If you never got around to playing vanilla Persona 5, then Persona 5 Royal is now the perfect starting point. Filled with a plethora of new story and gameplay content to go along with all of the DLC from the original, this is without a doubt the definitive edition.

Twinfinite - 90
The additions introduced in Royal allow Persona 5 to become the excellent JRPG it was always truly meant to be, and it's a wonderful effort that will surely be appreciated by fans.

RPG Site -100
Persona 5 Royal isn’t just my favorite Atlus re-release, it might just be my new favorite Atlus game of all time.

TheSixthAxis - 100
Persona 5 Royal is a stunning game that takes something which has already captured millions of hearts and makes it even better. This is the quintessential Persona experience. If you're new to the franchise, this game is for you. If you're a seasoned veteran, there is enough new and improved content that this game is still for you.

God is a Geek - 100
For those that have already enjoyed the original game, this is a fan’s dream, with everything you could wish for and more, with nearly every aspect improved upon. A spellbinding videogame, and one that deserves to be spoken about in reverential terms for many years to come.

Hardcore Gamer - 90
Persona 5 Royal is a shining beam of light for the JRPG genre and one you won’t want to put down despite its massive time commitment.

Stevivor - 9/10
Persona 5 — and the expanded Persona 5 Royal — are both beautiful balancing acts; ones that feel eternally stressful unless you give in and enjoy them rather than aiming for the perfect run.

Press Start - 9/10
The gist of it is though; this is more than just a few updates slapped on top of an existing game, it's a complete rethinking of the major and minor components that made the original what it was.

GamingBolt - 10/10
Taking a great game and making it even better, Persona 5 Royal is near perfect, and the definitive way of playing one of the greatest games ever made.

Would I enjoy this if I'm not an angsty teenager or someone who doesn't like angsty teenage anime?

Genuine question, I'm not trying to be funny.

Man, I want to play this (again), but really want it on a portable system. I wish I knew the actual reasons why this is not coming to consoles other than PlayStation. If it has any chance to ever come to Switch, I'll wait. If not, I may want to play the new version on PS4.

I'm still waiting to see if the content is enough to warrant another $60. I played the shit out of P5, and eventually capped at 120 hours. If the new content isn't substantial (right now it sounds like it's just added a month in the summer and a new hangout for the PT) I'll probably pick this up after a price drop when I've got a hankering to play P5 again.

Here decide for yourself.

Trophies don't stack with Vanilla? I enjoyed getting the platinum trophy, I might do it again with Royal if its a separate list.

Was anything done to address the subpar localization of vanilla P5?

I'm a persona super fan, I've played P3 and P4 about 4-5 times each.

But I dropped P5 on my first playthrough at the casino level because the translation was so bad.

Should I buy this one? I bought the original on release, played until the end of Haru dungeon and stopped. Got a little bored and other games caught my attention.

Should I finish the og or buy this new one and restart it? Honestly, the dungeons are too long on the og.. Did they fixed that?

This is the first Atlus game that I simply don't know if I should buy it... I always buy them on launch...

When you asked people what they thought the highest scored game of 2020 would be I don't think most would say Persona 5 Royal yet it might happen. A 96 is hard to get. Only GTA5 and RDR2 have a higher score on PS4. Not even sure TLOU2 or Cyberpunk will top this score.

As expected, massive praise from the press, like what happened with the original game 3 years ago. It's certainly deserved, even though I personaly prefer P4 Golden over P5.

I dunno if I should day one this or not. Price-wise it's one hell of a double-dip and it's also a huge time sucker like very few games are. For as long as I did a single P5 run, I finished Persona 3 TWICE !

It's an exhausting and involving game so I want to clear my backlog at bit first so that I can give it my full attention.

Jesus! The PS4 could potentially have three or four 90 rated games in 2020

Same position I am in. I am a few dungeons in, but I got busy with other things. I also felt the dungeons were a bit too long in the original.

Super excited to double-dip, but distressed if I should put off starting this until after FF7R release and playthrough. It will probably take me more than 2 weeks to get through fully, and I don't like putting games down partway through...

I'm planning to play both, with Persona 5's structure I can play it bite size, I'm also type of person who's no hurry to finish games as fast as possible.

Sounds like an overall improvement of what was already a good game.
I'll make a mental note to wait for the definitive edition of Persona 6 since I generally play through these games once. (I already finished vanilla Ps5 and have no desire to spend another 100 hours with game)

Not sure I have the time to sit through this once more, I'm interested but maybe I'll wait for Atlus's next move.

Also did all of the critics really played the game until the end?

Don't get me wrong P5 is a superb game but never thought those additions will bump the score!

I need to know everything they're adding
