Pachter Prediction: Microsoft paid EA about $50m for TitanFall

I used to not like Pachter, now I find myself genuinely entertained with whatever he says. I still don't pay attention to his actual predictions though lol.

He's just guessing here.

He might not even be in the ballpark. I doubt he has actual legit/hard information on that number.

Sounds like a pretty good deal for MS. 50M is not even half a drop in the bucket for them with their warchest.

you know, even if they paid $50 million, it'd likely be a $50 million advance (or a break on $50 million in licensing fees) rather than a check

He was just guessing.

Which is one of his worst traits. I like the guy but I wish he wouldn't just constantly pull specific numbers out of thin air. It's annoying and leaves a bad impression.

Actually it gives me a bad impression of financial analyst in general. If this is what they get paid to do, just pull numbers out of air based on their previous knowledge--then I will never have use for an analyst. I like my information to be more solid and less guesstimated nonsense.

Did the GTA4 DLC really pay off for Microsoft? Just wondering.

There's no way to even calculate that ROI on that spend.

There's so many factors like;

- who bought a 360 and not a PS3 because of that (or any other competing console)
- how many incremental GTA copies they sold that would have not been sold on 360
- etc.

I'm surprised more of these deals don't go through because the post-analysis of these is impossible and nobody really ever gets held accountable.

Im not buying either of the next gen consoles, I dont have any allegiances but Titanfall looked absolutely underwhelming, I was shocked frankly. Both from a visual and gameplay perspective it was uninspired.

.Microsoft paid $50 million for just timed exclusive DLC from GTA IV. If true, Titanfall was not a bad deal at all and should help the console sell a few more units.

It's on PC as well though, so I'll be getting regardless...

So they paid enough to cover the entire development at the least while getting none of the profit sharing outside of licensing fees. Great use of money!

this isn't even a prediction, this is just "hey, let's wildly guess something and pull a number out of ass because we know the whole industry is incredibly opaque and will never release these kinds of figures." we never found out how much microsoft paid for the episodes of liberty city either

a prediction implies it'll either come true or not. 99% sure we'll never find out how much microsoft paid for this. what a ridiculous thing to say
