The $700 price tag is even more daunting when you consider the additional cost of online services and the lack of a disc drive. This forces you to buy games at full price from the PSN store, even years after their release, while the same games are often half off at retail just six months post-launch. For instance, GOWR is still priced at $69.99 on the PSN store, whereas you can find it preowned on eBay for around $35.

Pretty confident they didn't aim at all for mass-market appeal though, so not sure how much they'll care.

Not really, its been how I look at this for the 15 year or so, consoles also area bit better the an equivalent pc but for this performance this is the price I would expect.

It’s premium priced to make nice profits from each sale. Boosted up more with every stand and disc drive too. Combined with game pads going up recently too they are gunning hard for profits and margin to counter their gaas bombs. Xbox tanking lately makes it the perfect opportunity.

No, Sony first party PS5 games don't get as much discount as they did on the PS4 era, even on retail.
No, you don't need PS Plus if you plan on only get single player games.
