So a few days ago my ps3 had a weird problem ere I couldn't set custom backgrounds and then my files in the HDD were corrupted so I had to format and lost all that I had in my HDD.

Today I was playing sportsfriends, getting the 1k wins trophy and after I got it, I was about to quit the game but I got a black system msg telling me that there was an error because the PS3 just ran out of VRAM, it crashed and after I restarted the system once again it told me my files were corrupted but this time it booted without any problem after restoring.

I'm kinda scared, Is my PS3 starting to die?

My friend had this happen in Sportsfriends as well on a brand new PS3. I'm pretty sure it's a glitch with the game, not your console. I still can't imagine how Sportsfriends of all games can eat up all that VRAM unless there is some kind of memory leak.

Yeah just sounds like a game bug.

If it's the same thing I'm thinking of the corruption message is just something you can get if the PS3 crashes or it switches off unexpectedly, similar to what Windows does.

Well if that happened to your friend too then I'm a bit relieved. I guess it is a sign to stop trophy hunting that much haha

Sounds like someone isn't freeing memory up correctly on exit.

Since you're not the only one it's a game glitch, and the "corrupt data" message was a secondary effect of not exiting properly.

Don't worry

That was my first thought n'all.

Did you take a picture of it?

No sorry, I did the basic procedure.

1. lose your mind.
2 turn off the device making sure you didn't take any kind of evidence with you.
3. Run asking for help to Gaf.

It was like this screen:

but telling me something like "we couldn't continue the request, the PS3 ran out VRAM."

Sorry about that haha, I could swear I pressed comma a good bunch of times.

Yeah, my first thought is to see if others with that game had the same issue, because that sounds like it'd be a game problem rather than a system problem. I can easily imagine a game being designed in a way that it screws up and takes up all the VRAM.

. . . Fucking Sportsfriends though. That sounds like a modern computer keeling over due to a text editor, or even a fully working one that was at least gaming capable half a decade ago.
