PokéBOMB The Next Generation: New Mega Evolutions and ORAS Details

Lightning Rod works good as a normal ability, ala Manectric. You can take advantage of it on a surprise switch and then Mega Evolve. As a Mega Evolution ability, it might as well not be there at all.

Brendan's different skin tone indicates customization (At least that aspect) may still be there.

If so, please, God, let me switch from those awful duds. May especially, what the fuck is with that dress? It looks like it should be in the bedroom, not on a kid going on a Pokemon adventure. Real fucking downgrade from the previous design.

Ancient Deevolution seems to have the same animation as normal Megalution, except Groudon produces rocky pillars and Kyogre a huge wave

New Mega-Evos huh? That means a major update for X & Y is confirmed.

It's par for the course for new entries in the same generation to not feature full compatibility. It's part of how they drive sales of the new versions. X&Y probably aren't getting squat.

Team Magma looks like a bunch of nerds, they'd all get their asses kicked by Archie alone, no need for that other huge pirate guy.

It's worth pointing out that the wetsuit redesigns for the protagonists make some sense considering Hoenn is a tropical region that's half water.

You know, suddenly his stupid hat sorta makes sense. It's like a bike helmet.

The only thing I really dislike about the new main characters are the frills on May's top. It's supposed to be a sports tank top not some sort of bedtime pajama top.

Of course there'll be customization. You should be expecting more than in XY, not less.

Gamefreak, if Wallace is the Champion again instead of Steven I swear to god....

Don't get your hopes up. There's no reason for them not to follow the Emerald story, especially since putting Wallace back as Gym Leader would mean retconning Juan, which is pretty unlikely since he appeared in the PWT as a Gym Leader and Wallace showed up as a Champion.

Not irrelevant, just disappointing. Thunder Wave immunity is nothing to write home about, especially when Mega Sceptile wouldn't switch into the most common Thunder Wave users.

Also, it's a completely different case with Zapdos; it takes neutral damage from Electric moves, so the extra immunity is pretty a big deal.

It doesn't really gain any more switch in opportunities. It already hard countered the hell out of Rotom-W with that quadruple resistance to both of its STAB. LightningRod just gives a bonus from switching into Electric attacks in Singles. Not like hard countering Rotom-W is a difficult thing to do anyhow. Also, keep in mind that a good player will absolutely not use Electric attacks while Mega Sceptile is in play (and Mega Sceptile can't make use of the ability until it switches in). Rotom-W's are probably going to Will-o-Wisp or flat out switch out.
This makes no sense. "No one gonna use earthquake while gengar is in play." "No one is gonna use flame thrower heatran is in play." If the dude refuses to use electrical attacks while mega sceptile is in play then I successfully eliminated an option. Also rotom-W is pretty difficult to hard counter because nothing hard counters it, yet. If regular Sceptile switches in on Rotom-W and it does volt switch then welp. Mega-Sceptile however stops that move from working with lightning rod and can stay in on rotom-w, free. Switching in on volt switch and rendering the move useless is an additional opportunity

And I just noticed Team Magma are all light skinned and Team Aqua are all dark skinned, time to take this rivalry to the next level

Yeah, we need customisation. Characters look awful and their attire is disgusting.
Seriously, I do not see these growing on me; these are the worst main character designs in the entire series.

Steven does look great though, too bad he's probably not the champion. The aqua/magma redesigns aren't bad either.

The real winners in all this is Team Aqua.

Their redesigns make them look so much better especially compared to the lame Team Magma ones.

Ugh, I hate the Brendan and May redesigns. Why redesign them yet keep Steven the same. Redesign was so unnecessary. Brendan looks so weird with brown hair, wish it was black. Lol at Archie getting a major tan.

The mega evolutions look boss as fuck, and Sceptile gets to be yet another dragon with 4x ice weakness. :P

Might actually get this game now. Hopefully they improve the rival battles so your main rival just doesn't give up halfway through the game. Also please don't redesign the Battle Frontier guys and Wally.

A swimmer with toothpicks for arms? I think they're trying to bring across a cyclist vibe since RSE were the only games to feature 2 kinds of bike, which was an awful idea and it's a shame they're bringing it back.
Oh yeah also that, why everyone is so freaking skinny? Look May's legs and then look the ones of this wannabe for example.
Hell even Steven's trousers are ridiculous at how adherent they are.

Brendan doesn't look very different from his Emerald design other than the fact that he isn't wearing loose shorts with pants under them anymore, he also looks more like a cyclist than a swimmer. May's design is pretty similar too, she just had her bandana turn into a head band, her shirt is sleeveless now and instead of wearing a tiny skirt she has shorts.

Yeah you are pretty much blind, RS->E is a minor design change RSE->ORAS is pretty much a "fuck it let's put totally different people in (not so) similar clothes"
I guess that's what you get for being excited about a game, as soon as they show you a disgusting thing it pretty much kills the game for you.

I'm glad that you can formulate a counter argument that is more than "You're high" or "You're blind", it makes for great discussion.
Also as far as the non clothing complains they put these characters in the XY artstyle, literally everything you listed as a problem was there in XY.

I agree. Volt Switch is super annoying, since it's all about momentum. Lightningrod stops the Rotom trolling dead cold.

Lightningrod ain't Speed Boost, but they can't all be winners (lest they risk getting the banhammer).

It's Gamefreak, the kings of removing well received features for no reason at all.

Also, it can't be following Emerald because it's two versions again: Team Magma and Groudon will be in Omega Ruby, Team Aqua and Kyogre are in Alpha Sapphire.

Yeah, they actually look like tropicans now

HGSS had Crystal stuff to you know

Holy shit. Swampert went from L to King Status.

Also , oh the character designs are way less poo.
I'm down with that, now that thing is super a hat though, I wish they went with the black hair like from the manga.

It would be interesting to see if you could customize the characters and take the hat off.

Ah but this time it's different. Form changes added in later games were never in-battle changes to stats, ability and types. These are.
Not that I'm particularly thinking there won't be a patch, but does that really matter? Damage calculations are still done on the attack host, so it doesn't matter if the other side has the information or not.

The Mega Evolution sphere thing exists in XY, so theoretically they can still do the entire Mega Evolution sequence with the text and just use the original model.

It's not really that much different from putting the Griseous Orb back into your bag when turning WiFi on, though.

I'd like to see it, don't get me wrong. But when they've already gone on record to say that they're not going to patch in anything significant to X/Y and they're playing their old card of adding new forms in subsequent games of the same generation it feels like deja vu. Changing how you trigger the form doesn't really mandate changing their stance on compatibility.

You really need to calm down. At the very least, ORAS Brandon is wearing less silly clothes than the emerald one.

It's not like you could obtain the pokemon but it would be good just to have compatibility to have them in the other game.

Man, I thought I was pessimistic.

I'm sure they'll find a way to combine the stories in a way that still results in fighting a single legendary. It just might not be that good or make much sense.

She's dressed like a bicyclist like Brendan... In these remakes you actually play as Team Magma or Aqua trying to stop Brendan and May's Critical Mass from taking over the roads.

Mega Sceptile is just asking to die with those weaknesses ugh >_> I main him in X. And really lightning rod??? T_T
Also agreed on the Charizard X wank off. One of the best things imo about Charizard Before XY was that not only was he a great pokemon with an awesome design but its not like you saw one all the time in the games content. It's every freaking where now.

Good point. I can't wait to find out what its stats and possibly altered movepool will be.

I think we can all agree that for once these character designs are actually superior to the originals.

Apparently you haven't been reading the thread LOL

Brendan looks kinda weird I guess, but now I can actually tell it's a hat so I'm alright. May's fine.

Well, the chara designs look awful (sujimori art is nothing like it used to be).

However, the megas are looking really good. Hoping to use Mega Swampert :)
