Before I start, I would like to thank everyone for the awesome suggestions and support. Now that the official page was started, Obsidian has been providing more description in the survey page. the good thing is that everything that is required from us is set in stones and they've provided examples on what they're expecting. This is way different than original email and as thus I'll update you all with it.

Some changes require for the surveys to be restarted and as such a different strategy was thought of but as of now the current ways of surveying will stay.

Eventually, a burglar stole the ring and wound up taking it back to the Dyrwood.

Couldn't we all just discuss it in this thread? That way we could all come together (fight eachother) until we agree on something. You'd have to set a deadline for us. I don't think you should have to be doing a survey. First we do the survey, and then we have to vote, which means you need to make another survey and so on. We could hide posts in mail tags. Not optimal, but that way, all of GAF can participate.

Maybe something like this for the npc? :p

Character's Full Name:
Bishop Bann

Personality and Combat Style:
Describe the personality and combat style of your NPC. You're welcome to describe this in prose, or as a series of short descriptors.

Bishop Bann is a misterious being, talking in short and assertive sentences, he will never raise his voice, yet he will be heard from everywhere in the room. He judges others following his strict moral compass, often making enemies in the process. In combat, he will trust his hammer and engage in close combat.

Backstory:

Not much is known about his past, but for the last few years he has been protecting the [GAF Inn]. There are all sorts of rumors about what he is really protecting inside the Inn, but no one knows his true motivation.

What is left for the inn specifically? We have decided most of it seems like.

Colour scheme should be orange and grey right? Goes well with the name, orange fox, grey goose.

I think we should finalize the inn before dealing with anything else.

I am pretty excited for this. So far the choices sound good and I'm happy with the Goose and Fox name. I didn't even know this thread existed until a day ago though!

Do we know if backers to the GAF inn will get anything extra? Like be a name in a list on the wall or something? (Not just saying this because I pledged lol, but some people pledged a hefty amount and seems only fair they get an extra something).

Individually people won't be mentioned but the forum on its whole will be thanked I believe.

As far as Inn would go, we can definitely fill up the obvious ones like colors and circular logo.

What I was thinking is that the NPC class should strictly be an innkeeper so he can be awesome and unique. I want to fight the innkeeper and see if I can kick his ass and take his weapons lol.

The NPC is different from the inn keeper. I have sent in my personal NPC survey and it looks exactly like that.

Btw, any word on the deadline for this?

You get an NPC whose occupation you can decide, one of them being an innkeeper. I don't think there is a dedicated innkeeper with complete dialogue and whatnot. I'm not sure but if we can't choose innkeeper and NPC, I rather have one and that being the innkeeper.

Regarding deadline, Obsidian hasn't revealed a time but the quicker we submit, the quicker they'll have it in the game.

I see. I think the surveys you have already made and have the results for should stay. We just need to decide on the other stuff. I'm a bit surprised we don't have many interested GAF members. We have the chance to be a part of a great game. Come on people!

I will answer that big survey you posted from Obsidian after this post.

Having the inn keeper be a reference to Evilore and having the NPC being a reference to bishoptl makes sense to me. Then the unique item could be a fancy warhammer that the NPC uses, or, if the item is going to be separate from the NPC, a unique shield with the logo of the inn painted on it that the player can find hidden somewhere in the inn.

Hard decisions to make. Really should read more of the lore they have out already to try and make some decisions.

Evilore has already individually pledged on his own. Innkeeper named Bishop would be aweaome though!

Going by the survey details you posted, it seems like we can't specify anything about the innkeeper in the inn/tavern section, so I guess it would make sense to make a bishop innkeeper, and keep references to Evilore to the inn's background.

Exactly. Our NPC's occupation will be an innkeeper. I can't wait for what dialogue, battle moments and quests he will be assigned! :D

Here's what I came up with.

The following is the finalized description. NOTE: A lot of questions have a lot of drop-boxes with a lot of selections. Will take me a while to write it all down.

NPC

Character's Full Name: Feogan the Brave
What is your character's full (first and last) name?

Personality and Combat Style: Feogan the Brave is a man of honor and bravery. He is a great orator and often speaks to the people about the injustices in the world and how people can improve themselves and help others. Feoagan uses his Mighty Hammer of Banishing in battle. A hammer who's origin is still shrouded in mystery. All that is know is that it has holy powers that can banish creatures of evil.
Describe the personality and combat style of your NPC. You're welcome to describe this in prose, or as a series of short descriptors.
Example:
Flimbel is a wild man, talking in stuttering fragments and twitching irregularly, occasionally raising his voice to an unnecessary, booming volume. He interprets the actions of others in the worst way possible, taking offense when none is intended. In combat, he lets loose with big area effect spells, especially if they are flashy and fiery.

Backstory: Feogan is a mighty Paladin who travels the world far and wide to vanquish evil foes he has heard rumors about. When not fighting evil, whether they be beasts or men, he tries to spread the word on how to create a better world for everyone. He has always been seen as a very conservative person by many people, but many still listen to him and follow his ways. He might be the most beautiful man, but he has an aura of charisma around him that is hard to fend off.
Describe the backstory of your NPC. This one is a bit trickier, because we must ensure that the backstory matches the general tone and history of the world. We'll do our best to match the overall spirit of the backstory with something that works for the area in which the NPC is found, and for the type of interactions that players will have with your NPC, possibly including dialogue.

Select race. Human

Character's Desired Appearance: White hair and white trimmed beard. Blue eyes and light tan skin. Wears heavy armor and always has his hammer with him. His armor is grey and orange. When not in combat, he does not wear his helmet.

Inn/Tavern Name:

Example:
The tavern was founded by Jonas Sayne, a merchant from a noble background. Realizing that Defiance Bay lacked a place for the rich and powerful to meet to discuss business, Sayne commissioned the creation of The Discreet Gentleman in the business friendly Copperlane district. It is rumored a backroom of the tavern houses an entrance to the city jail dungeons.

Item

Item Name: Mighty Hammer of Banishing or Hammer of Banishing
What would you like the name of the item to be? Please avoid long names if possible!

Item Type
Please choose what type of item you are creating. Remember to be creative! A longsword may get lost in the shuffle, while a pair of unique gloves or a flail may stand out.
Select item type.
Weapon or Shield
Item Color
Select Color.
Light Yellow Orange

Item Concept: Extra damage against spritits. If possible, turn undead or banish evil type spell twice between resting.
Describe the basic concept for the item.
Example:
Extra damage against undead and can cast some sort of light or fire-based spell twice between resting.

Item Appearance: The Mighty Hammer of Banishing is the legendary weapon wielded by Feogan the Brave. This warhammer has ended the lives of many evil beings throughout the years. Although it is wielded by a man of justice, the weapon itself is an intimidating instrument of war. With its white glow, it also aids the wielder to see in the darkest dungeons, which has helped Feogan on many occasions. One would think that a weapon like this would have all sorts of blemishes, yet it looks like it has never been used in battle. The hammer is fairly plain with few ornaments except for a gem in the grip of the weapon. It is believed that the gem is the power of the weapon's mysterious powers.
Describe the appearance of the item. Please keep in mind that details won't always be visible in game, but may go into the description for the item.
Example:
Brass-plated plate armor with a black bear prominently enameled on the breastplate. It's dented and scratched in many places and generally looks well worn. Notably, there's a large puncture that has been repaired right over the heart. The pauldrons are flared a little more than standard plate armor.

Item History: Asked about the history of the Mighty Hammer of Banishing, Feogan the Brave has been reluctant to share any information about its origins. Only a trusted few know how he obtained it, but only one remains alive who knows the truth. Some believe that it was a gift from one of the gods. Others say that he received the weapon after entering an evil pact with a demon. The only thing that is known is that Feogan went on a mission many years ago and returned with the hammer.
Example:
The ring was crafted by an orlan priest. He infused the ring with the captured soul fragments of his enemies and gave it to his prince as a gift. The prince died in battle fighting against a large force of Aedyran mercenaries in the Dyrwood. For a while, it went back to the Aedyr Empire where it was on display in a public exhibit as a morbid cultural curiosity from Eir Glanfath. Eventually, a burglar stole the ring and wound up taking it back to the Dyrwood.

Please fill up the following surveys! I intend to submit this by the end of the month. Any further delay will affect the creation of the Inn so act fast! Be creative and be reasonable with selection. The texts/descriptions are optional for those that don't want to provide heavy descriptions.

I totally support the inn owner being called Evil Van Lore or Erol Von Evil

I'd say that's too on-the-nose. If you were going to go to a direct Evilore reference, I'd go for something like Maria Kovelle (That's an anagram of "Evilore Malka"), but it's not obviously such. That said, referencing a bishop directly works, given it fits nicely in a fantasy universe.

Going by the survey details you posted, it seems like we can't specify anything about the innkeeper in the inn/tavern section, so I guess it would make sense to make a bishop innkeeper, and keep references to Evilore to the inn's background.

So, a shady benefactor in the form of Maria Kovelle actually owns the inn, but the Bishop runs it?

(I have no actual say, here, I should point out; I funded independently. I'm just curious how it works out :)

I feel like a drunk dude with his head face down on the bar talking like CBOAT would be funny.

This is too good :D I laughed just at reading it, having it in game would be an amazing inside joke, which would not break the games lore - for non GAFfers it would be just a drunk guy.

I applaud this

Can we talk about our suggestions?

Item Name:

Bartender's Ring

Item Type.

Ring

Item Color

Dark Yellow Orange

Item Concept:

Bartender's Ring (cursed). A beautiful ring which you find in an unprotected chest somewhere in the back of the bar. It gives you +2 Charisma (equivalent D&D) and +1 Agility. But only if you stay in the bar. It is actually a trap against thieves and is a cursed item. If you go to the bartender before leaving the bar you will have gained his trust and he gives you a small quest (alternatively -10% on prices). If you leave the bar the ring wil change to -10 Charisma and you will need a curse breaker spell to take it off. Also all purchases in the bar will be 50% more expensive (forever).

Item Appearance:

A small ring with a beer mug engraved onto it. For some reason it feels like this ring wants to be seen.

Item History:

This ring was crafted by a special guest in the bar. A great wizard, Wujklan, said to be one of the bartender's closest friends.

This is the type of interesting items I would like to see in an RPG like this. Is this viable? If so, what kind of quest would you suggest for the bartender?

Neogaf Inn

Inn/Tavern Concept: Describe the basic concept of the inn/tavern.
An inn for nobles and wealthy businesses men, but anyone with decent enough clothing and a purse full of coins is welcome as long as they behave. In here many alliances have been forged and many contracts sealed: assassinations, arranged marriages, and other secret contracts.

Inn/Tavern Appearance: Describe the appearance of the inn/tavern.
The biggest Inn in the city, it houses some of the finest furniture from all around the world. Almost all of them with intricate patterns in different colors. The white walls are decorated with portraits of important people from history and banners of many kinds. There are VIP rooms in the back that are always booked, it seems. These backrooms are simpler with wooden couches and tables. These rooms are not used for their comfort.

Inn/Tavern History: Describe the history of the inn/tavern.
Having ended his mercenary career at the age of 34, Levi and some of his men bought an empty building in the Market District. It had previously belonged to a former nobleman. Thinking about what sort of clientele he was looking for, he came to the conclusion that it would be very likely that many of his former employees would do business there. The reason being that he was known to be a very discrete man, something that can’t be said about mercenaries in general. And so it came to be that the Golden Ale Fellowship was founded four years ago.

Haha, thanks. Oh, and great work on the surveys, these are much better than the other survey site.

I'm a bit bummed that people don't seem to give a crap about this.

I'll post my thoughts so people can talk me out of them by the 18th.

Inn / Tavern

Inn/Tavern Concept:

A rustic inn by the habor, its clientele prize it as a source of fresh news and heated argument, while its skeptics condemn it as a bog of gossip and paranoia.

Inn/Tavern Appearance:

A squat, brick building that seems ready to throw its elbows into its taller neighbors. The ground floor’s dominant feature is a large common room with many round tables but no stage or focal point beyond the bar. A shortage of chandeliers keeps the lighting low. Guests who scan the walls will find portraits of the city’s most famous figures—though the artists appear to have taken a good deal of creative license. Upstairs a small number of comfortable rooms are available for rent.

Inn/Tavern History:

The Goose and Fox was founded by Erol von Levi, an obscure scholar who desired a place where people from various classes and professions could gather, swap stories, and debate the issues of the day. Under Levi’s management, The Goose and Fox grew from a hole in the wall to a city institution with a fierce and diverse clientele. Just as the Goose and Fox’s fame began to spread beyond the city limits, however, Levi disappeared forever. Some say he was scarred by the tragedy of Brown Mountain and decided to travel the world. Others say he was abducted by angry patricians whose misdeeds were first made public at Levi’s establishment. But if you ask Bishop, the current proprietor, he’ll tell you that Levi is just sleeping, "waiting for half the world to die."

Inn/Tavern Color:

Dark Yellow Orange

Inn/Tavern Floor Type:

Wood

Inn/Tavern Wall Material:

Brick

Inn/Tavern Window Shape:

Round

Inn/Tavern Table Type:

Round

Inn/Tavern Artwork:

Portrait

Inn/Tavern Trophies:

A Little Bit of Each

Inn/Tavern Lighting:

Dark and moody

Inn/Tavern Room Type:

Luxurious (large bedroom with high class accessories) [obviously I would have preferred common (bunks and chairs), but that ship has sailed]

Inn/Tavern Exterior Sign:

Round

I really like the idea of the Banishing Hammer for an item. I'm also on board with a CBOAT -like figure facedown at the bar.

Oh boy.
:p

Let's just assume he is reading our posts, and continue to fill in the polls. That way, if he's still dead by the deadline, he can still submit the stuff.

Dont worry, I killed Roshan and gladly stole the Aegis.

With March 31st as deadline, we want to ensure this is done before March 1st. I would most likely speak with Obsidian over the phone (so nervous/excited!) and probably discuss whether they approve or disapprove of the selection don't by us.

Good luck, all! Keep on voting. Deadline: February 18th!!

P.S. I'll post all of the top selections here so people can read and get creative. I'll probably start that on a daily basis starting this weekend.

I hope I'm not the only one who doesn't like the idea of a ban hammer reference. That's the most generic forum meme you can go with.

I don't like the idea of just a ban hammer reference by itself but I wouldn't mind something like Bishop's Hammer or the Hammer of Banned Evil Ore.
