PlayStation Vita is fully backwards compatible with almost all PlayStation Portable titles released on the PlayStation Network. Sadly, as the device does not have a UMD drive, those titles that are UMD only will not be supported. For those who've purchased PSP titles on PSN previously, you can migrate all of your content onto the new device.

Hmm, but Vita has an extra analog stick. What can that be used for? Good question, thanks to the Vita's backwards compatibility you can re-map buttons, and games fully patched can use the right analog stick like it was always there! Not only that, PSP games played on Vita will be subject to bilinear filtering and will look better than ever before!

Hmm, but you own a lot of UMD games. What are you going to do? Well, for a fee you can transfer each of those UMDs into a PSN copy with the UMD Passport Program. Please note, not every PSP game was released on PlayStation Store, and not every PSP game on the PlayStation Store will be in the UMD Passport Program. Please check here for a full list of participating titles.

So games like Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep will never be playable on the Vita?

I am really digging that Gravity Daze demo, played it three times in a row.
Animates and moves so silky smooth. I'd wish the same team made a Vita Jet Set Radio. :(

Anyone interested in trading Vita soft?

I have Army Corps of Hell. Willing to do a straight trade for Uncharted/BlazBlue or the ninja game (Shinobido?).

Shoot me a PM ;)

Taking Takao's advice I've decided to ask Yoshida about trophies on used games and he was kind enough to answer me:

So when will we get the list of games for the US UMD Passport program? I'm scared it won't be pretty as some licenses of localized titles probably expired already.

I have a good feeling we won't get the Passport program at all.

Yeah, I've got the same feeling. Hopefully SCEA will have post a huge sale on all the PSP games available on PSN, similiar to what they did in the fall of '09 when the GO launched.

I really want to pick up Resistance Retribution and 3rd Birthday for my Vita.

And regarding Birth by Sleep, isn't it one of the most technically advanced PSP games? Therehad to be some technical issue as to why S-E has never released it on PSN, right?

Isn't type-0 more advanced than bbs? And that has a PSN release?

Despite what SE says, I think it's pretty clear that there's legal issues with Disney denying a digital release of BBS.

I have played about two or three hours of Army Corp of Hell. It is fun and definitely gets more interesting in terms of strategy in later stages, but the graphics are pretty weak. I am only on stage 10 or so, but there has been very little change in terms of the background of the stages. You just move from floating rock to rock fighting different types of demons with different types of traps. I like the heavy metal music but I could see some people rushing to the options screen to turn it down.

After playing a ton of iOS games over the past few years, I think it should be priced around the same, may be at around the high end of the range at 900 yen or so.

Shinobido 2 : Revenge of Zen : 4/10

Uncharted Golden Abyss : 8/10
+ a real Uncharted in the pocket
+ best graphics on a handheld ever
+ the narrative
+ a nice showcase of the Vita features

- the lack of open spaces

Sounds like good news, for me, anyway.

Absolutely hate the open spaced battles in U3 when you can barely tell where you're being shot from.

I can't really trust reviews of games like Shinobido or Dynasty Warriors, but LOL @ Scamco getting crapped on.

The main complains of Shinobido 2 is that is very easy (specially because that "autokilling QTE") and that there are too few scenarios, and they're reused in a lot of different missions.

All the other complains (blind guards, problems with camera/controls) I'm so used to old Tenchu games that I don't think that this will be a problem. About too few scenarios, original Tenchu had 10 scenarios. If there is a option to choose several difficulty levels, I don't see any problem.

I looked some info in Gamefaqs, from Shinobido 2 players:

Guy comparing Shinobido 2 with Shinobido 1 said:
I started from normal mode, I’m on chapter 3 right now, and here are some differences I noticed so far.

Changes I don’t like:
1. no mission editor or garden
2. no Nageshi Pavillion or Ryonin Market
3. no dog house
4. only voice mail, no animation mail

Changes I like:
1. The new shrine map, gorgeous and complicated, became one of my favorite locations immediately.
2. Fukuro. Imagine you escort an oxcart from the sky. lol
3. Instant kill is awesome, too. It won’t make this game too easy (at least first few rounds), more like a triumph card to me. You could choose not to use it anyway.
4. Counter attack. This one is difficult for me! But if you master it, it could be very useful in protect missions, or if you want to play with enemies.
5. Enemies seem smarter. They chase you further, their eyesight is better, and the rooftop isn’t always safe anymore, ninjas can jump onto higher rooftops even when they carry bodies! Enemy numbers are more than the first game. For instance, we have to kill nine yojimbos in a smaller map like Phantom Forest. And enemy positions and patrol routes are all different from Imashime,

Other changes:
1. no rain
2. there’s only one kind of village girl
3. the Amurita soldiers don’t sing the silly Amurita song anymore, what a pity lol
4. alchemy values are different basically. It is said we still have limited weapons, but I haven’t made it yet.
5. Time limit is not always 30 minutes; simple mission is only 15 minutes.
6. Zen’s HP, AP, DP, grappling hook length, and Instant Kill gauge will increase slowly by leveling up, which means we can’t buy grappling hook anymore.

You could turn off/on the rear touch pad if you want, and you could always use L shoulder button to lock enemies. I’ve read the IGN review too(of course Shinobido is not Tenchu, the review is biased), the controls worked fine for me anyway, and we could adjust camera angle by using R analog stick. Usually I don’t care about magazine reviews or scores, but Famitsu gave Shinobido 2 a silver award, not very high but better than my expectation.
It’s still an addictive game. I can’t stop playing lol. Thank you for reading my long post! :)

Touché, I forgot about Type-0. Does it also offer a "high performance" mode like BBS wherein it will use the full power of the PSP's processor?

Unlike bbs which forces low performance mode in multiplayer, but works on all psp models, type-0 will not allow multiplayer on psp-1000s.

Not sure if type-0 has performance toggles.

Pretty logical to assume if the vita can run type-0, it should be able to run bbs, hopefully one day well see cc and bbs on the us psn.

I thought Crisis Core was up on the US PSN?

Craziness. S-E managed to get all of their 2011 PSP games on PSN, but can't be bothered to put CC?!

I played the shit out of that game. Loved it so much back in 2008.

The rumor is that there's a piece of music that's preventing CC from going onto PSN. This same piece of music was missing from the digital release of CC's soundtrack.

That doesn't explain why some of the other SE PSP games are missing (Star Ocean, Valkyrie Profile, etc.).

Got BlazBlue today. It's really nice having a portable version of this game with non-shitty graphics! :p

Immediately went online and did some quick ranked matches. I got 0 bars, but the matches were playable AND I actually managed to find matches much quicker than in Marvel, which is a good sign. I think UMvC3 looks more impressive on the Vita screen though.

L'autre point qui rassure vient du contenu offert par le titre. On est ici devant un véritable épisode d'Uncharted, pas un jeu mal fini et vite expédié pour coller au calendrier de lancement de la PS Vita (suivez mon regard).

Hmmm should I believe GAF or Gamekult. Gamekult thinks it doesn't seem like a rushed game that was pieced together quickly for launch while many gaffers think this is the case (controls, resolution).

At least they don't complain about the controls too much in the review. They agree on the fact that it uses a lot of gimmicks to showcase the Vita's features but say that at least these mechanics are functional.

For now it's going to be on my maybe pile.

And hey guys...did I just brick my Vita?

I plugged it into my PC for the first time and it installed the drivers successfully, but now I can't turn it on. The PS button is flashing purple.

EDIT: After plugging it into an outlet and holding down the power button for 30 seconds, the light turned orange and I was able to start it. What the hell was that?

I don't think the game is terrible but I'm not really enjoying that much, it's the reason I bought a Vita in the first place too.

It definitely does have amazing GFX and is a great showcase for a lot of the Vita's features, but it feels to me that it's messed up the core elements: The combat really pales in comparison to the home console versions - again it's not terrible, but it's definitely not as good. I'm quite far in I think and I've yet to come to any impressive set pieces, and it's the first uncharted game where the dialogue has started to bore me, they do talk for far too long and it feels much more frequent than in the home console versions.

The main sticking point for me is the combat, it's what i enjoy most in the series but this version just doesn't get it right IMO.

So what's the lobby like in Hot Shots Golf 6? I want to try it but my Vita keeps giving me errors. Can I type in both English and Japanese, or will it default to my Vita's language settings and only give me that keypad?
