Wait what? Hasn't it been getting rave reviews? I understand that Disney barrier and everything but word of mouth counts for a lot now.

I'm pretty sure it's rather well-known in Germany.

But this thread reminds me that I still haven't seen the film. Really weird what's apparently happening to it in the US.

UK here. It's one of my favourite books, I own it in English and French, and at a friends birthday party when I was young the parents put on a VHS of an animated version to entertain 30 kids, so it's somewhat well known here.

I hadn't seen any trailers for this, so assumed it wasn't up to much. EDIT: I now understand my confusion, my local conema was advertising the 1974 live-action version, and had posters for that up, and that's all I'd seen. (Not saying it's bad as I haven't seen it, just that the posters didn't look very 'The Little Prince' to me.)

Watched the trailer, and tears are streaming down my face.

I've heard of it and have just ordered the book.. A few weeks back I bulk bought some classics and added this to my Amazon wishlist, but I found it for £3.50 so screw it. I can only find one place selling the dvd in the UK though.. And I'm not paying £20

I had no idea who The Little Prince were either, from Scandinavia.

Now I want to watch the movie though.

Same, but I learnt about it on the internet. I liked the way people talk about it more than the actual book though, but I would love to see this movie.

My coworker laughed when I said I was going to watch Zootopia this weekend. He says he's a grown up and doesn't watch that stuff. I don't understand some people

None of my friends would go (Mostly male, early 20's) the "isn't that a kids movie? No thanks." responses. I ended up going with my mom and some family friends. Probably for the best anyway, they're way more interesting people to discuss films with. Just sucks it seems that "normal" people are so insecure they can't watch a well written animated film. It was great, I haven't enjoyed a film so much in a while.

Its a pity, becuase the book is marvelous in every sense of the way, and what I saw from the trailers looked good. One of the, if not the best, children books ever written.
Also, strange hearing so many people they dont know what it is when is one of the best selling children books ever.

Probably the best selling book behind the lord of the rings. It's a cool children's book. I watched an animated tv show based on it, as a kid. Had no idea a movie was being made.

If you take out of the list the fiction books who's total tally is impossible to count because of being translated to every language in existence and published and republished numerous times since the 1600, then yeah, sure.

Don Quixote is the first, as much as wikipedia wants to list only modern books because they can track sales

You need better coworkers. There's ample hype for it with my coworkers, they are pissed about having to wait until the end of the month.

It's coming out the same day as BVS here if I'm not mistaken. What a stupid decision by Disney. There's literally nothing worth watching right now apart from Deadpool and they still decided to wait until late March...

Wait it didn't come out yet? My friend had the movie and we watched it. I thought it was on blu-ray already.
It's a great movie would definitely watch again.

I'm legitimately stunned that there's people here that haven't heard of The Little Prince.

I'm on film fan websites literally every day (like Birth.Movies.Death) and also had never heard of The Little Prince until now.

It doesn't seem like it got much coverage at all, which is probably why Paramount felt comfortable dropping it, because they didn't even let anybody in America know about it to begin with.

No offence, but your post is quite funny considering The Little Price is a book first and foremost and that's what the poster you quoted meant.

I'm also very surprised that so many Europeans don't know it.

If you ever took French class you would've known about this book.

edit: somewhat related

So Paramount is finally following their dreams and becoming a movie studio which doesn't release movies?
Took them long enough.

On a more serious note, do they feel that Zootoopia will overshadow it that much in its third weekend? Then maybe they shouldn't have scheduled The Little Prince they way they did. Paramount is going to Paramount I guess.

Not offended! It's just not part of the American curriculum, it seems. Every country has its classic children's literature. Remember, we are the country without Tin Tin.

And while I knew the other poster was talking about the book, I was trying to imply that I hadn't even heard of it until now, when it was a canceled movie. Perhaps I was not clear.

Apparently a bluray rip of this has been available on pirating sites since november. Possible reason why they thought a theater release wasn't viable?

America don't care about The Little Prince. Like I never even knew about it until speaking to Europeans online.

I'm American and I read The Little Prince as a kid. Maybe I'm an outlier, though.

There are certain kids books that seem to stay in one place - I don't imagine The Phantom Tollbooth is as big elsewhere as it is in the US.

I'm quite surprised at the amount of people not knowing about The Little Prince, it's the best selling book after the Bible.

Seems to be running in pretty much every theater over here (Toronto, Canada). So this looks like it's a US only thing.

Somewhere!
Drop means released
Dumped means, well I'm not quite sure.

I'm the opposite. I interpreted it as dumped, but then remembered some people use "dropped" to mean released. I was still confused.

That aside, I wish I hadn't watched the trailer just now. This looks great.
