" and people being able to buy the boxes for them.

If you announce the skins a week early, then people have time to calm down and be rational, which means less boxes being bought.

Oh hey, this is one of the guns that was in the dev diary that made people think that gun skins were coming to Overwatch.

The S76 gun had prongs on the end of it as well, so I'm assuming that it was a "barbecue" gun for his summer skin that they had in testing or put into the video as a tease.
