Pretend for a minute you’re Tim Sweeney. How do you make EGS relevant?

Imo literally start cloning steam; add reviews, charts, community forums, mod workshops, steam-gram etc. Also built in an opt-in seamless library where it detects games already installed that can all be launched from it like the xbox pc app.

This would be pretty much what I'd need, but even then, EGS has tried to buy customers with free games for so long that personally I don't that "stink" can ever be cleansed. They'll always be in my mind the company that tried to buy consumers while devoting no time and resources to making a decent product.

The best incentive for me to buy from them regularly would be lower prices. Devs get a higher cut from purchases on EGS but prices are the same as Steam, why would I not buy on Steam? If they shaved a bit of money off of my game cost, I'm def buying more from Epic.

Look at Steam. Copy/Paste every feature, even the refund one.

Lower prices across the board to reflect the "not charging 30% to devs" propagation you pushed on the masses.

But of course, it was all smoke and mirrors snake oil for the consumer. Just like saving on physical logistics with digital was as well.

Were the Epic Store exclusives ever lower price than on Steam during the time they were exclusive? I did not pay attention.

I hear tell Steam has some policy that games listed on Steam must have the same price as other stores. So I guess only the exclusives would have lower prices.

No longer available. What was?
It's still there if you click, embed is broken for some random stuff like that. New Blood laughs about how Blood West (their own published game) was free on EGS over the holidays and sold like 200% more on Steam so EGS isn't as low value as thought but has great value boosting Steam sales :messenger_tears_of_joy:

All I know is that it's ripe bullshit pushed out to mask the self-serving interest at the end of the day. Salesmen, nothing more.

If a game I wanted was exclusive to EGS, then I might use it, but even then I would only use it for those games.
Personally I would just rather my library be in one place, and I have no confidence in EGS in the long term.

1. You are either clueless or simply dishonest. Even if EGS was a 1:1 copy of Steam with EXACTLY the same features, people would STILL stay on Steam because:
- thats where their game library, wishlists etc is.
- thats where their online friends are.
- thats where their skins and virtual items are
So no matter what EGS does, they cant win.

2. While there is obvious things they could make better, not everyone cares about all the Steam features.
Epic is playing the long game with kids growing up with Fortnite having their game library and friends on EGS

This is an accurate take.. If all they did was offer up free games to entice us over I'd be way more likely to use it..
but their game is to buy up major releases and make them exclusive to their highly unappealing platform it actually just makes me angry and less likely to use it.

Exactly. Beside that exclusive bullshit (which rightfully completely backfired) EGS brings just nothing useful to the table. 🤷‍♂️

And it's why the only game I've ever bought was Alan Wake 2

Paying for exclusives will just make me want to stay away.
Had they stuck to just giving away free games it would have worked. You'd build up a library and at some point find yourself playing there more often. But taking away games from steam and paying for exclusivity makes them dead to me. Will never support them now.

There is no point in discussing this when you are being deliberately dishonest.
The platform is PC, Steam and EGS are STORES on the PC platform. A game exclusive to the EGS Store is STILL available on your platform - PC!
That you choose to not buy that game at a specific store for various reasons is understandable, but any logical thinking human would agree that you are being completely irrational and that this is just a "YOU" problem.
You are angry because your own irrtationalty doesnt allow you to admit this illogical behavior is dumb, so you´re blaming others for this.

I buy games to play them, I dont give a fuck which store is selling me said game.
I´m not playing the store, im playing the games!

I bought Alan Wake 2 there because they funded and published it, rather than just handing them a hat of money. Fair play in my book. Like I would love to buy Bayonetta 2 and 3 on Steam, but Nintendo funded them so do as you will with it.

I won't buy Lords of the Fallen 2 there because they are simply moneyhatting it is as far as I know. It will be on Steam eventually with all the patches for like $15.

Honestly mimic a lot of the functionality and expectations on Steam that people love the most. Find ways to improve upon those things, etc.

Epic have their own franchises, why not release a new Unreal Tournament or Jazz Jackrabbit and make them EGS exclusive.
Man, I still absolutely hate that they were making that new UT and they just killed it off and swept it under the rug. I suppose they were worried about it competing with Fortnite as it was going to focus on user created content? I don't know. But I still think there was an area where they both could coexist. But Epic preferred to snuff it out and just put everyone on Fortnite. 🤷‍♂️

Okay, than I am also completely irrational. My irrational thinking always tells me to support stuff I like and to not support stuff which I dont like...you could call it "vote with your wallet". And sometimes this works even...so I take my chances.

I'm choosing the store of my choice, because I intend to keep and revisit games for the rest of time..
Once Fortnite loses it's luster.. EGS is gone

people forget that this shit is a long term game to be played. Steam took a number of years to truly take off and they had Half Life to drive players during the early days and then things like CS and TF.

Epic in similar situation with Fortnite. This stuff takes time to compound.

They got me onto their platform with free Total War Troy, and I bought the FF7 Remakes, Hogwarts Legacy, Kingdom Hearts games and NEO TWEWY on there. Apart from the late adoption of achievements and it being a pain to get my Dualshock 4 working with some games, can't complain.

It is fairly barebones but perfectly functional. Way better than the flaming piece of dog shit that is the Xbox PC app.

First of all he should shut up. He soured me with the way he approached things first talking crap about steam.

Second learn humility, those lawsuits against apple were bs IMO.

Third and most important: feature parity and innovation. As long as I can do shit in steam that I can't in EGS I don't have a reason to switch as a consumer. I couldn't care less about dev's cut.

they should just copy the functionality of Steam beat for beat.
every single user-side feature should be copied without exception, same for core functionality like how the download queue and library screen work

Yeah, if you steal, steal from the best.

I would first punch my own face so hard. Guy has such a punchable face, every single time I see someone posting a tweet of him saying something idiotic.

Oh, about Steam, don't know, complain like an idiot and then spend my money on hookers or something, wouldn't really care.
