Download it from your PC and put it on a Flash Drive or Disc?

I had 4 different downloads going at the same time after picked a bunch of stuff from the store, this is after folding home auto start happened but I haven't been able to get it to download more than one at a time again so this might be some kind of bug, but ps3 was definitely downloading 4 different things at the same time on my system at one point.

For those having trouble with the download. Try to shutdown the console for about 10 seconds and reboot it and start the download again. I was getting the same error at 4% and it somehow resolved the issue for me. It even downloaded reasonably fast for me.

I think you may be mistaking this for something else. Between the time you click the download button and set it to background download, it will start downloading that piece of content and pause everything else that's in your queue. When you set it to BG, it goes back to the first thing in the queue.

So, when you go to your download list, you might see a couple things that have somewhere around 1% - 5%. It's not at the same time though, AFAIK.

Thanks! Turned system off for a couple of minutes, and afterwards was able to download it fairly quickly.

is there any particular reason why sony won't let me FUCKING DOWNLOAD THE FIRMWARE?? This is absolutely beyond belief! users shouldn't be expected to transfer the update from their pc to the self-sufficient console..

not for me. I tried severl times and it didn't work. So i finally found a link on the PS3 boards and downloaded it to my PC, transfered the file to my PSP, and hooked that up to the PS3, and did the update that way.

a pain in the ass, but at least it worked.

I do not recall having any instances where my DL has stopped or slowed to a crawl. I had a 5 MB line, and now a 10 MB, yet still no probs with FW's.

I can't grab the firmware either. I just tried and figured since I missed the initial DL period I would be okay. No dice, stuck at 4%. I'm sure it has something to do with Akamai servers or whatever Sony's using to distribute these files. It happens with Podcasts occasionally, the file propagates across the system and some of the servers only get a partial DL, so when you go to grab it you only get a partial. When you reboot or whatever you just happen to get a server that has the whole file, so you're okay. But it's a crapshoot, rebooting is no guarantee.

I'm pulling the file down on my PC now, I got the link from the terrible forums on the Playstation site. The first time I tried it on the PC I only got 10.1 MB, which is probably what the PS3 is getting when it craps out.

This is the second time I've had this problem, BTW. There was a firmware release two or three back that I had the exact same problem on, but this one certainly seems more widespread.

Opinion: There's no excuse for this problem STILL existing over a day after the FW was released. Whoever's in charge of SCEA's online stuff needs their ass kicked. Where the hell are my downloadable PS1 games, BTW? Japan has shit-loads of great ones and we get a trickle of crap. Sony can't afford to suck so badly in any area considering the shape they are in. This is not a biased opinion, it's the fucking truth.

I had to try it a couple of times but it eventually downloaded. It was stuck at 4% each time but I think after the third retry it was successful.

and I've been having sign out problems with PSN something terrible since I updated. Three just today while I was trying to d/l the Tony Hawk demo. ugh. why is the update to fix connection errors giving me the most (and only) connection errors I've ever had?

Thank you very much Sphinx :) That link appears to work as it's made it past the 10.1MB that all the other tries got hung up on.

Sony's clearly got a file with a bad checksum out there on one of their servers. Why haven't they taken it down yet?

Edit: Is this the Japanese update? Can I use this on a US PS3?

all update files are absolutely identical, i did byte-to-byte comparison few patches ago.

I just updated. It definetely solved the connection problems, now my PS3 does not crash when I do something network related.
