Paramount Pictures is developing a movie adaptation of “Clifford the Big Red Dog” — a live-action/CG hybrid.
Paramount has tapped Justin Malen to write the screenplay about of the 25-foot-tall dog. Scholastic Media’s Deborah Forte will produce the film, based on Scholastic’s book series by Norman Bridwell.

“Clifford the Big Red Dog” had been in development at Universal for several years with the studio announcing two years ago that it would be released in 2016. Paramount picked up the rights after the option lapsed.

I was a fan of the books and cartoon when I was little, but I'm skeptical given adaptations of these kind of things end up bad most of the time.

Not without Carmen San Diego and Ghost Writer! Gooey Gus is their fucking Thanos.

This means the soundtrack is in acapella, yes?

And the budget will have to be huge to cover wishbone's costume changes since they're going after Padme's record from phantom menace.

This is just the first step towards the Scholastic Cinematic Universe.

I personally can't wait for the eventual Animorphs reboot.

Dark and gritty reboot with gore and disabled child soldiers.

Remembering some of the shit that went down in Animorphs, those books got fucking dark especially near the end. I think they actually use child soldiers if I remember correctly. For a kids book series they didn't mess around.

I hope it's an origin story. Always wondered what sequence of events led to the creation of a giant monster dog who is actually friendly because reasons

At 110 million sold Clifford the big red dog is 26th on the list of best selling book series, just beneath Twilight, and just above James Bond. Its total sales may actually be beyond 186 million, though, putting it in the upper echelon (top 12), knocking on Dan Brown's door.

That's why a movie.

There already is one called Clifford Puppy Days they produced after Ritter died. Clifford was the runt of the the litter that grew really really big because Emily Elisabeth loved him a lot or something.

(Her parents probably put something in his food.)

If this pulls through I hope they address the ridiculousness of a little girl having a giant red dog around with her. There should be at least a couple scenes where she introduces Clifford to someone and the person freaks out or runs away,

Speaking of terrifying things, will he be anatomically correct?

I never watched the animated show and I only vaguely remember the books but yeah, I kinda hope and expect they're going to do a story where people are afraid of him and he accidentally causes a lot of destruction causing the town to turn on him, maybe authorities getting involved as she and the girl run away and relatively easy to track dog hunt. Or Clifford is actually an delusion of a dying girl with a brain tumor... Depressing...
