Okay, for real, I'm pretty sure WB is one of a dozen or so developers who have made better content than Bethesda this decade. Chuckle~

If MS didnt buy them, its because it wasnt worth it. You dont own any of the IPs other than Mortal kombat. Thats why they focused on Bethesda. They own those IPs now.

But this is right up sonys alley. Not actually owning the superhero but making it seem like they do. Sony fans are gonna love it.

lol I dunno why patcher said this, but it makes no sense. Do you really think Sony could outbid MS on this? Sony wasn't even in the running when they were up for sale recently. why would they be in the future. Also pretty sure warner would not want to license to Sony considering they already own the most popular marvel character license. This sounds like fanboy dreams from patcher

Pretty sure MS didn't switch focus and were in talks to purchase both at the same time. It wasn't that they decided to purchase Bethesda because Warner took themselves off the market.

Sony has roughly $4 billion cash-on-hand. thats not even enough to buy WB if they wanted to.
Guess again..

Maybe you were looking at Sony Financial Holdings, their banking subsidiary!?

I could not care less about the Suicide Squad game or the new "batman" game, but I am interested in the Harry Potter game and the SF IP Monolith are working on (God I hope it has good combat like FEAR). So as a mainly PC gamer, I hope this wont happen, since compared to MS, Sony's games dont really come to PC (I know...Horizon, still though).
Yeah, it would be a shame if such mass market ips were limited to only one console, i understand why it happens but it sucks for gamers

Spider Man was an exception as Sony payed for that game, but all superhero games except for Avengers on PS 😳

I mean its alright when its a new ip or a game that otherwise wouldn't get made without a publisher but such aggressive takeovers i can't support

Sony could easily go to Disney and say.... 'you're doing nothing with Wolverine or Doctor Doom or Silver Surfer' , we would like to adapt those into exclusive games and give you a %.

Personally I think ND could really add that misery very efficiently to a Logan game.

Just seems like a bad acquisition for Sony specifically, but a good acquisition for Xbox.

Sony needs to focus on Japanese companies like Square Enix, Konami and Capcom. Those are the acquisition that will hold the most weight to its player base and would help secure their hometurf in Japan from competition.

If they were selling Ms would outbid them for sure. Whatever it costs it would be a rounding error on MS’s financials vs a significant chunk of Sony’s cash.

So they own every developer for sale, including past, present and future deals? They own Insomniac too right? How does this work?

I thought this guy was full of BS? I mean in the other thread everyone was laughing it at him saying he's never right.

I guess if you throw enough stuff at the wall, something will stick, right?

You dont need the cash to buy another company...debt financing (money is cheap right now) and stock swaps can be used to facilitate a purchase. Also, didn't they say they had approx 9.5 billion on hand in May (as of March numbers) as well as committed bank lines of another 5.5 billion? They burned through 5 billion in 5 months? https://www.fool.com/earnings/call-...ration-sne-q4-2019-earnings-call-transcr.aspx

The amount of cash they have in the bank is ultimately irrelevant - if they want to make a deal they can find a way to do it. See Nvidia buying ARM for $40 billion.

That said - they shouldn't make that deal at the prices being floated. I thought that $7.5B for Bethesda was a stretch, but in the end, relatively reasonable. But WB for $4.5B or whatever they tried to sell at is really overvalued. It's probably why it didn't sell in the first place.

I wish Sony or MS would buy their back catalog and make a new F.E.A.R. game. Give it a reboot where every entry would deal with a different paranormal or interdimensional force, rather spoky ghost girl and clones.

Also give me my Condemned Criminal Origins you HACKS

You are right. Companies fund acquisitions with debt all the time.

They should just continue getting deals with Disney to get more Marvel games at this point.
They only got Spider man because of the movie license though. It's no coincidence that Sony let them use Spiderman in their movies around the same time that Sony get an exclusive spider man game. Anyone spewing the PR of they were allowed to choose whichever character they wanted has drunk too much kool aid.

4 Billion for Mortal Combat is stupid for Sony. 4 Billion for all WB iP gaming rights is even stupider for WB.

Sony is better off buying Capcom, Konami and Sega from Sammy. Thats probably less than Zenimax or WB. Konami and Sega probably would just be a iP buy. Sega just to get Sonic as a mascot and make movies with.

I honestly don't think itd go down well if Sony just bought up 75% of the third party industry in Japan like that

If they bought Sega, I would fold Sony's Japanese teams into Sega's Japanese teams in an effort to make better studios.

Sega is basically just Sonic. Sony would just be buying pre-sammy iP. Sammy can even keep Yakuza and its studio. Release it under Atlus games. Konami would also be a iP buy. They would live out their days as a casino company spitting out Football PES games. They arent 75% of the third party market.

I am so glad many in these threads do not have ANY business sense. Pachter himself seems to throw many elements at the wall often.

Buy-outs, acquisitions etc are a HUGE deal with years of litigation, this why the Zenimax -MS deal will not complete until 2021. This all takes time and was likely in discussion for a year or so before.

The entire "details" of the deal are the big part, who gets paid, IP ownership, Current contractual obligations, 3rd parties, TUPE etc etc. Up until these are signed nothing is known and why MS waited to announce until a hand-shake 'In-principal' deal was agreed.

Sony would know, any investors would have known. They are not going to Buy WB or any other company based on this news, all of a sudden, business does not pivot like that are year to year/ qtr to qtr budgeting.

According to some MS can just buy a company without regret at the drop of a hat. No matter how much you have, you cannot buy everything. Otherwise Apple/Amazon/ Google would own the world alongside MS.

Sony does not have the money MS does to blow, Sony has been wise in their purchases and this would be a bit excessive for them.
