Oh yeahhhhh. The two big guns sitting pretty at 1 and 2. Very nice to see! WipEout and Rayman charting impressively high, too. :)

Good to see Vita games topping the charts. But the real test will be next week to see if anyone apart from 'hardcore' folk care that its out.

PS3 and 360 software is so fucked if Mass Effect 3 doesn't sell gangbusters out of the gate. Syndicate and Binary Domain cratered. Did Soul Calibur 5 actually release this week?

Vita launch looks healthy enough, and the good games gravitated to the top. Nice to see Rayman and Marvel get some love. Considering how absent handheld games were from the top 40 in 2011, this 3DS/Vita war should be a refreshing shakeup.

EA's quite strong in Europe when they actually care about their products, but I'm not holding out great hope for March's other titles like RE:ORC or even especially high hopes for SFxT.

Soul Calibur 5 came out like 3 weeks ago. It did bomb, though.

If we run into a scenario where safe sequels and all new ip bomb left and right on current consoles, fall 2013 may be too late to stem the bleeding. Both consoles badly need a price drop to spur growth.

Saw this in the retail musings thread, but thought it worth a mention here.

Patrick Garrett said:
Just been told Vita’s sales figures for the UK. Strong. I can’t publish them because they’re owned by Chart-track, but it’s good.

It’s comparable to 3DS. Be interesting to see what Sony announces, because the Chart-track figure and the figure Nintendo finally announced for 3DS was very different.

Not sure if anyone on here can corroborate.

The gap between Syndicate 360 and PS3 position wise is huge. Guess Vita is to blame for that, money was spent in other places for people invested in Sony.

Would be curious to see what the correlation is between PSV and PS3 ownership. Is there anyone who bought a PSV who doesn't have a PS3? I really think Sony should push the transfarring thing and allow cross platform play.

Yeah, but it honestly looks like we might end up in a situation where everything but the ultra top of the top games do badly.

I mean, FFXIII-2 did pretty okay, but it's the only thing to do so this far.

If Mass Effect is the only other one until Max Payne 3, that's really bad.

I can't imagine ME3 PS3 will do very well. ME2 didn't do great on PS3 and history shows that late PS3 ports lead to disappointing sales for the sequel (Dead Rising 2, Bioshock 2) on that platform.

Was Dead Rising 1 ever ported to the PS3?

I think that Bioshock 2 in general saw disappointing sales compared to Bioshock 1, no just the PS3 version.

So is it safe to assume the vita has sold less than 75k since wednesday?

DIdn't the 3DS do around 113K in its first weekend in teh UK?

The whole "dead week" situation is indicative of the impact the rise of used-games sales in the UK. People fob it off as a non-issue when they see big titles still shifting in large numbers, but tend not to consider the troughs that form between big releases.

Which if you think about it, is exactly where you'd expect to see used-sales bite most strongly as what do you look at when the new release shelves are lacking the next big thing... older games, and if you're buying an older game do you buy new at full whack or used at a substantial discount?

Why do you feel the 'impact' has waited this long to show itself? Used games have been around for literally decades and I don't think there's been much change in their desirability / availability in the last 3 years or so. Supermarkets are slowly beginning to dip their toes into used stuff but not enough to affect this chart, I'd wager.

Only numbers I can find are an estimate from Nintendo of >150k. http://www.vg247.com/2011/04/01/nintendo-3ds-uk-launch-sales-beat-wii-and-ds/

If Vita software combined is like ~80k (as per prev posts), it's not out of the realms of possibilities the Vita has done half of what the 3DS did.

It says 115k in that article :)

"Nintendo has confirmed that 3DS sold 303,000 units across Europe and 113,000 units in its opening weekend on sale in the UK, beating the British launches of both Wii and DS."

Hmm, then that would be about half of the PSP launch as well....the people who said smartphones will affect the Vita userbase size may be correct. Obviously first week sales aren't the be all and end all.

It's technically a minimum of 85K. Need to know the gap between FIFA Soccer (PSV) and UFC (360). E.g. every 1K increase in FIFA Soccer, amounts to a 5K increase in overall software.

And excludes digital sales obviously.

PSP's launch was ha-uge. And obviously not reflective of ultimate marketshare.

PSP: 185k
PS3: 165k
3DS: 113k
Wii: 105k
DS: 87k
360: 70k

Vita's probably on the lower end of the launch numbers here judging by software, but probably not extremely low. 70-100k seems 'normal' based on the above, PSP and PS3 were kind of outliers.

Not actually that important
Uncharted 3 has been at €29 (still is) on Amazon.it for two weeks now, hence the jump at #2 (Italy's charts).
Sad about the utterly terrible performance of RE:R in EU territories, it'll be interesting to see how the game does with NPD.

Holy cow at the discrepancy between Sindycate 360 and PS3, and wow@Vita's launch dominating the UK charts

I suspect its been apparent for quite some time, but like I said the amount of attention paid to the charts varies according to how much is going on generally in the market.

As for used sales being "around for decades", if you aren't going to acknowledge that its grown hugely in terms of size and visibility over the last few years -particularly at multiple retailers that contribute majorly to chart data- there's not much point in continuing to discuss the point, because we're never going to agree simply because of that difference in perception.

I consider the growth in the used-sector on the high street to be an undeniable fact.

Curious about UK attitudes towards digital distribution - would there be a (significant) proportion of hardware buyers that bought no physical software?
