I'll be buying a ps5 day one (assuming I get a preorder). I won't buy a xsx simply because I own a gaming pc and xbone s. I have no incentive to purchase the product and I like the specs/design of the xsx.

Playstation 5, that's due to the confidence I have that will be worth my investment. the games that have been coming out as of now on ps have been the most fun. Goty for me has been Ghost of Tsushima lately. I really wanted xbox to come out with a good presentation but left me unimpressed but as a service like netflix...it's not a bad deal.

The PS4 Pro has been out for 3 years now. Can you get it + 3 games for $250 or less right now? How about just the base PS4 + 3 games? I don't think so.

You have to wait for Black Friday sales. That's when the good deals come.
I got the PS4 slim + Uncharted 4 + TLOU:R + Ratchet & Clank for $250 a couple of years ago.
Last year, there was a PS4 slim + God of War + TLOU:R + Horizon Zero Dawn for $199.

I’m getting an XSX because I like having the best possible graphics and fidelity out of the Xbox consoles. However, how actually stupid is Microsoft. “You don’t need to buy a new Xbox”. What a great selling point. My brother wants to get a new Xbox (he’s casual and has a X1) and asked me about what games were shown at the event and what games we were getting for XSX. I don’t even have a response for him.

I don't know man... I just don't like being led with dangling carrot promises of better games for years and years and then failing to deliver time and time again (just wait 'til next E3!, then MS will show them!), so PS5 it is.

For me it was always going to be the PS5, but its more a matter of when.

GT7 is a major draw card for me, as much as a God of War game would be, so it depends on when they come out.

But what's more imminent is my PC upgrade, which will feature Zen 3 and RTX 3000 series card once they're out.

Why i tend to not believe people who claim not Xbox becouse the pc thing?
I hardly believe that actually they care and like Xbox games studios games that if they came only on console they will buy an xbox instead of a ps5?

Those polls are meaningless, on forums like this are only core gamers and especially GAF is like 80% pro Sony.
There is no way that PS outsells XB 6:1 not even with their Pc ports, xCloud and not so beautiful Halo the whole forum keeps shitting on.

This is correct. Looking at polls on other tech sites with votes numbering in the 10s of thousands the split seems to be about 50/50. People who think that a poll on GAF is relevant need to take a basic statistics course.

It's the same BS like dooming MS for that "pretty" Halo. Casuals didn't see the show and most casuals don't give a shit about Halo or other exclusives, but casuals are easily 80% of the console buyers.

These pool results really reflect the results of the Xbox show

Imagine if next month's State of Play shows Silent Hill, God of War or a new Uncharted

🤦‍♂️🤣

A poll with this small of a sample size on a heavily Sony biased forum means exactly two things: 1) Jack and 2) shit.

Sample sizes below 1000 that aren't randomly sampled have about the same statistical relevance as the steaming growler I just left in the loo.

Going by reddit numbers, there are 303,000 subscribed to PS5 and 33,000 to XBOX series X.

Which is 10:1

Gonna try to get a PS5 at launch, big fan of Demons Souls and generally enjoy Sony 1st party/exclusives more than the Xbox offerings

Sounds realistic for the number of fanboys and core gamers. But casuals don't like or follow a brand an social media. They just play their BF/COD/FIFA/GTA and that's it. Or do you honestly believe it Sony will outsell Xbox 6-10:1? Microsoft made every mistake possible this gen and yet it's "only" 2:1

Nothings really changed for me. XSX and Gamepass day one. I'll pick up the PS5Pro and PSVR2 when they drop.

I'm likely getting both at launch. I can't resist shiny new hardware. But I'm starting to lean towards waiting for a PS5 slim or Pro revision mainly because the launch PS5's physical appearance and massive size has not aged well to my tastes. The damn thing just looks super huge and tacky and if it has to be that massive I'd much prefer a black unit to blend into my entertainment center. Hopefully there will be a black one available soon. 🤔

That's not a poll and that type of comparison has zero statistical predictive value. Techspot among others have actual polls with 10s of thousands of votes which show a roughly 50/50 split.

I choose both.

I will wait a bit now on the new Xbox until stuff comes out shows me the series X is worth it because I don't think its worth it day 1. I didn't buy a current original xbox because they screwed that one up but if I can find a used xbox 1-X I might pull the trigger on that and use it for 2 years before getting a series X.

PS5 eventually also as I want a black one so hopefully they put one out soonish. My ps4 pro is perfectly fine for now.

I look at it as an indicator for how many people are actively interested in said products. And these are large numbers. By not considering this, you’re not seeing the whole picture.

It's only meaningless if you try to extrapolate these results to some kind of general consensus or buying patterns. If you take it for what it is -- a reflection of what GAF's sentiment is, at the moment -- it is valid. The problem only comes in when people try to extrapolate these results to the broader world.

These results reflect what GAF is thinking right now -- nothing more, nothing less. Just don't go beyond that, and you're fine. That is all the poll is intended for -- to provide a window to how GAF is feeling at the moment. I know, because I'm the OP, and that was my intention.

I understand that some people who don't have education in polling or stats will try to extrapolate these results to being reflective of purchasing patterns in the general population, but that would be invalid. As I've pointed out before, there may be little or no correlation (even a negative correlation) between how GAF feels and how the average next-gen console purchaser feels. We really have no idea.

And as I've also mentioned before, GAF's feelings on this issue have shifted around considerably, based on sentiments following some reveal event, so these results may correlate poorly even with what GAF itself does, come November.

Totally forgot about this reason. I don't own a VR visor for now because of downsides, but if Sony develops a good PSVR 2 on PS5 I'm buying it.

Oh yeah, we still haven't heard anything about VR. I wonder what's up with that.

Ok, let me fix this for you:
It's completey meaningless/uninteresting to me. It's like asking on a republican forum who they are gonna vote for.
For me it would be more interesting when normal people on the streets were asked after the price reveal, because that will be the most important factor for many casuals. I'm only interested in the big picture.

I wouldn't be surprised to see it rise to 3:1. Xbox has been continually screwing up throughout this gen. Slowly losing dedicated Xbox guys. And their actual game showings for Series X have been poorly received, probably losing them even more. You can say SonyGAF all you want, but the polls on here before were much closer.

And things must be pretty bad when you're relying on uninformed casuals to save your system. Oof.

I'd like a PS5 but I really see no reason to buy one until the 2nd generation of titles start to release in a couple of years, giving time for any hardware revisions to be launched as well, if it turns out there are any problems with the launch window hardware.

I'm just realistic. The vast majority of the console buyers are uninformed casuals who will mainly go by the launch price. Just like last gen when Sony lost 80 million PS2 customers and this gen when Microsoft lost 30 milloon 360 customers. And it's not MY system. I'm going for both as usual, but Xbox first.

So far.. none of them.i have yet to be wowed by both and leading more towards updating my pc.

I refuse to buy a console the first years it's out anyway.
Very few games, possible hardware faults etc.

I didn't say I'm not considering it. What I did say is Reddit has zero statistical predictive value. You're moving the goal posts. Polling vs Reddit (or "social media presence" in general) are apples and oranges.

When considering polls with actual statistical relevance, the GAF poll has literally none. The GAF poll is well below a relevant sample size and is drawn from a heavily Sony biased source.

As I said before, there are polls available on various tech sites with literally 10s of thousands of unique votes any one of which are far more statistically relevant and carry more predictive value than some nebulous concept like "product interest due to Reddit activity". Find out the predictive sales data for products on Reddit based on sub increase/activity and get back to me. I won't hold my breathe. Now, if we could show a massive "trend" difference between PS5 and XseX across all social media and somehow tabulate that then we might be able to come up with something relevant. But even in that case, SM activity is not the same thing as polling.

*Right now* the best available polling with thousands of votes on various tech sites seems to indicate a roughly 50/50 split. I'm not saying that's how sales will actually turn out (as, in my estimation, it's highly likely at bare minimum Sony's momentum from current gen will end up with an early 60-40 lead or thereabouts). But this other polling is better guidance than a tiny GAF poll or Reddit.

MS screwed up at the beginning of this gen, yes. "Throughout the gen", no. In fact, being the underdog motivated them to make several gamer/consumer friendly moves that arguably have put them on better footing than Sony in that regard. PS Now is a dumpster fire compared to Gamepass, which is legit an awesome value. And Xbox backwards compatibility is far superior.

"Losing dedicated Xbox guys". What? Is there evidence of this?

The Xbox games showing was overall pretty good. Aside from the undercooked, meme-worthy Halo Infinite debacle (what the hell were they thinking?), the games lineup was just fine with a few games I'm personally really excited to play. I'd rank the Sony June reveal slightly better only bc they didn't have a major misstep like HI. But it's not like they lit the world on fire either. Their showcase was merely "above average" as well.

As I've noted in other responses, polls with a sample size less than 1000 and which are not randomly sampled are not worth a roll of used toilet paper.

I'll likely be picking up both new consoles at launch. But, yes, "SonyGAF" is in full effect here.

Been with playstation since the ps1 and never had a reason to go Xbox, this remains true today. Playstation/Nintendo is the best combo.
It's interesting how this works. I have had every videogame home console ever except for a few of the more obscure ones, and I have been recently a Nintendo/Xbox gamer. I traded in my PS4 towards a 1X (had a deal. A traded in my launch ONE and PS4 for the 1X)and haven't looked back.

The switch has completely altered how I view the medium, and it actually angers me Microsoft, and especially Sony didn't go the same route as they have experience in the handheld arena. Besides that, I am actually starting to lean towards a PS5/Switch combo this time around (canceling my game pass and all that)as Microsoft seems to have learned nothing from the One launch were they needlessly shot themselves in the foot. The messaging is horrendous, and the games they have shown are super disappointing.

I am not without means, but I don't like just going out and buying just because I can. I want a reason, and of course a good deal. I know at some point I'll probably own both, but that launch excitement just isn't there for either.

I'm blathering now but that's Sony and Microsoft's fault. No price, no details, and low energy boring presentations have made me 'meh' so far.

What a piece of crap generational change over so far for me.

Im in the same boat. I gotta wait for a revision. That thing is huge, and funky looking

The PS5 is big, but as long as it is efficient at managing the thermals, and don't sound like a jet taking off all the time, I don't care how it looks. It's always function over form for me.

I will get both, the fact I am subscribed to game pass ultimate until late 2021, plus I am a Forza nut, because of game pass, I can buy the Series X in Amazon gift certificates, meaning it can be paid of as soon the price is announced, that plus the fact the elite 2 works means no additional cost in games/accessories, leaving November (most likely) to pay for the PS5 and a few games.

Budget wise it will essentially be like getting one new console in November, I can then pick and choose what console to get third party releases on depending on performance or any additional content tied to the console.

You value a poll because it fit your narrative, and can’t see the forest for the trees.

I would argue that reddit membership numbers is a better indicator because these people actively sought out the group and subscribed to be engaged. Long term interest.

Meanwhile, polls which we see all the time are a one and done thing. Opinions change from day to day. You took a snapshot of how people were feeling that week based on what Austin Evans said (for example).

All I’m saying is look at all the data. Polls aren’t the only thing. Google trends, reddit memberships, Facebook groups, polls, etc.. these are all things to track if you’re genuinely interested in statistics.
