The veterinarian at O'Connor Animal Hospital, where Johana Villafane was brutally killed by her two pit bulls on March 23, and where the dogs had been staying in quarantine after a March 15 bite, has a released a statement. Dr. James Kang, DVM, stated Villafane's dogs were so aggressive his staff could not walk them and told Villafane the clinic could not keep her dogs due to their aggressive behavior, unless Villafane herself would walk them twice a day.

Dr. Kang's statement, however, must be weighed against another revelation. On Tuesday, London Pinder, a North Texas college student, told media outlets she was almost killed by a dog at the O'Connor Animal Hospital 15 months ago while working as an intern. A pit bull she was trying to put a leash on suddenly pinned her down and latched onto her neck. The dog nearly hit an artery. Pinder filed a dangerous dog report with Irving Police, but only got an apology from Dr. Kang.

Great! more pitbull hate. Learn to socialise your fucking dog and you won't have this problem. Shitty dog owners gonna shitty dog owners
Are they? Why is the breed banned in over 20 states? I don't know much about em just posted the story since I found it ironic she went to a place where they keep dogs that bite people and got killed in it. I like dogs, usually.

It’s not hate, it’s the acknowledgement that certain dogs are capable of doing much more damage than others. And these are animals, we can socialize them and I’ve know bull terriers that are delightful dogs, but we don’t fully understand them. This is true of any freakishly strong and powerful breed, bull terriers just happen to be the go-to dog right now for a lot of the wrong reasons for a lot of the wrong people.

i cant stand people who try and make it seem like animals have the same ability as humans for like understanding or getting over some kind of behavior or even rehabilitation. its the same people who baby talk animals and say their bad tendencies are "so adorable omg hes throwing a tantrum!". this is a breed that can fuck some shit up. shit just like you can have just a shitty person you can have just a shitty dog. not to say every one of them is evil or something but they do have the potential to do some harm just like any other powerful breed. i think sometimes "animal lovers" need a reality check and realize not every dog is this angel that just got bad chips in life.

Because a lot of dog owners are ignorant cunts, that's why. Many people get a dog and then wish they could turn it on and off like some toy when they don't want to deal with it. That's not how it works, you have to raise your dog almost like a child. It takes a lot of time and effort to properly socialise a dog, especially stronger breeds because smaller dogs have a natural aversion to them and will automatically go on defensive near them.

Back home where my cavvie still lives with my mom there are a lot of bully breeds around and most are extremely well socialised and play well with smaller dogs. But there are 2 or 3 that I would never allow near my dog or small children, and guess what, one look at their owners and you know why that is the case.

They're dogs that were literally made to kill bears and bulls for sport then fight one another. They went through human-induced evolution to be as aggressive and dangerous as possible, they're the closest thing we have to real life BOWs from Resident Evil.

I get that with training and the right conditions they can be perfectly pleasant dogs, but it takes way more than with other breeds to curb their natural instinct to attack. The idea that every pitbull who killed someone or tore into someone just had a shitty owner is ridiculous. Chances are, the owner did everything right for a normal dog but it wasn't enough for a pitbull.

People who post shit like this:

May as well be saying the Earth is flat, because science says otherwise.

So, the pit bulls attacked their owner suddenly, despite her walking them twice a day the days before without any issues? Interesting...

she's pretty too, what a shame.

and we keep hearing its not the breed its how you raise them but certain races are more predisposed to violence. and when a pitbull snaps the consequences are far more severe than when a Chihuahua snaps.
Its a disgusting breed of dog, bred for violence and dogfighting. its time to ban them all.

The excuse is literally, "it's not the dog. It's the person who raises the dog". C'mon.

Dog bites:

According to a study from the Center For Disease Control (CDC), approximately 4.7 million dog bites occur in the United States each year, and 800,000 of those bites result in medical care. The U.S. population is approximately 325.7 million people as of 2017. That means a dog bites 1 out of every 69 people.

Guns:

Gun violence in the United States results in tens of thousands of deaths and injuries annually. In 2013, there were 73,505 nonfatal firearm injuries (23.2 injuries per 100,000 persons), and 33,636 deaths due to "injury by firearms" (10.6 deaths per 100,000 persons).

I never understood why anyone would want to have something in their home that might decide to rip their throat out one day. Might as well sleep with a loaded shotgun hanging on a thread above their pillow
The shotgun of Damocles; The ever present danger of being a pitbull owner.

Pit Bulls are the Democrats of the dog world. A hand-selected group that was chosen to be held down for no apparent reason. I wonder how long until we want them to earn the right to vote?

My previous dog was attacked twice in his life. Both times they were unprovoked. Both times the dog seemed to be with an normal looking family (sure, I'm assuming). Both times, it was a pit bull attacking. Sure it's very anecdotal. Such a coincidence though.

Not all pits are bad. Some people have also trained lions and bears to not attack. Does that make them good pets? Your feelings don't override facts. The facts are these are the highest risk dogs.

One of the guys in the bar used to have a Doberman. That was the softest dog I ever met which surprised me given their reputation.. All that dog wanted in life was for people to pet her. She was so soft we used to make jokes about him needing to get himself a guard dog for her. Until one night some guys tried to rob him and that big ole puppy fucked those boys up. The cops didnt have any trouble catching those assholes.

I believed this the first couple times I heard of a pit bull incident. I’ve long since ceased to.

But now I wonder if it might all be solved by pit bull owners naturally selecting themselves out of the population.

I had met a police officer who had a male doberman as a pet dog. At least he was considerate enough to tell me not to touch him

You know pit bulls have a bad reputation for being vicious, but they're really just trying to lick the girl's face off with love. They're actually the most adorable dogs if you raise them right. Such misunderstood creatures.

What do you mean? Unless you are stupid, you don't just touch a random dog. There shouldn't be a need for someone to tell you that.

All pit bulls I knew until today were docile but I don't know much about the breed. I am wary of them, though. As puppies they're adorable but I will never get close to one adult pitbull and I would never have one since I sould fear for my daughter's safety. I'll stick with my Japanese Chin which is like a little monk dog, she is the calmest fucking creature on earth. So chill.

I love siberian huskies dude. The sight of one just fills me with love. A while ago I was walking home and I cross a random girl walking her very young siberian husky. Only about a foot tall and the the little pupper pounced on my leg with it's tongue out ready to play. I felt it's little paws. Your heart fucking melts with these absolute little angels.

These are my fav kinds of dogs. Every one I've met are always super friendly with a big smile. You'd think they might be dangerous as they can be fairly big and look like wolves, but nope. There's one on my block (which I think is a husky), he loves when everyone comes up to him. He gets so happy he climbs up and howls. No barking, happy howls only.

If I ever got a dog, it would this breed.

To me this is a case of do you believe in genetics or not? Other behavioral traits can be bred into dogs - some dogs fetch instinctively, some dogs herd instinctively, some dogs even will rescue drowning people instinctively (go ahead, try to drown near a Newfoundland, it might not rescue you but it will try to), so why don't people want to believe some dogs will attack instinctively?

If you lived in an country with countless stray dogs that form packs ready to attack if they see you in fear and panic, you'd have to be more flexible
Also depends if the animal is friendly or not. Eg if the dog went to smell you and was friendly, there would not be a need not to pet it. We were discussing for a while and the dog was near us so we talked also about the dog, who he told me was very unpredictable. Another guy had a puppy near him and it caught his attention wanting to smel it.

Why would you even pet a stray dog? That's even worse. Personally, I'm not afraid of dogs and in general, they seem to like me. Still, I would never pet one unless the owner gave the okay. It's just common sense. Honestly, it's no surprise then that there are so many dog bites a year.

I have a Husky and they are great lovers of people. They do like to hunt birds and small mammals but with people they are very friendly.

Strays are different, though in general they are less aggressive than badly socialised pet dogs.

If there is a pack and they come straight barking at you you need to remain calm. In the countryside it is even worse. Some shepherd dogs especially can be very threatening. I also carry snacks for such cases. Whats worse, strays run straight to cars in order to bark both inside the city and highway roads. Had to push the brakes at the last moment many times to avoid an accident at high speed

The thing is, can you be 100% sure that they won't bite? If not, the risk is too high, especially when it comes to stray dogs who may have diseases.

I come from the countryside, so I'm very familar with all kinds of dogs. Not sure about stray ones though. While I did meet some without an owner from time to time, they were maybe just out for a stroll. And yeah, carrying a snack makes sense (if there are a lot around), considering that they are likely underfed.
