Capcom’s ‘Street Fighter IV’ knocks ‘Wii Fit’ down to No2 in the All Formats Chart, becoming the fastest selling traditional beat ‘em up since the All Formats Chart began back in 1997.

53% of sales were on PS3 and 47% on Xbox 360, making it the biggest selling All Formats No1 of the year so far. February seems to be a good month for Capcom who have now had an All Formats No1 in February for the past 3 years (‘Devil May Cry 4’ in 2008 and ‘Lost Planet’ in 2007) and it can only get better for the cult Japanese publisher who will be celebrating 30 years in May, as they are due to release the highly anticipated ‘Resident Evil 5’ on March 13th. Sales of ‘Wii Fit’ are up 20%, keeping it ahead of the next highest new entry, THQ’s ‘Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II’ on PC which debuts at No3. Publisher D3P enters uncharted territory as ‘Ben 10: Alien Force’ becomes their first ever title to enter the All Formats Top 10, up from No13 to No4, ahead of ‘FIFA 09’, a non-mover at No5 and ‘Call of Duty: World of War’, down from No4 to No6. A new entry for Sega at No7 with ‘Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection’ means that unusually all Top 7 games are now from different publishers.

Nintendo however are still a force to be reckoned with in the All Formats Top 10 with ‘Mario Kart Wii’ down from No6 to No8 and ‘Wii Play’ down from No7 to No9. After debuting at No2 last week, ‘F.E.A.R 2: Project Origin’ suffers in the face of strong competition from Xbox 360 and PS3 newcomers, down to No10. Another one of those newcomers is ‘Race Pro’ from Atari on Xbox 360, new at No13, one place behind a strong 2nd week from ‘Disney’s Bolt’, up from No40 to No12. Sales of Sega’s ‘House of the Dead: Overkill’ are up 30%, but with 4 new entries ahead of it in the All Formats Chart it remains at No15. ‘50 Cent: Blood on the Sand’ is the 5th and final All Formats Top 40 new entry. Dropped by Activision-Blizzard after its merger with Vivendi, the THQ published game debuts at No22, while the previous 50 Cent title (Bulletproof) debuted at No5.

I havent been follwoing these charts lately, is it normal for two PS3 games to beat their 360 counterparts in the UK on opening week?

No. They both rely heavily on the d-pad so hardcore gamers are opting for the PS3 version. At least that's what I think.

From looking at the jump that the 360 version of GTA:IV has made i'd say that most of them were playing Lost and the Dammed.

I am almost ashamed to ask this since I live in the UK (in my defence I have been really busy the past few weeks) but has the advertising for SFIV been PS3 only or something?

Go street fighter! And GTA IV sales did rise, guess the DLC was the reason behind that one. Go GTA IV. And Go LBP, stop dropping.

In other unexpected news, looks like Deadly Creatures didn't disappear from the charts right off, but actually went UP 6 places (31 -> 25) in the Wii specific chart. Still far from a smashing success, but eh, if it can keep a steady rate, maybe it will be able to follow in De Blob's footsteps.

Nope...

I guess 360 owners are spreading out their love and cash.

Weren't there reports the game was severely undershipped/underordered by retailers? The fact it moved up may mean that stock is increasing and word of mouth remains strong

Shocked to see Ben 10 up there as well, did it drop in price?

Would read again.

Thank you :)

No really though, I didn't think that it would raise sales of the game because of how readily available it is used. Looks like I was incorrect.

This is what makes it appearance astonishing. There are a boatload of used copies out there, and yet it still manages to make a dent on the charts with new sales.

Welcome beautful toddler, Madison Elizabeth, to the horde!
I bought SF4 for the PS3 as I do all fighters. I have a better arcade stick but Microsoft can blame themselves for the shitty d-pad on an otherwise flawless controller.

Quite a few Europeans are getting their games from the UK these days because they're much cheaper there - on the continent PS3 is still relatively strong so those exports might push the numbers in PS3's favor as well.

Sweet. Glad to see this doing so well. Now, release the expansion pack already dammit.

Good god, SE can't catch a break in UK, here's hoping the Eidos deal gives them some more knowledge about this particular market because they seem pretty lost.

DQV not in the DS top40
Disgaea 3 in the last position of PS3 top30

Btw, Eternal Sonata did last week just like D3 this one, #30 on the PS3-only top30. Its gone now.

Capcom must be cursing the crappy dpad on the 360 I mean how many lost sales must there have been?
Not many I bet. This is most likely an issue for a limited circle of gamers of whom the most have the option of buying the PS3 version or the arcade stick. Everyone else probably doesn't even realise how crappy it really is or just plays with the analog stick anyway.

People with both prefer the PS3 controller for 2D games?

I think the main reason for difference in sales placement for SF IV has to do with more on the plate of the X360 owner this week than the PS3 owner. Personally, having Death Tank, SF IV (and new fighting pads), as well as GTA TLaD release in the same week was kind of annoying. PS3 having more (and less expensive as well as better available control options) options for playing SF IV helps a lot, too. Personally, I don't care for the stock pads on either system when it comes to 2D fighters. Good to see SF IV do well, as I think it deserves it for taking the series closer to what made it popular to begin with (simpler, less esoteric mid-skill level of control and design as well more widely appealing characters).
