So people that use direct remote play on vita with Ps4 how does pstv's remote play stack up?

When I use remote play on my vita in my house it's great. Hoping pstv will be just as good.
Poorly. PSTV remote play is laggy compared to PS Vita. And yes, I have tried wireless, wired, direct on, and direct off. My PSTV is practically on top of my ps4 too so I shouldn't have any issues.

No problems with remote play...so far. Using a direct connection since I have it close.

Darn. Power went out while unit was in standby...twice. it welcomes you with the screen to put the date/time. No errors but still sucks, since it's not even a day old.

No issues with Remote Play for me. I played for about half an hour and it worked and looked great. My PS4 is in my living room which is downstairs and my PSTV is in my bedroom upstairs.

I am in the camp that had no issues with remote play. Granted, I think people who stated issues are not wrong either. It seems to be a "Your Mileage May Very" type of deal. It is probably best to wait until a 2.0 version comes out before committing to it if you only care about the streaming part.
My main problem I have with people is things either have to be a 0 or 10. I would rate it about a 7 myself mainly missing points for a bad menu system, some key games not having a patch to work, and some compatible PSOne games not working. I think 8/10 of my library works on it.

What games did you try out for Remote Play?

Just picked up one of these, set it up, updating now. Looking forward to finally finishing the trophies on Danganronpa 2 on a decent sized screen.

Although, man, I would think they would have given the OS an overhaul.

I did some remote play with Destiny, PS4 wired, PSTV WiFi with direct connect. It basically felt like it was playing at 24fps instead of 30. Was playable but less then ideal. Towerfall felt a lot better. I tried using the controller synced to the PSTV while using the TV the PS4 was hooked up to and it didn't seem like there was any lag, so there might be room for improvement in future patches if they can work on image/audio decoding.

Remote play works well enough that I'll be keeping my PS4 in stand by from now on in case I need to use my PSTV.

I do want to mention, 2D games look freaking great. My PSTV is on a 720p TV so its native, but games like Spelunky and Muramasa look outstanding.

I kind of want to buy this, but just so I'm clear on one thing, I don't have to actually already own a Vita to play Vita games on the Playstation TV right?

Like, if I bought this and then bought Persona 4 Golden off of PSN, I'd be able to play it off the Playstation TV without actually owning a Vita?

Correct, you can buy retail or on PS3. Not sure if you can buy Vita/PSP on PS4 yet. Vita ownership is not necessary to use the PS TV. However, you do need a controller and memory card which the bundle provides.

Note: PS Store on PS TV is a bit incomplete so that is why I said retail or PS3. Like for example, you can play Capcom Reloaded and Remixed despite not having access to it on the PS Store.

So this thing seems to be not good with remote play at all and is just a Vita machine

Good enough for me.

Can anyone tell me how much improved Killzone Mercenary is with a DualShock 4? Does it give you a huge advantage online?

I can't see myself paying $100 to buy a PSTV without it having at least Netflix and HuluPlus. If it ever goes down to ~$50 I'd jump on it right away.

Ugh, that's annoying, considering the only Vita game I want to play on this thing is Persona 4 Golden. >_<

But thanks for the responses. I think I'll just get the console and the memory card as opposed to the whole bundle.

Doesn't the PStv have internal memory though (1gb I've heard) so you don't actually need a memory card if you want to get P4G physically.

The Playstation TV has 1GB internal memory for save games. So if you really just want to play Persona 4 Golden, you could buy the card version. Not sure if there were any important patches for the game though but I think there weren't.

How is PSP compatability for Japanese games? I like my PSTV so far and I am thinking about picking up a second one to use as a dedicated JP box so I can play stuff like Darius Burst, Gunhound EX and PSP2: Infinity on my TV, provided that they actually work.

Yeah, that's true. Memory card is only really necessary if you want to download things. Content manager wireless works well enough to push saves onto your computer if you start running out of your 1GB of space as well.

So i picked this up for $80 (early preorder deal on amazon, then price guarantee for another $10 at some point) but my wife snagged it and told me this was supposed to be a Christmas present.

I have fantastic remote play with vita, and while I do want to remote play ps4 with this I mainly see it as a way to play psp/ps1/vita games on my tv on occasion.

Is it worth opening the thing and aggravating my wife claiming I need to 'test' this, or should I just let her wrap it up? Sounds like, at worst, I may have issues getting RP set up correctly, but... I'm okay with that (I think).

If nothing else, I'm glad that the PS TV gave me an opportunity to try Pix the Cat. That game alone made the purchase worth it from my wife's perspective.

Japanese account? Pretty sure it has everything that's on PS Store.

By December it should have enough updates to play a decent amount of games, operate better, and have more apps available. Unless there is something you must play now I would say wait. You'll have a better device in a month without lifting a finger.

Plus, I would not anger the wife.

With how poorly the PS4 has been supported in the app department, I'm being very cautious about this.

I want to pick one of these up mainly as a PSP/PSOne machine, as well as occasional Vita use. However I'm in the UK - does anyone know if the games on the store are the 50Hz versions, coz if so I'll be looking to import a US PSTV instead.

Also, if I do have to import, I have a UK account for my Vita - can I have more than one account on the PSTV? So use my UK account to play my Vita games and login with a US account to play PSP/PSOne games?

The firmware it ships with is exploitable, which allows full PS1 and PSP compatibility, as well as GBA, GBC, SNES, NES etc. game playback. Oh and laggy N64 :p.

More info here:

Just like a regular Vita, no account swapping. You will not have to import, you can use a US account on a UK Vita TV.

I don't think importing a US PSTV changes anything, it's all about what store you attach the account to. So no matter where you buy your PSTV, if you attach your UK account it's a UK PSTV. The way around that is creating a US account.

50Hurtz me if I'm wrong.

Ok, so I never did this on my vita because I need my vita up to date... but... I'm definitely willing to do this to my (christmas) PSTV.

Can you download games from your DL list? Is there a thread on this?

There is a thread about Vita hacking yes:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=490040&page=92

You can download games from your DL list, but it only works for a limited time after a new firmware is released. The only 100% all the time working option is to transfer the games via a PS3. The methods are outlined here:
http://wololo.net/2014/10/15/minecraft-vita-is-out-now-a-guide-on-how-to-get-minecraft-or-any-game-on-a-lower-firmware-for-dummies/

Article on the exploitability of the Vita TV's stock firmware:
http://wololo.net/2014/10/14/ps-tv-ships-with-firmware-3-20-is-capable-of-using-tn-v-psone-loader/

I'm certainly more likely to pick up a Vita TV after this good news.
