So, the parents are confused why their son who was an armed robber was shot by the person he was trying to rob?

A criminal with a gun does NOT have any "right". That's laughable.

He's there threatening other peoples lives. If he dies...that's on him. 100%

Jesus, what is wrong with those parents...

I understand they're grieving, but blame your son. Also, evaluate how you raised him.

Now that's weird. Who brings a gun to work?

And they shot him in the head?!

Someone who gets robbed a lot. Pizza places (also bars and independent or convenience stores) around me usually have an armed person because of repeated robberies. Don't know how chains handle that though, the places I know of are local.

Sad story that it comes to this, but armed robbery doesn't have good outcomes.

If he gets jail time I will have lost all faith in the US.

Armed robber got what he had coming, imo.

“If there was to be a death, it was not the place of the employee at Pizza Hut. That is the place of law enforcement,” said Hairston.

It's kind of sad that the low bar being set is "he should be killed by police".

But I have to laugh darkly at the "yeah he broke the law but he wouldn't hurt anybody" line. When it comes to what your kids are capable of, parents are always operating with a pretty big blind spot. Don't be surprised that other people don't see your baby angel who wouldn't hurt them when a guy with a gun rolls up and tries to rob them.

Fucked up situation all the way around. It's so hard to defend the robbers, but at the same time, the employee was scared and didn't know what to do other than to shoot to try and protect himself. This culture we have created is Kill first, ask questions later. Sometimes you let the people take what they came for, and call the cops after. Just because we have guns doesn't mean we need to use them. This sucks for everyone involved.

Im pretty sure it's in the employee handbook if I had to guess.

There is an entire two paragraph section in my current work contract that says not to bring your gun to work even if I had a conceal and carry permit. Lol

That's probably why he's "on leave" now...lol

This is what the KFC near me in Brooklyn was like. I can't imagine the psyche of someone working behind that daily.

the lack of empathy from some of you people is fucking disgusting. we don't live in the wild west and treating every criminal like a rabid animal that needs to be put down only helps to perpetuate violence.

No way will the guy serve any jail time, I can understand the parents grieving but their son threatened people in a state that has Castle Doctrine. The case would be easily thrown out considering they were armed.

Franchise though. Also in some places in the US armed guards are required in restaurants after dark. Its either get armed protection or you cant be open past a certain hour because places like them get hit so often.

In a country where you have the right to own a gun and now when one gun owner shoots another gun holder because his life is threatened by the gun holder pointing the gun at him?
He had every right to kill him because if the person being threatened had been killed and then found to have been holding a gun we would then be discussing why he didn't use it.

They likely fired in his direction, anything to get a stopping hit, I don't think he was a pro target shooter and literally meant to hit him in the head, gun goes off in your general direction, you might be lucky and cop one to a non-vital organ, or you could cop it square to the head.

Our company is the opposite.

I feel for any idiot that would try to rob us. 80% of the employees are armed (not a made up %). Our owner gives the ok, and we have to have CWPs.

I'm sure Pizza Hut doesn't allow it though. However, that doesn't change the fact that their son is the only one responsible for his death. Don't commit a robbery period...let alone with a weapon.

I feel sorry for the parents. Losing a child is awful.

I'd shoot anyone that threatened my, a customers, or my kids/families life though. Period

Don't tell me to feel bad for saving others. It's not a lack of empathy, it's a love and value of the life of others.

The robber had a gun. You are absolutely in the right to shoot someone who is threatening you with a weapon, in order to defend yourself.

That's interesting. I did not know that.

http://www.reuters.com/article/us-restaurants-crime-idUSTRE76A3R720110711

"Small restaurants in the city of Newark, New Jersey will be required to have an armed security guard at night under a new law approved by the city council.

The rule comes in the wake of a drive-by shooting in May at the Texas Fried Chicken and Pizza restaurant, where an off-duty Newark police officer was killed.

Under the ordinance, approved by the council unanimously on Thursday, restaurants that serve 15 or fewer people must hire an armed guard to stand watch after 9 p.m. Those unwilling to pay for a security guard must close by 10 p.m."

So I googled,

Code:
It is illegal to carry a concealed pistol or gun in North Carolina without a concealed carry permit, unless you are on your own premises.

I wonder if the kid had a concealed carry permit.

It's a pretty clear case of 'self-defence', but I'm sure the above would play into the mix if he were charged for anything.

Does that extend to businesses? I know they're still private property, but do employees have the same rights as the owners in that case? Are they protected as "dependants", I guess?

No one is saying that. The point is if you escalate a situation with lethal force then you are at fault for whatever happens next. Ideally neither of these guys had guns.

The employee will presumably be laid off or suspended for a while since that's against the employee handbook. Unless the local boss had gone against the handbook and asked the individual to bring a gun for protection?

I've never seen glass like that before. Crazy.

Apparently the neighborhood was experiencing a really awful crime wave which is probably why the employee had the gun.

The robber had a gun. You are absolutely in the right to shoot someone who is threatening you with a weapon, in order to defend yourself.

.

Sorry I can't comprehend it any other way.

i think that says you dont need a permit in your own place/home/business.

The robber had a gun and was committing armed robbery. He was threatening others' lives. More people could've died if he wasn't shot
