Nintendo are showing no signs of over-exertion, as their fitness drive moves into a fourth consecutive week at the top of the All Formats Chart. Sales of ‘Wii Fit’ are only down 2% on last week – the lowest sales decline of any All Formats Top 10 game this week.

‘FIFA 09’ (-12%) shimmies up one place to No2, knocking Activision-Blizzard’s ‘Call of Duty: World at War’ down to No3 (-20%) – its lowest All Formats Chart position since its launch 13 weeks ago. Every game in the All Formats Top 10 loses sales and Nintendo’s ‘Mystery Case Files: Millionheir’ is the only Top 40 new release, debuting at No4, one place ahead of similar title ‘Professor Layton’ (-14%). Nintendo manage 5 games in the All Formats Top 10 with familiar favourites ‘Mario Kart Wii’ (-13%) and ‘Wii Play’ (-16%) both non-movers at No’s 6 and 7 respectively. This week last year the software market was up and there were 3 new games in the All Formats Top 10 and a new No1 with Capcom’s ‘Devil May Cry 4’. In 2009 the software market has not yet witnessed its first weekly sales increase, while Nintendo and Wii Fit’s dominance at the top in 2009 is in stark contrast to the 5 different games that were All Formats No1’s during the first six weeks of last year.

EA’s ‘Need for Speed: Undercover’ (-28%) may have dropped out of the Top 10, from No10 to No13, but the American publisher still has two Top 10 games despite a 37% drop in sales for ‘Skate 2’ – down from No5 to No8. Despite falling sales, Sega’s ‘Mario & Sonic’ (-5%) and Activision-Blizzard’s ‘Guitar Hero: World Tour’ (-18%) climb back into the Top 10, both up 3 places to No’s 9 and 10 respectively. A retailer price promotion on the Xbox 360 version of ‘Left 4 Dead’ (+32%) sees it climb 14 places to No15, while another EA title, ‘SimAnimals’ (+90%) enters the Top 40 for the first time at No22, in its second week of release.

So, guys what kind of holiday is it that is driving these wii software sales?

It's Half-Term next week, if they decide to have it after all the snow days that is. :lol

Nintendo's Walking Game is now pushed back to an unspecified date.

Basically this is now their Easter game, killing all DSi and Wii Sports Resort at Easter hope I guess.

And Wii Fit keeps on trucking...

I'm really liking to see Layton hanging in the top spots. Every puzzle has as answer, and the answer to the puzzle "Will the West get a sequel?" is "keep selling", go! Also, after all this time I'm still amazed by Wii Fit's performance...it's not a cheap game.

Special PlayStation 2 offer. I think you can get the console + GTA: SA + SingStar ABBA for $80(?). The PlayStation 3 in comparison costs $500 (without any games).

Could it be that they'll use Walk with Me as a DSi launch title? (maybe in combination with Rhythm Paradise or Pokemon Platinum) because I don't think they have any other significant releases to coincide with the launch.

The No New Games on PS360 Holiday.

Whenever publishers take a holiday from releasing new games on PS360, Wii gets a boost in the charts (NOT a boost in sales) because its games typically have much longer legs.

This was shown so well when Wii had so high on the weighted chart last year following the near releases of Mario Kart and Wii Fit (which continued to sell well forever), and ended the very week new games started to come out on competing platforms (though one happened to be a PC game actually - Spore).

Wii will fall in the charts when some bigger PS360 games start to come through again, like RE5, though I'm not really knowledgeable of what games those two platforms have coming up soon. But when Wii falls on the charts, it normally means an increase in software sales on other platforms as opposed to a decrease in software sales on Wii.

Could it be that they'll use Walk with Me as a DSi launch title? (maybe in combination with Rhythm Paradise or Pokemon Platinum) because I don't think they have any other significant releases to coincide with the launch.

that sounds like a very sensible idea, too sensible for NOE though

But when Wii falls on the charts, it normally means an increase in software sales on other platforms as opposed to a decrease in software sales on Wii.

so, i'm not quite sure if you are agreeing with me or arguing about something else entirely. of course new games will be higher on the charts.

O wow this is still going on? It's getting a bit tiresome now. People just keep spouting out opinions as if they are facts without proof and some how think that is any better then what i was saying. Now the thing is Parl what you have described is a part of what does happen but it is a fact that kids being on school holidays does influence sales. I've proved this in a previous thread but you failed to reply. For the record you posted this chart which is from nintendo themselves:
mwp5jt.gif

When the above chart came out people did some pixel counting and worked out the sales numbers each week to the nearest thousand and here are the results:
2evsv35.jpg

From the first school school term of the year (weeks 2-6) average hardware sales were 87,800 per week, the average over the following school holiday (weeks 7-8) was 102,000.

During the weeks 9-23 there were 7 weeks of school holidays and 8 weeks of non school holidays. The average weekly sales of non holiday weeks was 105,000 whilst the school holiday average was 130,100.

Then finally from weeks 24-42 (i would go further but that's where the charts data ends) there were 6-8 weeks of school holidays and 11 weeks on non holidays. Average non holiday sales were 114,800 whilst average holiday sales were 120,100.

In every case the school holiday average is higher than the non school holiday average of weekly sales, and the reason why the summer holiday average is even remotely close to the non summer holiday average is that before the holiday started wii fit and mario kart wii finally came back into stock which increased sales over what they normally would have been and after the summer holidays from the end of september onwards computer game sales naturally go up the closer you get to christmas anyway.

So in a nutshell i have proved what i have been saying is true but yet still every few weeks people keep coming out with sarcastic comments whilst being in denial that what i have proved is even true in the slightest.

I thought your assertion was that the holidays were helping the Wii disproportionately more than the other consoles.

That is what i am saying.

You certainly showed that Wii got a boost from holidays, but (at least from that chart) it looks like PS3 and 360 did too. What are the percentage differences for holiday vs. non-holiday for them? If they're significantly lower than the Wii's increase, then I'd probably agree with you.

From the same periods of time we have:
(weeks 2-8)
wii non school holiday average 87,800 - school holiday average 102,000 = +16.2%

360 non school holiday average 27,200 - school holiday average 19,000 = -30.5%

ps3 non school holiday average 50,000 - school holiday average 44,000 = -12.0%

(weeks 9-23)
wii non school holiday average 105,000 - school holiday average 130,100 = +23.9%

360 non school holiday average 44,400 - school holiday average 36,100 = -18.7%

ps3 non school holiday average 60,900 - school holiday average 53,400 = -12.3%

(weeks24-42)
wii non school holiday average 114,800 - school holiday average 120,100 = +4.6%

360 non school holiday average 43,400 - school holiday average 30,900 = -28.8%

ps3 non school holiday average 51,200 - school holiday average 40,800 = -20.3%

So as you can see the wii gets a significant boost.

Thanks. And I have to say, that is fairly convincing.
