EA’s ‘FIFA 18’ takes a second week at No1 and actually has a stronger week 2 than last year because FIFA 17’s week 2 coincided with Take 2’s biggest new release of 2016, which pulled sales away from FIFA (‘Mafia III’ was new at No2 in week 40, 2016 and was the 8th biggest week 1 unit seller of 2016).

There are 5 new releases within the Top 40 this week, the first of which is Microsoft’s ‘Forza Motorsport 7’ for Xbox One debuting at No2. ‘Forza Motorsport 6’ also debuted at No2 two years ago back in week 38, 2015 and last year’s ‘Forza Horizon 3’ also debuted at No2 (week 39, 2016) and currently sits at No3 this week thanks to the popularity of the ‘Xbox One S FH3 Hotwheels’ hardware bundle. The second big new release of the week is Warner’s PS4/Xbox One ‘The Lego Ninjago Movie Videogame’ debuting at No7 and this franchise switches from hand-held console to home console release for the first time (the 3 previous Ninjago games have appeared on DS, 3DS and Vita) – this new Ninjago game arrives a week before the movie hits UK cinema screens. The third release of the week is Nintendo’s 3DS ‘Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minions’ debuting at No19. The fourth new release and debuting at No31 on 3DS is the 8th title within the Professor Layton series, entitled ‘Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy’. The final new release of the week within the Top 40 is Capcom’s ‘Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen HD’ for PS4/Xbox One, an update from 2013’s original release on PS3/360.

Layton's kids have the worst luck.

Alf never got a sequel to his game and Kat's game bombed right out of the gate.

Dragon's Dogma's chart position doesn't surprise me much, I stuggled to find a physical copy wherever I looked, and digital actually ended up being cheaper than a bunch of places - which is rare for the UK.

Germany will be very interesting for FIFA Switch. Assuming they ship enough units I think it could put up a fight against the Xbox One version.

True. Last week saw big issues with shipments there (apparently the shipment was held up at customs), but right now it seems fully available, so it should be able to sell to its full potential.

Switch release of Lego Ninjago Movie was delayed till October 20 for some reason.

Some things never change.

So after Project Cars 2 underwhelming debut, it looks like Forza Motorsport 7 launch is also behind Forza Motorsport 6 ? Of course in the meantime Forza Horizon 3 is selling Xbox One on itself but that's a different beast. The market for racing simulation does not look great at all, better have this in mind before GT Sport launch.

Not a chance. I was in Real this morning (German supermarket) and the displays had 3 copies of ps4/xbox one FIFA 18, the Switch area was full.

Also, over the weekend I was at GameStop (needed new PS Move wand) and it was a similar story. That's just Wolfsburg, mind You, but I can't see it being too different elsewhere.

You underestimate how many people have a console only for Fifa here, and they still have a ps3
Switch has the smallest install base anyway.

as long as the box one s is selling forza horizon 3 will be on the chart, microsoft should just bundle the xbox one x with fm 7

It just seems like Switch software seems to be doing quite well in Germany. Just as one example, it was already has a 200k seller there (Zelda). It took the Xbox One over three years to get one.

I really want to know the sales difference between Horizon 3 and Forza 7 this week.

Its great to see the Hotwheels bundle is doing well for Horizon though.

It took 3 years for FIFA to reach 200k in Germany?! That's quite an interesting fact imo (although, maybe I just overestimate the German market).

So the Switch version did not even sell 1,300 copies last week? Or would 0.5% not be rounded to 1%?

And in France switch software has sold even better with most top 5 placements in European charts.

Germany has been simply dominated by PS4 since this gen started. FIFA 17 has sold over 1.5 million on PS4 alone in Germany.

WTF is Horizon doing up there at 3?

Bundles, bundles everywhere.
‘Forza Horizon 3’ also debuted at No2 (week 39, 2016) and currently sits at No3 this week thanks to the popularity of the ‘Xbox One S FH3 Hotwheels’ hardware bundle
Forza Horizon 3 is bundled with Xbox One S at the moment, and the hardware combo is doing good business for Xbox - which is why the game is at No.3 more than a year since it came out.

Good debut for 7, 90k seems to be ceiling for it - not bad at all.

Germany cuts off their sales awards after a game has been out for a year. So, there may very well be additional 200k sellers. The only one right now is Forza Horizon 3. No FIFA has reached that point. They're all 100k sellers. The PS4 eats most of the pie there. 500k for 15 an 16 and 17 jumped up to 1.5m.

And in France switch software has sold even better with most top 5 placements in European charts.

I guess we'll find out soon. But it certainly could just be a case where the Xbox One simply as too big of a userbase right now for the Switch to even compete.

I feel so bad for people buying PS3 and 360 FIFA 18. It costs 50 quid and is literally only an update of kits and players. Total disgrace. (At least they actually say this on the box this time).

Bundles. Interesting choice to offer them right now and potentially hurt the sales of Forza 7 (the target audience for both games isn't entirely different).

Yeah, I've seen some very tempting deals last week/weekend for Forza Horizon 3 bundles with XB1S and lots of extras.

Definitly.

I wouldn't be so sure, what with the whole online focus only, happy to be proved wrong, but I can't see it.

Bad results, sadly.

Do you think GTSport will do better, guys? (regarding UK)

I'm not sure. It seems to be more popular withmainland Europe, however there is A discounted controller and game bundle that is quite popular in the UK. I honestly think it will beat 30k in launch week, but by how much I don't know.
