The latest instalment in the highly rated ‘Total War’ series is the fastest selling, recording almost twice as much in its launch week as either top seller ‘Rome: Total War’ or ‘Medieval II: Total War’ and is the only one to reach No1 in the All Formats Chart. Sales of Sony’s ‘Killzone 2’ are down 58%, dropping to only 1,600 units behind Sega’s chart topper. Nintendo are also not far behind as ‘Wii Fit’ enjoys a 31% surge in sales, pushing it up one place to No3. Ubisoft has to settle for No4 with ‘Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X’ debuting at No2 in the PS3 and Xbox 360 charts behind ‘Killzone 2’ and ‘Halo Wars’. ‘Halo Wars’ slips 3 places to No5 (-54%), while ‘Professor Layton’ continues to sell well despite dropping one place to No6 (+12%). Previous holders of the All Formats No1 occupy the next three spots as Capcom’s ‘Street Fighter IV’ (-59%) slides from No3 to No7, ‘FIFA 09’ (-7%) is down one place to No8 and ‘Call of Duty: World at War’ (-7%) also drops one place to No9. The All Formats Top 10 is rounded off by D3P’s ‘Ben 10: Alien Force’ with the only other Top 40 new entry ‘Mario Power Tennis’, released on Wii with ‘new play control’ (play classic Gamecube games with the Wii remote / nunchuck), appearing at No23.

Great start for ETW. Hope it stays like that for a while. Great to see LBP and HW doing well and damn
did Street Fighter 4 drop hard. PS3 version seems to be outselleing 360 version by a small margin though.
Ah well, good scores all around.

Been budget for week's - I think the Fart commercial helped :D

I don't live in EU, but someone said it was like 12 pounds this week or something, was it ever that low? Lowest I remember was like 20 pounds.

Anyway, good sales for the game :D

I was hoping Overkill would stay above 20 for at least another week or two. Shame. Looks like its legs are falling out from beneath it.

I wonder what the US sales will be like. On that note, why the fuck does Overkill have no Japan release date? I figured they'd eat up a zombie game and new entry in the House of the Dead franchise.

i really dont understand that, i thought 2&3 sold pretty well in japan, then again this is sega we're talking about

The only reason I can think of is that they need to re-work the game for Japan's iffy ratings system, since Overkill is pretty damn gory (headshots might be removed).

Otherwise I don't see why not. I don't know a lot about the Japanese gaming market, but I've been under the impression something along the lines of Overkill with its content and brand name would sell more than well enough to profit.

there's something wrong with k2 in france. it's week 9 (the week the game was released) and killzone 2 in the last spot is marked as a number 3 position in the previous week (when it wasn't released). there must be an error.

ah yeah i forgot the japanesse ratings board was a bit squeemish, yeah overkill is a lot more gory than 2&3 so maybe sega just cant be arsed with the effort and are content with raking in the monies overseas

Sega snatch No1 from Sony’s ‘Killzone 2’ as ‘Empire: Total War’ becomes the first PC exclusive All Formats No1 since ‘Football Manager 2008’ (also published by Sega) back in October 2007.

Overkill started out higher in the charts and has not hit budget price yet, its legs are fine given its starting position and the onslaught of new releases.

It is still in the Top 5 of Wii games (falling down 2 because of resurgent Mario and Sonic Olympics and My Fitness Coach)

Also don't look for the US sales to be anything amazing at first, HoTD 2/3 Returns and Ghost Squad were slow burners (as most Wii games are), even REUC was a slow burn in the US

Kllzone defeats Wii fit again on its second week

KZ2 down 58% and Wii Fit up 31%, yeah that a 2 week game barely managed to stay ahead of a 10 month game :lol

this is not like halo 2 or 3 at all
its like tom clancys end of war [ps3] and rubbish
not a first person shooter but instead you command your troops
just no good at all

tom clancy end of war sunk like a brick and this will do the same
the creators think this is the way forward but we dont want to be armchair generals, we want to be frontline fighters , looking down the sights of a gun
tom clancy and halo should addopt the old addage 'if it aint broke, don't fix it
i cancelled my copy today
just killzone 2 to look forward to [glad i got ps3 and xbox, but even so there aren't many shooter games out in the near future]
thank god for resistance fall of man [the first and still the best. sorry xbox guys]

The game seems to have had a slight price drop (£25 for the Collector's Edition and basic version) both online and in-store. My copy was despatched today so it'd be interesting to see how much of an effect this nationwide and presumably publisher decided discount has on the sales chart next week.

i've seen it hitting £25 a few places too, dont think it'll send it shooting up the charts but it should help it keep selling, however i can see it hitting silver (100k sales) either this month or next whereas 2&3 took about a year

if K2 dropped about 60%, and is only 1600 units behind #1, only 2 things is possible

1) K2 sold a bunch in its first week.

2) this week's #1 isn't that high.

3) This week's #1 is that high, and K2 is still only 1600 units behind #1 because it sold so much in Week 1 that the 60% drop didnt do much.

I wonder how Total War did in hard sales. Maybe 60-70k taking into account KZ2 is down 58% and 1600 less? I know KZ2 was behind GT5P opening week and someone said 108k for that although I thought it was closer to 121k with the bundles maybe iirc.

If you say week one of KZ2 was 115k with 58% drop that gives us 66.7k+1600=68.3k for TW. Rough estimate there if KZ2 hit 115k last week.

Pretty amazed that PC game managed to grab the #1 spot. Killzone 2 is doing pretty good for itself during its second week!

We could lock it down better if someone could confirm what GT5P did it`s first week.
