Sony's PlayStation 4 is the fastest-selling console in UK history, according to official sales figures.

Chart-Track said PS4 beat the eight-year record help by Sony's PlayStation Portable, which launched in 2005 to the tune of 185,000 sales. PS4 beat Xbox One, which launched on 22nd November, and its predecessor PlayStation 3.

PS4 exclusive Knack debuts at 13 ahead of Super Mario 3D World on Wii U at 14. Yes, Knack sold more than Mario.

It looks like PS4 has outsold Wii U lifetime to date in the UK

Update from MCV (thanks mpl90):
Gfk Chart-Track has confirmed that the machine has beaten PSP’s eight year-old sales record of 180k units sold in its first week. Xbox One sold 150k units in its first week.

(Note that in both instances ‘week’ refers to Chart-Track’s sales week, which ends Saturdays – so most console’s ‘week one’ sales actually spans 48 hours).

The exact number of PS4s sold in the UK was not revealed, although MCV understands that the figure is not just higher than PSP’s 180k, but significantly so

Over 250k PS4 consoles were sold in the UK in the machine’s first 48 hours on sale.

Retail sources have confirmed the extent of PS4’s tremendous performance to MCV following Chart-Track’s confirmation this morning that PS4 is the UK’s fastest selling console ever.

All Formats Chart:

Ukie, ladies and gentlemen

Sony’s PS4 has well and truly landed, becoming the fastest selling video game console in UK history. It overturns the 8 year record held by the original PSP and eclipses the launch week sales of both PS3 and Xbox One. ‘Call of Duty: Ghosts’ (+33%) returns to No1 outselling ‘FIFA 14’ (-0%) by just over 6,000 units this week. After being heavily boosted by the Xbox One Day 1 Edition bundles last week, ‘FIFA 14’ has to settle for second place in the All Formats Chart despite strong sales on PS4. ‘Battlefield 4’ (+85%) holds on to No3 ahead of top selling PS4 exclusive title ‘Killzone: Shadow Fall’ at No4. The official PS4 Killzone hardware bundles help give Sony’s title the edge over EA in the PS4 chart with ‘FIFA 14’ at No2 and ‘Battlefield 4’ at No3, while ‘Call of Duty: Ghosts’ and ‘Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag’ sit at No’s 4 and 5 respectively. Every title in the All Formats Top 10 is on PS4 apart from ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ (+92%) at No7 and ‘Batman: Arkham Origins’ (+155%) at No10. All Top 10 titles increase sales this week with only sales of FIFA 14 remaining flat. ‘Assassin’s Creed IV’ (+19%) drops one place to No5 ahead of ‘Lego Marvel Super Heroes’ (+39%), a non-mover at No6. It might not be on the latest formats, but sales of ‘GTA V’ still jump by 92% this week, helping it climb one place to No7. However, PS4 software sales have certainly helped ‘Need for Speed: Rivals’ (+159%) which jumps into the Top 10, up from No13 to No8. ‘Just Dance 2014’ (+127%) is also out on PS4, but it’s a rise in sales on Wii that propels it into the Top 10, up from No14 to No9. It looks like Black Friday retailer promotions have been working their magic on certain titles with ‘Batman: Arkham Origins’ also back in the Top 10, up from No16 to No10. Other than Killzone, there are three more new titles that make appearances in the Top 40 this week: PS4 exclusive ‘Knack’ debuts at No13, ahead of ‘Super Mario 3D World’ on Wii U at No14 and ‘Injustice: Gods Among Us – Ultimate Edition’ at No38.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Knack had the bundle, and those are counted IIRC, but that's still...surprising, at least. XD

Knack sold more than Mario?

Maybe we will see a sequel after all.

(not that Knack will sell more long term, Mario will over take it easily, Mario has nice legs for a short fat plumber)

Congrats on a great launch, Sony!

That the UK prefer the turd that is Knack over a truly marvellous game should be no surprise by now :p #notaste

What ever it sold it couldve sold more, few people i know have been hunting since friday, always missing out when they come in stock for minutes on places like argos and john lewis. Its crazy they sold like this despite the absolute onslaught from ms ad money that has seen to nearly every ad break carrying xboxone ads. Sony couldve sold double what they did if they had the units and had hit the ads as hard as ms.

How is this surprising? Even crap games sell at launch(I'm not saying Knach is crap, haven't played it) because there's nothing else to play.
