UK :

The force is stronger than it has ever been before with the debut of ‘Star Wars: The Force Unleashed’ at No1 in the All Formats Chart, the biggest launch week ever for a Star Wars game.
Released across all major formats (PS2, PS3, PSP, XB360, Wii and DS), the LucasArts title storms to No1 in every chart except Nintendo Wii and DS (where it reached No3 and No39 respectively). 48% of sales were on Xbox 360 and 30% on PS3, making it the 10th fastest selling title ever for each format. The Wii version accounted for 15% of sales with the remainder on PS2, PSP and DS. ‘Star Wars: The Force Unleashed’ may be the biggest all-formats launch since GTA IV, but Nintendo content themselves this week with success on their own titles as renewed stock of ‘Wii Fit’ and ‘Mario Kart Wii’ push them both up 3 places to No’s 2 and 3 respectively.
They are the only All Formats Top 10 titles to increase in sales, while sales of last week’s No1 from EA, ‘Mercenaries 2’, plummet by 65%, dropping to No6 in the All Formats Chart. EA however are the only other company to register any new releases in the Top 40 this week thanks to 2 new PC games: MMORPG and Warcraft competitor ‘Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning’ entering at No4 and ‘Crysis Warhead’ at No21. EA may have gone from having all Top 3 games to none in the Top 3, but they still have a strong Top 10 presence with ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09’ down from No2 to No5 and ‘Spore’ falling from No3 to No10. Outside the Top 10, Activision-Blizzard are back on song with ‘Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock’ up from No27 to No12, helped by a retailer promotion on the Wii version, but ‘Guitar Hero: On Tour’ on DS falls out of the Top 10, down from No8 to No23.

Crysis Warhead didn't do as well. Not knocking Crysis but SURELY this is a sign that the people CRAVE more FPSRPG. There is a (frothing?) demand that needs to be met with more supply!

Damn. Are Holland and France video game twins or what? The Nintendo domination/love is sooo complete in those two countries. How come? Is Nintendo's marketing incredible in NL/FR or something?

Can't speak for NL, but in France Nintendo has always been successful. Even the gamecube did well.

The Wii is the first real succes for them, they always had a small loyal fanbase in the Netherlands and the NES and SNES did great but they weren't very succesfull with the N64 and GameCube. Only Mario Kart, Zelda and some other high profile releases sold well here after they lost the RPG support(some RPG's were translated into Dutch during the SNES era including Luffia 2).

I've never seen a Wii like gaming hype before. The PS2 was succesfull but the Wii is even more popular.

Je sais :D. Je me demandais surtout POURQUOI il en était ainsi. Note qu'à lire certains forums français, on croirait vraiment pas que Nintendo est populaire chez nous :lol.

Daar komt het wel op neer ja.

It's rather freaky too. Last gen nobody cared for Nintendo in Holland, the stores had no shelfspace whatsoever. And now, when you mention you have a Wii, people go all like "oh man, that's so cool. I want a Wii too". The marketing is non-excistent at the moment. There were quite a few comercials (including Kart, Brawl, Guitar Hero III and Pro Evolution) but that was several months ago.

I'm starting to wonder if there's something wrong with the Norway charts. Buzz Quiz TV has supposedly been in the top 3 since July it seems. There's a lot of Sony love in the country but still.

Interesting stuff this week. PC releases are doing fine, and the "next gen" versions of TFU, as expected, sell much better than the Wii version (I'm sure the MC talk will tell how much better). I actually thought the Wii version would chart much lower...

I wonder if TFU shows the same pattern as Tiger Woods (lower first week sales on Wii, but much better legs).

There has been (or maybe there still is) some commercial on TV in Norway for Buzz Quiz TV for the PS3. Maybe this commercial is the reason why the game is charting in the top 3? :) But there can be a mistake in the Top 20 list as you said.

From Charttrack.

<snip> beaten...
Wii is only accounting to 15% of the sales - while I didn't think it'd beat the 360 version I thought it could manage to get a bit more than that. It could have much longer legs but I'm sceptical about that.

Retailer promo helps GHIII Wii, what retailer was that? Must be pretty big I guess.

A lot of other movers as well, price collapse seemed to help Too Human jump some places, M&S makes a steep decline, guess Paralympics did help after all? :lol SSBB is also falling at a brisk rate.

Holy hell PSP. 7% of Star Wars between PS2, PSP and DS. PS2 is #17 so it must be taking a good amount of that 7%. In other words, PSP and DS Star Wars did like shit. But Star Wars is #1 on the PSP! Holy hell, on DS its just #39. UK is taking Reeves advice about torrent I suppose.

Not really surprising, PSP software has been selling like shit for a long, long time.

Dunno about the UK but here it was heavily advertised as well.

Well, I've seen a TV ad for it once, I think.

Can we skip the part where everyone goes on about third-party Wii games not selling and go directly to two months from now when the Wii version of SW:TFU has caught up to and surpassed the other two?

Do you mean that Paralymics didnt help? If so, Paralymics 2008 ended 17th September, so we were "missing" (or what i shall say) 3 days because this week's Top 40 UK charts go to 20th September, thats why Mario & Sonic declined this week ;) Hehe :p

Seriously though, wasnt there some promotion for Mario & Sonic last week? I guess thats why it jumped up in place last week. Maybe the promotion is still going though, so i dont know why Mario & Sonic fell relatively many places this week. Maybe shortage or less interest since already over 1 million have already bought Mario & Sonic? I dont know.

Damn....no wonder companies don't release games on PSP anymore.

No I was actually serious about it, remembering our conversation a few weeks ago :D .

That part hasn't started (yet?). For a game with a broad appeal I'd be inclined to agree but I think a game like TFU will make most of it's sales in the initial period, esp. when the game is mediocre through and through (judging by the demo, dunno about the Wii version, will give it a rent later on). It'll be a long way to make up for the headstart - we'll see with ELSPA awards I guess.

Ah ok, i am sorry for the missunderstanding. I first thought you ment that the Paralympics didnt help because of the decline this week, but maybe you ment since the Paralympics is now over, and that is the reason for the decline? :)

In afterthought i think that promotion was the main reason for the boost in sales for Mario & Sonic last week. You were right that there werent much coverage of the Paralymics (atleast after my experience), so i guess the Paralymics didnt do too much for the sale as i first though, but maybe it helped alittle atleast? :)

I had a feeling that the Wii version of TFU would come in at No. 1, but I guess that turned out to be wrong. However, now I'll go out on a limb and suggest that it'll have longer legs than the PS3/360 versions. I can see it being something that works its way into many Christmas stockings.

Mercs 2 fell pretty hard, I wonder how much of an impact the Morrison's £25 sale had on that game? From most people's accounts although it is a decent game, its not a £40 game. I wonder if people went into Morrison's to take advantage of that week long offer and just went for the newest title on the shelves. That or it just has a solid fanbase from the first title and is reaching beyond that.

Too Human.... definitely not worth £40, apparently £20 seems to be hitting a sweeter spot. Personally I'll wait to borrow it off a friend. :lol

Like madden, this will never happen for TFU, be serious.

Thought we might have seen a few more 360 titles charting considering the price cut a mass software bundling.

Game and gamestation both bundled a free copy of force unleashed, I guess that would have been the preferred option for people buying a 360 seeings as its the latest game out, might explain why the 360 version did so well.

Well, I don't intently believe that but the game is doing really well.

The PS2 Buzz-games were regularly charting for like a year, so... yeah. I would call it more a love for Buzz, than Sony though.

Next week wil be interesting, alot of DS and Wii-games being released.
It will also be interesting to see how Brothers in arms sell, usually multiplattform games in that genre sell the most on X360.

I'm expecting Family Trainer,De Blob, Samba De Amiga and Warioland to be massive bombs on Wii. Zero marketing for any of them from what I've seen.

I'm very surprised by the lack of push for Family Trainer and Samba as both could be massive with the casual market. I would have expected both to have massive TV advertising campaigns.

Depends, are they released in a UK holiday week?
