Some of the parody didn't feel that bad, though. Like Akihiko demanding a protein shake and calling it "the good stuff" was hilarious. Distorted Chie trying to eat Yosuke was funny, too.

Its more when the joke kinda falls apart that I'm left shrugging. Specifically when Kanji's "yeah what a cool dream this is!" is taken too far because it leaves an enormous gaping hole in the entire story.
Sure, most of the parody is pretty good, as far as I'm concerned.

Like when they spend time making fun of Akihiko's cape or Teddie's quip about Mitsuru's catsuit. I dunno. I don't have much problem with P4A. Just the way that none of the storymodes bother to match up after arriving in the Arena.

the story structure itself is the real culprit.
So, the final boss is the Story Structure?

Joking aside, I agree with you. We'l just have to wait and see if they made the right choice in keeping that structure for P4AU. Maybe they've learned something. However...

>Every character from Persona 3 and 4 will have their individual story being told in the Story Mode.
Does that actually mean that it will be exactly the same structure?

^What he do this time?

I don't actually mean it tho....or DO I?

Well first he basically screamed "I am a giant homophobe" with Kanji. Then he blackmailed the girls into wearing swimsuits (which he bought, which is like creep factor x100). Then the game forced me to either agree with him (which I wouldn't) or make super assholish remarks against the girls (which I wouldn't do either) because reasons. That whole scene was really awful and just shouldn't have existed in the first place.

So screw Yosuke.

Interesting that the not-obvious playable character Rise is the one being shown off first, even by Famitsu, with all these leaks all over the place, yet no one's mentioned any Ken appearance even though he was the most obvious in comparison. I wonder if he's even in the latest issue of Famitsu.

Does that actually mean that it will be exactly the same structure?
If interpreted the way it is written, evidently. The problem then lies on whether they all fit together and, if not, whether they provide a separate, canon path.

Might not be. Could be the next Persona info blast. Or could be promised to Dengeki!

So which one did you choose? I think I chose to be an asshole.

I guess all we can do about it for the moment is speculate.

I can almost guarantee that he will be shown off at least during the latest Persona Stalker Club.
Yeah, I think so too. When will that air?

March 25 in Japan, so most likely sometime this Thursday for us.

Ken not being shown off isn't unexpected, to be honest. It'd be weird for them to blow their load this far away from release, especially in regards to an apparently much-desired character.
You don't think it's weird that he's not been mentioned at all in any of the leaks despite all of the other information coming out?

And like I said, I could bet you right now that he's going to be shown off this Thursday/Friday, so I wouldn't say it'd be weird to show him off now at all.

This might be the thread where we see the first images or watch the first trailer of Persona 5. Exciting!

Ken's the most popular Persona character worldwide, so I think it's appropriate to reveal him last. It would generate the most hype.

True. Ken's inclusion is going to set the world on fire, so I can only assume that they'll wait until the hype is at a fever pitch before revealing him and also revealing that he's Atlus' new mascot.

It'd be pretty great if P4AU linked to how the power of music can be used to dispatch Shadows in P4D. Also, I guess there should be more P4AU info incoming tomorrow via Famitsu, but there's also that "big" update that the site should be experiencing.

Yay OT5! By the time Persona 5 releases we'll be at, what, OT25? XD
Guess it depends on when P5's out here, but assuming it's Q1 2015, we'd probably be somewhere around OT7 or OT8, going from past trends. Probably OT9 due to all the Persona stuff coming out this year.

Considering the speed these threads go, I would say OT8-10 give or take.

Also new thread, yay.
*Looks at thread title*

And don't ever think of forgetting Persona 2, unless you want to feel the wrath of Tatsuya and Maya

The Japanese wording on the leak about the story structure gives me a faint glimmer of hope that they might actually change the way the story is told for Ultimax.

ストーリーモードはP3,P4の各キャラを描く.

I'm no expert, but I'd interpret this as "The story mode will portray the story of each character from P3 and P4", which leaves me with the impression that the story mode simply touches upon the fate of all characters but doesn't necessarily give them seperate scenarios.

Yeah, that's also a possibility I've seen others post about relating to the wording. Too early to say either way, but here's to hoping.

Really anticipating tomorrow. I wonder if Rise and Ken are supposed to be arcade characters first or if they're going to make their debut in the console version.

Yeah, I'd basically interpret that as "The story mode will incorporate characters from both P3 and P4."

|OT| 2 of the 5 |OT|s of the wait for P5 begins!

You've stated all that very eloquently (and you have every right to, I'm just ribbing you, really) but I think you're making that popular, critical mistake of recognizing that the story is canon and thus taking it as seriously as a heart attack.

P4A is fun. It's a victory lap by a studio that basically created one of the strongest casts to appear in a video game. I think they have every right to poke fun at themselves and turn these characters into caricatures because in the original work - that only one that really, actually matters - they're phenomenal characters and we all know that. P4A isn't going to change that. Neither is P4D or anything else.

"But why does this stuff have to be cannon?"

Legitimate question. Probably even a good question!

But it just. Doesn't. Matter.
When something IS canon, especially something reknowned for its quality like Persona has been, that seriousness is required. That's how it got so good instead of ending up wallowing in the gutter from its inception like so many lighter narratives in gaming.

Funnily enough, with the whimsical, playing loose-and-fast-with-the-narrative Q we're seeing the opposite: it's apparently not considered canon by Atlus, and others freak out.

I just expected better bouncing of personalities off of each other than what I got. It's character-driven, and with characters this strong, it shoulda been a slam-dunk. :\

Well, I don't think we truly know whether they consider it canon or not, but I agree with what you're saying. There's a distinct difference in tone between PQ and P4U, where the latter is meant to set up a cohesive, conclusive and elaborate story.

Yeah, I'm stickin' to my guns. Some of you guys take P4A waaaaaay too seriously from a narrative standpoint.

Is it difficult to accept that some people look for different things in different stories compared to you? I am not here saying that you don't take it seriously enough; it's natural that different people will interpret the story's goals differently.

I see we're on the fifth official topic, and I see we're also discussing Arena's story again! :p

I'll repeat what I said on Ultimax tho: It's disappointing that they're using the individual story route again, but it's hardly a dealbreaker just like how it wasn't in the original game. I'll still enjoy the writing.

Yo add a bit about the weekly fanart themes in the OP thanks in advance
That's a good idea.

Finished the S.link FM episode

To be honest, I didn't think i'd enjoy it due to the subject matter, but I actually ended up liking it a lot. The topics were enjoyable, and I liked how you could simultaneously praise SMT/Persona/Catherine and point out their flaws without going overboard in either direction. The guests panelists were fantastic, and I appreciated the synergy between Levito & Armada.

A great episode, all n' all.

At the very least, I hope they step up some of the character writing. Nothing like Yukiko or Kanji's story mode.

I'm gonna confess to be pretty interested in getting inside Rise's head, though.

I'm just hoping there isn't too much monologue this time around. That to me was a major problem with the writing in the game, there was way too much at some points, it wasn't bad in some places. But in others, I just wanted them to just hurry up, like did we really need to go in depth of what happens during P4 or P3 again. A good writer knows to give enough info to satisfy the viewer, but doesn't give them too much to overbear them.

I don't know if this was said before by anyone, but I just hope half of P4A2's story won't be spent on reviewing the previous game (for the recurring characters).

I'm ok with some recap from the new characters though.
