There is no emulation.

PS5 APU works via hardware as PS4 and PS4 Pro APU.
AMD and Sony worked to make that works.

Games works... if it is satisfactory to you is on you.
They need to show us it works and how well it works. Telling us on a blog post is not enough. Youtubers have been running the Series X for weeks now and Sony is still being cryptic.
If it works that well, why not show it?
That one's a bummer, but the fact that only ten out of 4000+ PS4 games won't work on PS5 is quite an achievement.
We don't know that. They're asking us to test each PS4 game before getting add ons on PS5. If it was only ten, the message would have been don't get add ons for the following 10 games.

They are not asking us to test if the game works lol

They are asking to try first and see if you like the experience before make any purchase for that game.

They already know which games works and doesn’t work... they even give you a list.

You can transfer digital games and saved data from a PS4 console to a PS5 console using WiFi data transfer.

I'm clinging onto the hope that this method will allow me to transfer P.T. to my PS5 on Nov 12th

So this might be interesting......on the one hand, this new info says zero about a ps4 pro "mode" like the presentation. In fact it says nothing about pro or 4k at all.

But, if we are getting patches for a "naitive" mode for all the good games (100 or so was stated) this may actually be better. Depends on the game, and what the " native mode" actually means. We still need more info sony........what are the 100 games and what are the upgrades?

You want to be shown 4.000 games that work? That's going to be one hell of a long video.
Anything above zero would be good thank you very much. We're very far from 4000 at the moment.
"It works" isn't enough. What is the performance like? We want to see reviews now Sony.

nope. That game had locked the framerate. And Sony with Spider-Man is clear they are not going to patch older games.

spider man is a poor example. They’re remastering it. Why hurt sales of the remaster?Devs gotta eat

Cerny specifically said his PS5 talk that the "boost" mode was so "massive" that some PS4 game code simply couldn't handle it and that boost support would need to be done on a "game by game" basis. The fact they've further reiterated here that only "select PS4 games" will benefit from PS5 boost confirms this with out a doubt. Honestly that's a big let down, if I'm not mistaken pretty much any title on Xbox can benefit from the Series X's new power automatically if it has uncapped framerate or a dynamic resolution or even on unstable locked framerate. The fact the it seems like most PS4 games are just going to run as they did on PS4 or PS4 Pro is bullshit.

wait, so, my digital PS4 games are not going to appear in my PS5 library..? :messenger_grimmacing_ I was hoping that was the case.
So, if i didn't understand it wrong, for me to play my PS4 digital games i need a Harddrive with all my PS4 games in it, or i need to keep my PS4 for downloading the games and make the transfer.. Fuck

EDIT: Please tell me that i get it wrong and the "Installing PS4 digital games" part is what i ment

That is a lot of assertions. You could also just realize that games with locked frame rates will show no noticeable effects.

Can someone explain ps5 boost vs ps4 pro enhancements? Shouldn’t the ps5 max out back compat titles?
In theory yes, but despite the architecture's being similar they're not the same and developers would have to go in and update some settings.

I'd almost alwaysbe happy with a resolution and framerate boost.

They explicitly said you can access your compatible PS4 library after logging in.

No, the option is there to transfer from PS4 to PS5, but this is not the only way.
You can simply access the store and download it directly.

Install a PS4 digital game on a PS5 console
  1. Select game library from your Games home.
  2. Select the game you want to play.
  3. If you haven't already downloaded the game, select Download.
  4. The game will install automatically. Depending on the game, you may have the option to copy and play a portion of the game right away.

Based off what Sony have said it's pretty much the only conclusion you can come to. If your "boost mode" is so "powerful" it breaks game code to the extent games can't automatically make use of it and instead need to patched in for "select" games then you're a noticeable step down on what MS is doing with their back-comp.

Take Sekiro for example, unlocked framerate on both the enhanced last gen consoles but framerate is unstable and basically hovers at 30s and 40s. Based on footage we've seen of the Series X Sekiro is at a locked 60 due to the new next gen power by default. The fact this might not be the case with the PS5 version and instead require From or whoever to patch it bullshit, they just aren't going to do that. You're basically going get the same stuttering PS4 pro version on PS5, that's unacceptable when your competitor is offering what they're are offering. I hope I'm profoundly wrong about this, but based on their messaging this is the only conclusion I think someone can arrive at.

I can understand Sony adopting a "paid patch" upgrade for their 1st party games. It's their IPs which are exclusive to the console so they have a monopoly and they want to protect their value. But to have this approach for 3rd party games is stupid imo.

Like I explained (and Cerny told everybody) before.

PS4 BC Mode: Hardware legacy mode, 99% of the games works, no test required.
PS4 Pro BC Mode: Hardware legacy mode, 99% of the games works, no test required.
PS5 BC Boost Mode: Hardware native mode, only tested games works and some needs patch (games after July 8th are required to work and be tested by own devs).

But the FUD here was unbelievable.

Sony & AMD did an amazing job making the APU being hardware BC compatible with PS4.

I found this leaked slide, I think you'll be happy with the unannounced mode:

Checkmate, MicroPoo.

Is it safe to sell my PS4 before my PS5 arrives?
I just have to log out from my account on PS4 before i sell it? Or should i do anything else?
Some answer to this good man because I'm in the same position, I'm holding my ps4 pro but I want to sell it in order to get a PS5. but my library it's pretty extensive and I don't want to miss any game (at least I got none of the lists of no supported)

If that list of incompatible games isn't growing up, you're pretty safe.

What you’re insinuating is essentially the original plan for XB1, limiting used games behind DRM and an online connection.

Can you imagine if PS5s BC was only enabled for online users? That would be nightmare PR.

It’s a hassle but at least I can pass my disc on to a friend and they can play the game without any issues.

No but it's still a form of DRM on Sony's part; if you want to play that PS4 game with the disc copy, the disc must always be inserted in the system.

You can only get around that by copying the game's contents to a drive, but that forces the user to either save drive space and keep the game in their system at all times when they want to play (better hope the disc isn't lost or gets cracked), or eat up some drive space to install it digitally.

Actually now looking at it, is there anything said about installing a PS4 disc game digitally to PS5? This:

Transfer digital games from a PS4 console to a PS5 console
  • You can transfer digital games and saved data from a PS4 console to a PS5 console using WiFi data transfer.
  • You can access PS4 games on a PS5 console directly from a PS5 extended storage drive.

and this:

Install a PS4 digital game on a PS5 console
  1. Select game library from your Games home.
  2. Select the game you want to play.
  3. If you haven't already downloaded the game, select Download.
  4. The game will install automatically. Depending on the game, you may have the option to copy and play a portion of the game right away.

Don't seem like they are pertaining to installing PS4 games from disc onto the internal storage or connected expanded storage. Maybe someone can provide some clarification?

It stuck to me your usual concern trolling.

As a potential customer, I'm literally just asking questions. Why are you so offended?

why would Sony review their own games?
If I said we would like to see performance comparisons you would reply "why would Sony compare their games to the competition?".
I'm asking them to make the consoles available to independent reviewers like most manufacturers do so close to a release. Part of transparency.

They already said/tested 4000+ games and upcoming PS4 after July 14 have to be compatible for PS5 so it doesn’t make sense for that list to grow so I think that list is locked.

All PS4 games run from a HD, they have never run from a BD disc. Is that what you Are wondering?

That's pretty cool Sony, but what if I were holing on playing Hitman GO Definitive Edition to experience it in 4K 60?

EDIT: Jokes aside, sounds promising. They kinda hint at the fact that more than those 10 games might have some minor issues still, but I'm certain that 99% of famous games will work absolutely fine.
