I'm still shocked at how bad this reveal was. Just an absolute fumble across the board. How did they think this was going to land, exactly?


- Show zero new games. None
- O look, it's four year old The Last of Us 2, AGAIN
- O look, it's five year old Ratchett & Clank, AGAIN
- O look, it's two year old Horizon, AGAIN
- the comparison video has people freeze frames to notice any upgrade
- "stand sold separately" was a catastrophic mistake because they showed the special metal finish stand. Of course the Pro comes with a default plastic stand but now everyone thinks this fucking thing won't even have a stand. But still, you couldn't even be bothered to include this thing that costs like 5 dollars to produce to your prestige "pro" model?
- no disc drive. Not even a mention of a disc drive. Zero info on what you're supposed to do is you have disc games. Well guess what, you have to buy a separate one for 100 euros
- mention an incredibly meagre list of games that will harness the power of the Pro, be super vague about what that even entails
- the insane price point when the value proposition is ridiculous right after dropping the bomb that it comes without disc drive


So that's 800 euros for the console plus 100 euros for the disc drive, are you serious? Unbelievably bad move from Sony. If they would've shown one new game, just ONE game that would make people go "wow, cool this might be worth the huge investment" then the vibe would've been way different.

i dont judge anyone who buys it at release but i just hope its not a lot of folks. it would send not a good messagem for future console prices. sony is doing the same as the gpu manufacturers they saw what people paid in the mining times now they raised the prices so high that they pretty much bevsame the scalpers. sony is trying the same. if a lot of people bite the welcome new prices and ps6 pro for maybe 4 figures even.

To me, it's not so much the $700 price tag but the value proposition. The PS5 is a perfectly fine and capable system. These marginal upgrades that the Pro offers are something you save for the PS6. All of the games shown are games that are already out that will just run at a higher frame rate and might have ray tracing. Again, save that for the PS6.

No disc drive. No stand. Basically a digital only console. It's basically a mini PC that's locked to the Sony store and PS4/PS5 games only. I just don't see the point of the system. Mid-gen console refreshes is a concept that needs to die.

With the costs remaining the same Sony aren't going to magically cut the standard PS5 to $300 when releasing the Pro. Unfortunately it was always going to be priced stacked, Standard PS5 remains around $500, this Pro around $700. I just don't get the outrage. PS5 standard has remained expensive like everything else.

Adding a disc drive puts the cost up more, they probably have data that the type of buyer isn't buying used games or looking for deals at retailers and it's about 80% digital, they probably need a 2tb drive which is what they went for. Seems people are being unrealistic given the current PS5 price.

PS5 at launch were selling for more, there's enough out there to buy this, which is aimed at the 15-20%.

Normally prices on consoles go down yet we're not seeing this in a post covid inflation period. I don't have a PS5 due to it remaining at a high price, no interest in a $700 one. I've stuck to my GTX 1080 and just laughed at GPU prices and the current PS5 price. The BOM price on consoles means there not much room to maneuver.

As someone who has distanced myself from Playstation brand over the years, because their content doesn't really interest me, I still find it a bit baffling that this totally optional product has been met with so much vitriol. Everything we heard so far sounds like a good upgrade with noticeable improvements and If I would get pissed off about anything, it would be the ridiculous price difference between US and EU.

While I do agree about price's too high, remember that EU price is VAT included, which is 20% on average, while the US price is not. So the 800€ VAT included would be actually around 670€ with no taxes.

It does hurt them revealing a new more powerful iteration of their console when most of the games shown were third parties or games there were already on PS4 initially like TLoU2 or Ghost of Tsushima, and Horizon FW. Only other PS5-only exclusives were Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart and Spiderman 2... No way people would have reacted positively to that.

One of the most tone deaf presentations I've seen after the Xbox One with Don Mattrick or the PS3 reveal. Cerny can sing all the praises he wants about the new hardware, but without games to show its potential then those are just words to the wind.

This machine is mainly made for what's to come, and to fix current crappy looking titles such as Alan Wake 2, Jedi: Survivor, Wukong, DD2, etc.

Even if it would have obviously made for a much more effective reveal, they were forced to use their own material.

I am sorry but thats not true because the PS4 Pro reveal had third party games like For Honor, Rise of Tomb Raider, Watch Dogs, paragon and Deus Ex shown while Cerny talked in the background.

What people fail to realize is that this is more or less the exact same reaction to the PS4 Pro

Dude Playstation 5 has been breaking even since middle of 2021 mere months after launch. Right in the middle of the chip shortage, supply chain issues and the pandemic.

The cost of producing these consoles have significantly dropped like they do every gen. this slide is likely due to PSVR and PS Portal.

What I Learned Playing Sony's PS5 Pro

Exclusive: I checked out the new console upgrade, coming Nov. 5 for $700, and played a bunch of games. Here's who might appreciate the new graphics boosts the most.

It more to do with that the differences are going to be subtle in a lot of cases. The PS4 Pro launched with a noticeable improvement from 1080p up to rendered/scaled up to 4K. Here we are going to see rendered/scaled 4K to better rendered/scaled 4K. Yes dips under 60/30 should be less frequent with the PS5 Pro but how much.

The PS4 pro launched at $400 in the states the same as the original PS4 launch price. That made either buying a new one outright or trading up far easier. Now in the states we are looking at a $300 increase over the the original digital PS5 comparing apples to apples. I believe economics right there alone are going to result in a much smaller ratios of PS5 Pros to PS5s versus the PS4 Pros to the PS4.

The game companies making games for these systems are going to be aware of this. Therefore the PS5 performance is going to be the priority. The answer to just get a Pro for better performance is a harder pill to swallow. I wouldn’t be shocked to see Pros this gen get lower than a 10/90 split.

That said I’m probably most likely getting one, but I don’t expect to see the gap between the Pro and the non Pro to be as large as last generation. The likes to dislikes ratio simply implies that a lot of people don’t see the value in the upgrade.

Even with sales the digital copies don't go as low as a retail copy most of time. I could also sale that physical copy and put it towards another game.

yeah i understand all that, but it's about have a choice. i dont need/want the hassle for selling a game for a couple of euros. I buy games in the store on sale for a maximum of 45 euro. When i have played enough hours on it i move on. its my choice and i feel fine.
