I don't think it can really be debated that a PC is the best gaming device, dollar for dollar spent compared to the other gaming platforms. So why did you pick your console of choice over just building a reasonable PC?

Price-
At launch, PS4 was 399.99 and XB1 was 499.99, even at their lowered prices, almost everyone has a PC which has a semi-modern CPU, which would be better than the junk in consoles, spending 300-400 dollars will get you a 1070, something FAR more powerful than anything in consoles. the games are also way cheaper, the sales in STEAM and on GOG are far better than whats on the consoles, even accessories can be cheaper.

Ease of Use- There was a time when consoles had this down locked. But now consoles require gigabyte updates for their OS, they require huge day one updates for games, and with things like STEAM Link, you can even easily play games on your "comfy couch" now as well.

breadth of games- PC hands down has far more games than both platforms combined, and they generally get most of the 3rd party games and their own exclusive list of games rival even Nintendo's 1st party games. Sony and MS barely have any 1st party to speak of.

Online- Compared to Steam, XBL and PSN are jokes. Everything they do, Steam does better, with way more access to games, and for free. And there aren't huge security risks like there are with PSN.

So is it just a brand thing? Nintendo fans (im one) love Nintendo. They put up with... a lot to be Nintendo fans despite the inferior hardware most of the time (Switch is pretty amazing as a handheld though, hats off to them). But are Sony and MS fans the same?

Do they simply love the "brand" of Sony or Xbox, and will simply buy into those brands gen in and gen out no matter what?

For me it is partly a brand thing, I simply love Nintendo's quirky games. They are a very nice compliment to my PC, so I will support them knowing all that listed above. So for you, what drives you to be a console gamer when PC gaming has come so far in the last decade?

Maybe, just maybe--people have different tastes, wants, needs, preferences, and financial standing than you do.

If I wasn't tapping this out on a mobile device I'd tell you why I prefer consoles.

It boils down to how much less janky it is overall. Yes I pay for online for Xbox but I know everyone uses party chat if not game chat. PC has lots of options that are all great but I have 4-5 different chat apps with different bindings and capabilities along with steam chat...it's too much

I believe for some, its because they associate a PC with work. You know, you just got done from working on your PC for hours, and you want to rest, but then bam, your on a PC again and you kinda groan a bit.

Others might be afraid of building a PC. Yeah, its easy for the people who have experience with it, but for newcomers, its a nightmare. I built my first ever PC in June of last year and I was freaking out left and right. What if I short circuit it, what if i put this piece in wrong, why won't it turn on.

For me however, I own a PS4, a 3DS, and my PC, because there are exclusives I want to play on them. I think its just a matter of what games you want play and where they are available at.

I have both. Most of the time, i buy singleplayer games on my consoles while multiplayer games on PC. (because of the competitive scene and all my friends game on PC) Even though i could play everything on PC, with my set-up it's more comfortable to play singleplayer games on consoles from a comfy couch.

And even if that wasn't the case, i've had way too many problems with PC games not working/bad ports and whatnot to be a PC gamer only. (+ Exclusives ofcourse)

But, if i had to choose one or the other - i'd go with PC.

Data caps. No internet to download games. Sorry Steam friends, my account is still a placeholder to this day.

I have every console and a PC.

As for why, because there's tons of games that aren't on PC, especially Nintendo and Sony franchises.

I also like the simplicity of console gaming, and while PC is unarguably more flexible, sometimes I get annoyed with having to fix games I bought on Steam because they don't work with my modern OS, the latest NVIDIA driver borking my system, etc. When I buy a game on my PS4 I know it'll work (i know there are exceptions )

It's also nice to just be able to pack up a console in my backpack if I need to travel or bring it to someone's house.

I mean if we really want to get into this, I actually prefer the PSN store to the Steam store. I'm not sure if it's the layout or what.

Good exclusive games will get me to buy your platform. I like playing the best games, no matter where they are, so I have all the platforms.

I prefer being comfy while gaming. Sitting in the sofa, chilling. And yes, I know you can do that with PC, but I do a lot of work on my PC, and sitting back in my sofa would not be practical for that. So it's in my office.

Plus, there are a lot of games I play that are not, and probably never will be, available on PC. I care more about games than whatever hardware I play on. I own all platforms, and have no plans to change that.

So when's Gravity Rush coming to PC again?

Seriously though, my family has all the current systems because guess what, they each have titles and features we like to make use of. Xbox One has a tonne of backwards compatibility on still console exclusive games. PS4 has a pretty noticeable number of exclusives, and good exclusives at that, while still being a decent Blu-Ray player. Nintendo meanwhile is Nintendo, not gonna get their stuff without buying in. Plus, sometimes a title was available for cheap on a given system.

I write this from the PC on which I do most of my current gaming.

Because despite my PC shitting on my PS4 Pro specs wise, it still can't even run games like Red Dead 2, Nioh, Final Fantasy XV, Yakuza.

No matter what system it is, if you only game on one system you need to grow up.

Bloodborne and The Last Guardian are two of the best experiences I've ever had with gaming.

I love playing on PC, it's overall my favorite platform, but it's not that simple. You can't put a price on subjective experiences. I don't care if I could buy more games with the amount I paid for Bloodborne, they're not Bloodborne.

The Last Guardian I actually got for ~$30 on a pre-order deal, so yeah.

I don't think this came out as you intended. There's more to buying multiple platforms than "growing up". I won't pass on a game that looks as brilliant as Breath of the Wild just because I'm not grown enough. Consoles aren't free.

How many times do we need to have this thread? It's not feasible for most people to have a comfy couch setup and PCs can't play Nintendo or Sony exclusives. It's not that hard to understand.

I liked the bit where he said you could buy a 1070 for the same price as a launch PS4 (the 1070 wasn't out then and the PS4 is cheaper now). He also conveniently ignored the fact that you can't play any games with just a 1070, you need lots of other stuff too.

And there aren't huge security risks like there are with PSN.

You mean like when people could access random accounts on Steam instead of their own?

Also, I can't wait to play Yakuza 0, Gravity Rush 2, TLOU, Bloodborne and Ratchet & Clank on my PC when I get home today!

Oh and the PC has the worst exclusives for me.

RTS's, MMO's, MOBA's, just the opposite of fun to me, so nah, not worth it even a little.

It's that time of the month again I see.

The amazing thing about the human race is that we all have different preferences for what makes us comfortable and happy. I think that's a great thing.

I can't focus when I play on the PC. Too easy to multitask and do some other shit like browse GAF/do work. When I play on a console I'm away from the PC and can just focus on the game.

I have both, Steam has an absolutely insane amount of crap that they push...

Also the Microsoft sales recently have been arguably better than the recent Steam sales.

I love my PC. It's awesome. I love PC games too, but something just feels, I don't know, cold when playing them. There's a deep connection, that I have with consoles. My first gaming memories are consoles. It's just something about that magic little box that sits near my TV that just feels, right. Even though they function in more or less the same way, a dedicated console still gets the lions share of my gaming time. That and Destiny isn't available on PC :p (Yet)

Maybe I'm weird, but that's how I feel.

Exclusives on console. Multiplats on PC.

I buy certain multiplatform games on console where I want to experience a different community. One example is Dark Souls where I get the console and PC versions.

Eh, no offense OP but that was really hard to read. :/

I have a gaming PC but I do prefer playing on consoles. Usually larger communities and my friends play on consoles as well. A ton of games (mostly Japanese) that I love aren't available on PC either, so exclusives on consoles are another reason. Then there's the plug & play experience of a console that I find very important. I've had too many issues with PC games/hardware that have put me off them completely.

At the end of the day, does it really matter?

Man what? How many consoles you play on determine maturity levels? Fuck outta here.
