UK :

It’s a third week of ‘GTA IV’ at No1 and ‘Wii Fit’ at No2 with the record breaking Rockstar/Take 2 game retaining top spot in the All Formats Chart despite a 41% drop in sales, while Nintendo’s fitness game sheds 52% of sales.
In the All Formats Top 20 sales of ‘GTA IV’ and ‘Wii Fit’ fall by the greatest margin. This weeks highest climber is ‘Mario Kart Wii’ up from No9 to No3, renewed stock of the in-demand title giving Nintendo 3 games in the All Formats Top 5 - ‘Wii Play’ down from No3 to No5. In fact Nintendo formats dominate the All Formats Top 40 with 20 format exclusives, while 28 games from the Top 40 are selling best on Nintendo formats. Sega still have 2 games in the All Formats Top 10 as ‘Mario & Sonic’ holds on to No4 and ‘Iron Man: The Official Videogame’ drops from No5 to No7. Konami’s ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 2008’ gets budget versions this week, helping it up one place from No7 to No6.
There are first appearances in the All Formats Top 40 for three games released 2 weeks ago – Disney’s ‘High School Musical 2: Work This Out!’ on DS - the highest at No14, the EA/Steven Spielberg designed ‘Boom Blox’ on Wii at No21 and film tie-in on DS/Wii ‘Speed Racer’ from Warner Bros at No37. The only All Formats Top 40 new entry this week is ‘Top Trumps: Doctor Who’ from Eidos at No22.

Very impressive sales all around. Are Wii Fit / GTAIV still out of stock?
Wii Fit is still short of supply, Game, Gamestation, Argos etc all show out of stock in my area, GTA 4 is generally now in stock for both 360 and PS3 however.

One thing that has worried me recently is the fact that Sonic and the secret rings is outselling Mario Galaxy by quite a margin, please say "forced bundles" and not "dim shoppers", please!

Edit: oh, 28/40 in the UK individual format chart are for Nintendo consoles, and 7 of those are top 10, we're making Japan look like Sonyland in comparison.

Didn't GTA4 drop 70% last week? How can it keep selling when it has dropped more than 100%?!
Er, that's week by week, not overall, silly. I.e 100 less 70% = 30, 30 less 40% is 18.

This guy needs a tag.

Wow, it feels good for two pure bread gaming companies of old (Nintendo and Sega) to be dominating the UK charts again.

So much for the multimedia revolution.

week 1: *sales*
week 2: sales have 70% drop compared to last week...(=week 1)
week 3: sales have 40% drop compared to last week...(=week 2)

If Wii Fit was actually in stock anywhere, I actually think it would have taken top spot these last 2 weeks. Well, at least this week, anyway.

WiiFit would struggle to beat 125k in a week in full stock.

If GTA 4 drops next week to say 75k it could beat that, but I think that Nintnedo might judge it as still being too early to release due to the USA Wii Board stocks (same size). I expect the 2nd massive wave of Wii fit (100k for the week) to come towards next weekend, whether it will beat out the MGS sales of that time period will be it's next battle.

As the charts suggest MK:Wii is pitifully low stocked still. That easily gets asked for in store as much as WiiFit does. Heck if they restocked both on the Monday before MGS launches it could be entering the chart at number 3!!

BoomBlox performs the casual Wii flip to enter on it's first full week - this bodes well for the titles appeal to non pre-ordering gamers.

The drops for GTA are about what I expected for a title of its size and demographic.

Wii Fit, however, is dropping unexpectedly quickly, in my opinion. It sounds like most people here agree that there are significant supply issues? Can anyone confirm that, or is that all just conjecture?

Wii Fit is hard to find on amazon.co.uk and selling on a 40 pound premium while the GTAs are easilly found and sold on a 10 pound discount. Mario Kart is sold out without any discounts pr premiums (I think).

For what it's worth.

I think Wii Fit will inevitably dominate GTAIV in sales on each singular platform. We all know how this works. "Hardcore" games are insanely frontloaded. "Casual" games keep chugging along, with little drop off.

Supply will even out, sales will climb steadily, and gaming will still be okay. I promise.

360 should be more prevalent in the UK chart. It really should.

I can only guess that the audience is buying games in packs based entirely on what their friends/family are buying. Halo 3 and Iron Man will be gone in a week or two, then what? GTA and CoD4 for the next few months? The audience isn't experimenting with their purchases like the Wii one is.

Better than I expected. Didn't it come out the week before? Did sales increase week over week?

It's because people are actually returning it to retailers so that it's counted as negative sales.
