That's the Digital Edition, right? Hmm...

Well it seems a lot more realistic than some of the other placeholder prices. I can easily see one of the SKUs, even the Digital One, at that price. So we might be looking at a $450 - $550 price range between the two PS5 models after all.

Definitely more realistic than the 699 one. 499 always seemed kinda like the sweet spot for me.

Looks like the normal version. The disk drive is on the right and the selector tab for the digital edition isn't active.

That's the disc edition. Zoom in on the pic, it has the disc drive

Exposing the sinister cartel of retailers who allow companies to pay for advertising space.
So what were the prices of the digital edition? controller? charger? head phones?

Everything is on German Amazon as well -

PS5 console

PS5 digital edition

https://www.amazon.de/dp/B08B42QX93/

Dual Sense controller

Media control

HD camera

3D Headset

Dual Sense charging station

Apparently the console/box weights around 11 lbs or am I reading the weights wrong? lol. Actually I think console itself is about 6 LBs, bu with the controller and other stuff in the box it comes in at 11 lbs?

If true, I was expecting the optical drive version to be 499 €, with the Digital one being 449€.

However, if they throw in some acessories that could potentially justify 549€ for the disc version, maybe that would make it more easier to digest.

$499 disk edition sounds about right. It is a *good* price, considering what you get vs something like an iphone these days.
The diskless is going for $399 or $449.

Interested to see the BOM of both consoles

The prices are there now. That was odd.. I wasn't the only one who didn't see the Euro amount at first right?

499 for the disk version I'm pretty sure is spot on.

Microsoft and Sony should actually have a discussion about releasing their standard versions at the same price and just let consumers decide.

Seems fair

No, it's the one with an optical drive, you can clearly see it.

Sony traditionally uses a 1:1 conversion between dollars and euros for console pricing (Europeans get shafted on exchange rates, but it also covers other taxes for Sony).
It would potentially be $500 normal, $450 Digital.

In any case, everything is placeholders until pre-orders are up.

Anyone trying to do a straight conversion of the France or EU price straight into £ or $ or otherwise

A. Must be about 11 years old

Or

B. Has never seen a product launch globally.

That is all.
Indeed.

I hope the difference between the standard and digital only versions is only the disk drive. I don't want them having to justify a bigger than 50$ difference between SKUs with less USB ports and stuff like that.

That would be trying to form a cartel, it's illegal. It's the kind of practice big companies with a more or less even market split do to keep smaller competitors out.

A disk drive costs them 10-20$, no way they are cutting 50-100 from the price.
I expect both to cost 500, but the discless to offer something like ps credit or 3 months ps+ or a digital code for a 20-40$ game (Sackboy?).

Both will be 499 anyway in my retarded opinion, if anyone is cheaper it will be xbox but I doubt it.

If the only differences between the two SKUs is the UHD disk drive, then the BOM difference between the two is $20-$25. But that doesn't translate to a $20-$25 cheaper for the digital version, which could be $50 - $100 cheaper at launch.

Personally, I'm hoping the regular, disk version will launch at $499, and the digital version will have 2x hard drive (1,650 GB) for the same launch price at $499 or slightly more expensive at $550.

So, how do you think that the rumored two alternative storage capacities will be distributed between the regular PS5 and the digital-only PS5?

Do you think each version will be available in both capacities (825GB and 1.65TB)?

Or do you think that the digital-only version will have the higher capacity (1.65TB) and the regular version will have the lower capacity (825GB)? This would incentivize people to buy the digital-only version, which Sony would want because they'd earn more money per purchased game due to digital sales producing more profits than physical sales.

So they would remove a $20 part and add an additional $75-100 part and call it even? Nah. Enjoy your 825GB.

The idea behind the decision would be to accept a short term loss by adding the higher capacity SSD, but minimize that short term loss via the removal of the disc drive, which would ironically be the cause of the long term gains (i.e. the lack of a disc drive guarantees that all purchases will be made in the PS Store).
