Party Not Quite Over Yet: Fire Emblem

The End

So I'm digging Path of Radiance pretty hard, and I'm going to track down the two GBA titles released here already as soon as I finish PoR. I may even drop the $50 for the first GBA FE (Fuuin no Tsurugi?). My question is this: does the story in the FE games carry over from title to title? Should I bother playing them in order?

Sometimes yes and sometimes no. Path of Radiance and The Sacred Stones are standalone titles. However, the first Fire Emblem title released in America is a prequel to the first GBA Fire Emblem released in Japan (Sword of Seals).

Glad you're loving Path of Radiance. The game deserves more love.

Ok, so I should play Fuuin no Tsurugi before Rekka no Ken?

If you can understand the entirely-in-Japanese story, sure. I don't think it'd hurt to play Rekka no Ken first either though, as its story can still stand on its own extremely well. But it was made as a prequel so if you can understand the story, then go for it, you'll probably appreciate the two stories even more by playing them in order.

Depends on what you define as "in order." In the game world's timeline, Rekka no Ken comes first; however, in the real world, Fuuin no Tsurugi was created and released first, so you might find it more enjoyable to play them in the order originally intended (Fuuin no Tsurugi, then Rekka no Ken).

Probably not worth your while if you can't read the text, though.

I just finished Path of Radiance today. Only complaint is that the battle animations on the GBA, for the most part, were far above the ones done on the GC.

I really enjoyed it a lot. I played one of the GBA games before it and loved it. Going to track down some of the other Fire Emblem games in the future. Has quickly become one of my favorite SRPG series.

I agree totally. =) I haven't finished PoR yet though but so far it's awesome.

I love what I've played of PoR, but I'm stuck at an early mission (the one where you start in the forest and then cross the river). I just can't beat for some reason. I think I'll resort to using a FAQ one of these days because from what I've played it's an excellent game.

This series needs to be shown for Revolution at E3!

:D :D :D
I second this notion!

Just bought my friend a copy of PoR yesterday. That's two copies I purchased...WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR THE CAUSE???

I'll never understand how anyone plays FE/Advance Wars/PoP DS or whatever with the animations on for more than the first hour or so. Makes the game soooo... slow......

I just wanna exert my domininance over the game :D

I ocassionally turn them back on for the boss fights. But the animations for some of the crits (i.e. Ike's) are pretty cool.

The animations are, on the whole, so freakin' satisfying, though. Particularly in the GBA games, but even the GCN one. And they're short!

I almost always play with the animations on. They don't make the game that much more slowly, and I find them awesome to look at. Especially the critical attacks and special attacks (like Ike's Aether Skill attack, which is just amazing to see).

Seeing the attacks play out just adds to the whole epic feel of the series for me.

I prefer the GBA animations because of the 2d sprites. PoR was great but god it was ugly, IS needs to make a hand drawn FE for the Rev.

Yeah I was looking forward to kickass GCN animations, but that was the only disappointing aspect of PoR in the grand scope of things.

That seems to be the popular consensus, but I couldn't disagree with it more. I absolutely loved the look and the style of the 3D characters and attack animations.

Of course, given the quality of Int Sys' artistry, a hand-drawn game would be mind-blowingly gorgeous.

Gamecube GOTY 2005 *

As for the game graphics, I agree with most here. The 3D battle animations are a disappointment. It's not that big a deal considering that I usually only turn on animations for the first few missions of the game and the last mission to see the end animations, but to go from the absolutely fantastic game art (best I have ever seen) and the excellent CG to that was a bit of a letdown. For the Rev version IS, PLEASE STICK TO YOUR STRENGTHS. 2D high rez sprite animations + redrawn graphics for upgraded characters with minor tweaks to the rock solid gameplay FTW.

* haven't played RE4 yet.

PoR Question: Is there any way to repair weapons? I'm in chapter 9, and my weapons are wearing out faster than I'm getting new ones.

The only item that repairs other items is the Hammerne, which you get late game and has three charges

I deserve to be ripped for this, but I've had this game for three weeks and just plain old haven't had time to touch it.

I am going to try to get to it on Friday...it's been a crazy couple of weeks.

You won't need it for much longer after you get the way to repair it.
I saved the staff charges for killer weapons

Weapons are never really a problem in this game. I finished the game with a ton of brave and killer weapons with pretty much full charges. Mainly because of the forge. You get enough money through the game so you always have enough to make a weapon with max damage and lowered weight and raised hit. Its only Crit that makes them super expensive.

BorkBork, why did you spoiler killer weapons?
