It is just poking fun at the fact that Sony characters are either near worthless in Q score terms, or too real to be fun in an arcade brawler; e.g. a character whose marketing focuses on torture porn and her preference for female sexual partners.

Yeah Sony's characters just aren't iconic to carry such a game. Like Joe said, most of them look too realistic to even feel like they should be in such a game. It's like an uncanny valley effect. Nathan Drake vs Sly Cooper just looks bizarre.
Id prefer they not. One reason smash works is because nintendo characters have a similar art style. Sackboy, kratos, and Joel and Ellie dont make sense together, even in a fighting game.
Link, Mario, Samus, Bayonetta, Sonic, Banjo, Squall, Solid Snake and Kirby share an artstyle in general? You must be kidding me. Nintendo uses variations of the standard appearance of the characters to make them mesh well.
Tlou2 will be like tlou1, stealth murder sim with super serious story that really wants players to feel, except the jump in graphical fidelity will make the scenes nauseating for sensitive people like me.
Is there any reason to think it wont be that? Like are we getting a cool AAA puzzle point and click adventure game? Will we be able to use our Charisma points to do a pacifist walkthrough? Or is ellie going to going to different worlds and collecting moons?

At the beggining they try to unify the style..but it dont made the cut.
in the VS creen draw. you can see the cartoony kratos.
(i dunno why the image duplicates)
The hook of these games is always the characters, and Sony just completely blew it the first time around. That's a fixable problem, but they need to put in the work - especially since Nintendo got a bunch of those characters since like Cloud.
A space mouse-tiger thing
A sack thing
FTM Lara Croft
A guy from a tech demo
A vidal sassoon model
Ellen Page
A GOT wildling cosplayer
A rejected character from Tom and Jerry
A cat
A metal dog
Ellen Page (again)
I always said that the first game should have been a 3D fighting game (something similar to Anarchy reigns for example) instead of that cheap-ass Smash clone (Smash is casual garbage anyway). If done well this does have the potential to turn out good but only if Sony actually gives it the time and budget a project like this needs both for the development itself and also to acquire the rights for 3rd party characters that are synonymous with the Playstation brand.
Also they have much more interesting 1st party characters than the ones appearing in that lame box cover.
IF they gave the project to a developer like Platinum Games and get the rights for all the iconic 3rd party characters who are synonymous with the brand then it could turn out great.
All Sony has to do is make it more mature than Smash...…..Up the violence, make it more addictive…..People need to get salty from losing, that's the hook of any fighting game....
