Bethesda’s ‘Prey’ snatches the No1 position for the All Formats Chart in its second week from Nintendo’s Switch ‘Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’ which drops to No3.

It is the first time since W25 2016 that Bethesda has hit No1 in the All Formats Chart with ‘Doom’. ‘GTA V’ climbs 1 place to No2, while Ubisoft’s ‘Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands’ re-enters the top 10 after briefly missing out last week, climbing from No11 to No8. ‘Fifa 17’ rises to No4, as ‘Rocket League’ moves up 1 place from No6 to complete the top 5. Activision Blizzard have 3 titles in the charts this week, with ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops III’ jumping to No20, ‘Overwatch’ at No12 and finally ‘Call of Duty: Infinite

I guess the week 2 wasn't too bad for Prey, with the reviews ? EDIT : Oh, -32% indeed is excellent.

Aaaand another week in the top 10 for Horizon ! ^___^

Can we talk about how Little Nightmares is STILL on the charts; this is a good sign on its performance right?

Prey is definitely gonna be a game reliant on WoM to succeed. Though given the number of people surprised it was even out, it might be people who'd intended to buy all along, not aware of its release, are picking it up.

Also while MK8D has slipped to third, I somehow feel more impressed by Breath of the Wild staying in the charts for the UK. The game is definitely continuing to sell with its system - not entirely surprising, but MK8D could have been the start of a total dropoff, and it hasn't been.

How is the Switch situation in UK? Do you have a chance to find some in stores or are they still sold out within hours after they come in?

I know it's sold out on amazon until May 25th, but I mean other (not online) stores.

I don't think there's anything positive about Prey sales even with the low 2nd week drop. First week sales were abysmal. Good it didn't completely collapse I guess.

It's been sitting on shelves everytime I've been to my 2 local Asdas, and Game, but as it is on sold out most placed online, I'd definitely say it's safe to call it a success.

Yeah, if it sold at least 17,000 last week, selling around 12,000 in its second week, following all the publicity of the reviews and games press, is not exactly a triumph.

Is this a troll post? Any market where Prey is #1 is the best market, as far as I'm concerned.

I mean, it's #1 with garbage-tier sales, which shows what the market is like. I think it might be the worst selling #1 of the year so far?

Frankly, I don't care if it's garbage in terms of sales.

Prey being number 1 this week is a good thing as far as I'm concerned

UK is a disaster these days. Most boring market to follow.

A 'disaster for retail', yet it's impossible to gauge the wider market without digital sales date being factored in too. And I don't just mean digital sales data for retail titles, but for digital-only titles too.

I remember that thread where as a one-off they factored digital in with physical sales and Ori was in the top 10. And that was two years ago, digital will be an even bigger deal now.

Garbage sales can mean bad things for the IP (no sequels, spinoffs, spiritual successors, etc.), the developer (layoffs, maybe even closure) and the genre as a whole (publishers/developers being less likely to fund immersive sims).

I'm curious about your logic.

Hmmm I wonder how low Fifa switch will drop this number this year.
We have no reason to believe that the FIFA port of Switch will be on feature parity with the X1 and PS4, especially with all that talk from EA that the Switch has a custom version and that they see the Switch audience as different from the rest.
Some people may double dip but I don't see it having much difference on the PS4 and X1 sales.

I don't understand this. Ranking number 1 is completely meaningless. All that matters is the sales numbers in the end.

This is true now WW more and more. The retail market continues to shrink and digital just keeps on growing. As time goes on sales numbers that don't include digital become more meaningless.

Hmmm I wonder how low Fifa switch will drop this number this year.

If it does drop it won't be because of the switch version.

Sure, if you are giddy about Prey failing in terms of sales.

We can go like this all day, but all I care right now is the positive WoM Prey is getting in the coming weeks.

I really really really do not want Prey to fail, quite the opposite. But realistically, unless the sales percentage increases by a significant amount, it's a failure regardless of what number is to the left of it.

Positive WoM will mean jack shit unless it can do something about how bad it has sold so far in the UK.

Good word of mouth and positive reviews emerging, like the recent one from Easy Allies, could give it some legs. And it seems to be doing quite well in the digital space, at least on Steam.

That and the UK is not the world.

Stating the reality of Prey's sales =/= being giddy about them, but we get it, you are in denial and clutching at straws.

Maybe. Or maybe I take Prey as number 1 this week as a relief, as small as it may be.

Back on topic, really good to see HZD still in the top 10. Still in its long legs.

That is a straight up fantastic 2nd week hold for Prey. Yes total units will still be very low but that's still a positive sign to see such a small drop off. It likely shows word of mouth is positive on the game and hopefully it will continue to see smaller drops / good legs.

It has a long way to go before it can be seen as any sort of success, sure, but that's a nice early sign things may head in a good direction for it

Dear Mr Shareholder. We sold a pathetic amount of copies this week that didn't meet expectations but on the bright side we did come first for a week on one country.

What the hell is causing the GTA spikes?

Nice to see Prey at number 1 even if it's a very slow week. I really hope Arkane will keep making new games instead of being closed or moved to help with Scrolls 6 / Fallout 5.
