PlayStation VR Thread 2: Reloaded

Well this didn't come cheap but after playing the demo, I couldn't not add this to my growing collection of physical PSVR games and share abit. The demo (from PSVR demo disc 2.0) really didn't do it justice either but Rez Infinite lived up to the hype. The premise being pretty loose, as far as I could figure out, you're a 'being' trying to save a digital world from extinction in a series of cycles that sees a world flourish and then experience drought, only return to prosperity.

Although the premise is pretty loose, Rez Infinite with its vector graphics, quick directional camera changes and shooter on rails mechanics, is an assault on an experienced VR gamers senses. I played through the first 4 worlds so far and was pretty much thrown into a trance by the visuals Rez offers, as well as taking in the hypnotic soundtrack. As a long time gamer and someone who has been into PSVR for almost a year now, its games like this that excite us in the present and for the future of VR.

For me personally this was like a mashup of Thumper, a random Atari game with a pretty open to interpretation story and something out of Tron. I'm obviously late to the party on this game but glad I went back to rediscover this gem.

There are alot of big games about to come to PSVR, Blood & Truth, Everybody's Golf VR, Vacation Simulator and a handful of anticipated games from smaller studios, if you're looking for something to pass the time until then, give Rez Infinite a shot. Its abit more affordable digitally and will likely dazzle you as it has with me.

Any of you fine folks played the Zone of the Enders PSVR version? Is it any good? I love mecha games and there is still a mecha-shaped hole in my PSVR library, wondering if that would be the best way to fill that?

IMO it's a classic and I had no trouble re-playing it in VR from start to end. Gameplay wise it still holds up, with lots of fast-paced action and tight controls.

That being said it didn't "wow" me in VR due to its PS2 roots. I'd still like to see other PS2 games ported to VR like the Ace Combat trilogy for example.

The game is often discounted so I'd say play the demo version in the meantime to see if you like it, then get it on sale.

Archangel is another mech-style game but plays totally different: your mech slowly walks through a set path and you only need to shoot everything in sight.

I bought a PSVR v2 not so long ago, mainly to play RE7 but the game make me sea sick really quick. I wanted to ask if this feeling is going to fade away at some point ? For now, I try to play it 2 or 3 times a week but everytime at about 20 minutes in I start to feel Dizzy so I stop. I also tried GT Sports and it's the same and worse actually because after one lap I feel like throwing up. So far, only Bound seems to be OK for me. So, I was a little disappointed with this whole affair and I had the idea to test out 3D movies. I own many 3D Blu-ray since I love 3D and in VR it's amazing (and it didn't make me sick at all). I had no idea that PSVR was that good with 3D. So, at least even if I can't play games, I'm pretty happy to enjoy VR with my 3D movies collection. Even if my TV (Sony ZD9) is pretty good with 3D, the picture is always a little dark but with VR the colors are vibrant, there's no ghosting, it's really great. Sony should really emphasize this function.

I can only tell you what worked for me.

I used snap turning, Smooth turning made me dizzy, I also took some travel sickness tablets about 20 mins before I played and didn't play if i was tired. I completed the whole game without any sickness using this method.

Definitely check out some games where the only movement in it is your own real-life physical movement. Games like Beat Saber, Job Simulator, ect. Even people with motion sickness problems can play those just fine.

The feeling comes from when the virtual body start moving forward while your real body is stationary. Your brain is just like yo wtf man I'm not moving but I think I'm moving. So if you start with some games that don't have that type of artificial locomotion, it's a good way to get used to playing in VR and might help the issues when playing games like RE7 later on.

It's good that you stop, never try to push through, it'll make you feel sick for hours on end. I hope you don't give up on RE7 and games with heavy locomotion like it, though. Just train yourself with stationary games first like Beat Saber, Moss, Super Hot, Dead Hungry, Blasters of The Universe, Tetris Effect, and the like. Then play the more intense games in short bursts like you've been doing. As soon as you feel just a little bit queasy, stop and play the day after. Little by little you'll see you can play longer each time.

I advise at least trying segmented turning. I know most people hate it but it helps a lot. Think of it as if when we turn our heads in real life, we don't really see a smooth motion, it's almost like our brain "blinks" for a milisecond when turning.

I agree with this, I never felt sick (luckily) but definitely disoriented after I bought mine last summer and played games like RIGS and Skyrim with full locomotion. The best way as mentioned is to start with stationary games, for me at the time were games like Job Simulator, Moss and Superhot was great for building up tolerance then gradually increasing play times starting in short increments then increasing play times in games like RE7, Skyrim.

I would think Astrobot would be another excellent game for you to find your 'VR legs' you are stationary but really need to look around the levels to collect everything.

It wont take long with this method for you to be able to find your VR legs, took me maybe a month before I could play anything for as long as I wanted. Ace Combat 7 is the ultimate test, if you can play that in VR without feeling sick or disoriented, you can play anything VR throws at you.

As gifgaf said, turn on snap turn. That's the only way I can play VR.

Yeah, I'll buy Moss and continue Bound and play a little RE7 2 or 3 times a week but I Don't think I'll play GT Sports in VR for now, the effects were too severe. As a child I was sick in my mum's car and GT Sports VR is doing the exact same thing to me 35 years later. :messenger_beaming:

Thanks for the advices everybody.

I watched Aquaman in 3D with the PSVR last night, it was amazing. I'm surprised that Sony doesn't push this feature more, especially now that most TV Don't do 3D anymore. A friend of mine didn't even knew he could Watch 3D movies with his PSVR.

It's one of the things that makes PSVR amazing! It's like a hidden feature. It adds alot of value if you own a PS4.

Clearly. Even though the definition is a little low, the perceived screen size and the fact that 3D on PSVR isn't dark or undersaturated and has no ghosting largely compensate.

The theatre in my town is of very low quality, so the image you tend to see on the big screen is akin to what you see via PSVR. Truly feels like I am watching a film in a theatre. The 3D is just a bonus :D

I still have an old version of the LittlStar App (Free VR porn)

Have turned of auto update for all software but every time I click on it an update begins so I have to immediately go back in the menus and stop and cancel the update that has started.

Bought two PSVR games recently:

Darknet: Boring and pointless and VR doesn't ad anything to the experience.

Surgeon Simulator: I like the idea but the controls are broken and made the game unplayable.

Beware of both games.

There's been a couple releases, a stealth one for me is BOXVR. I literally heard nothing about it till it showed up on the Playstation Blog. Pretty much anything boxing has me interested as far as VR goes.

I also see that Immortal Legacy came out, and looks pretty good. Anyone buy it?

I'm so damn behind. I still haven't even bought Moss or Astrobot yet. I'm waiting to see some sales on physical copies and I'll grab them both.

I tried the demo for that game Eden Tomorrow recently. I don't know if it's a bad game or just a bad demo. Just as it seemed like something worth doing might finally be happening, the demo ends. Before that it was a slow walking simulator.

Don't wait on Astrobot.

It goes on sale frequently (I think it's on sale now in the EU) but it's worth full price, easily.

I'm such an idiot for not jumping on it when it was $20 for a physical copy here. I know it's really good and it's not that crazy to spend $40 on it for full price, but I've been trying to reign in my budget a little bit recently.

My gut feeling is it'll come to ps plus in the next few months, can't wait to hear your impressions once you grab a copy.

Everybody's Golf, and Blood & Truth are out this month still right? Going to be expensive for me too!

I liked the demo a lot so I have no doubts about liking the full game. And yeah Blood and Truth is another one I really want but am hesitant about for $40. I guess I’ll see what people think of the length and stuff when it comes out.

The one good thing about being this far behind on my psvr games is I can pick up a bunch of the older games for cheap. I still don’t even have Beat Saber yet 😂

So I'm back in the PSVR game (I got an amazing offer). What games would you recommend that have come out in the last year or so? Previously Rush of Blood and Resi 7 were my favourites.

I can't get Move controllers in the UK at all at RRP. What's going on with them? So strange.

Astro Bot.
Beat Saber (Never played it but people seem to like it)

In recent memory, borderlands and wipe out VR are fun. That flying game is pretty cool too...ultrawings I think.

I actually have Wipe out from it's original release so that's good. I'll check out Ultrawings.

I never got Skyrim and I've heard that's got a fair few patches so I'll probably pick up that or Borderlands.

I love Rush of Blood so going to give The Inpatient a go as well I think.

I still think Skyrim is a pretty amazing VR game. It's kinda ugly, but your eyes adjust to the ugliness and you get really sucked in. If you've never played Skyrim or just barely played it, it could be one of the best VR game choices you could make. It's a huge and complete game with full VR motion controls (if you ever get the Moves). I highly suggest making an archery build if you do get it.

Ultrawings gives a really great sense of flight. When you get new planes, the gameplay is very satisfying. If you can get it cheap, it's very unlikely to disappoint. I say get it cheap because it is a bit on the simple side. The developer is making a new game that I bet will be much deeper. And it plays great on a regular controller because when the challenge starts coming in, the Moves start sucking.

I've heard The Inpatient sucks. It's a shame because I loved Rush of Blood too.

Borderlands is another one of those very complete games fully realized in VR, but I don't know if I highly recommend it or not. I never tried it with the standard controller or even the Moves. I only played it with the Aim. There's just some general awkwardness and not having co-op made it feel like a pretty lonely and simple experience to me.

There's a table tennis game called Racket Fury that the developer said would be getting an online multiplayer update in a month or so. It reminds me of the table tennis game from Sports Champions, which was awesome, so I have my eye on that one.

Skyrim I got the plat on the 360 but haven't touched since so all the DLC will be new.

I've got Astrobot, Wipe-out, Doom, Skyrim. With one game left to go for now. Firewall looks interesting.

Rush of Blood, Job Simulator, VR World's, Star Trek, Sprint Vector and Resi 7 from last time.

Daft question but is the aim controller a shell and the move controller slots inside? For some reason that's what I always thought and now I'm doubting myself lol.

I think you have the ps3 gun in mind, you would put the move controller and the navigation controller in the gun, wii stuff style. The aim is its own deal.

I forgot that I even have Firewall....still need to try it!
