I'm with you. I never use Switch as handheld.
I’m the reason why then cause for me its in handheld 80% of the time

Im still willing to believe that if there 2 sku’s the basic model will either be without a dock or handheld only ala the lite

And that's fine, options would be cool!

Switch lite 2 $400? That would be a 100% increase if the base models turns out to be the lite. I hope this is a standard dock model with less memory or lcd screen.

$500 oled glass screen with dock. A cheaper lite version with no oled and dock for $350 for the kids. Maybe? A basic for $500 sounds concerning.

I wonder what the 2 SKU's are like.
Maybe the dock will be optional? Is it technically possible the dock itself might have some sort of upscaling tech built in which will make it more expensive?.

I see people saying Oled but I'd expect them to wait for that so they can add it to a revision later on and get some double dippers.

I’ll be a tad disappointed if they don’t have BC with the Switch. Nintendo still sells the switch and not having that ability to use your content is sad if you ask me. I’m still using a launch Switch.

I'd be seriously surprised if the Switch 2 doesn't have BC. Nintendo has usually been good at giving their consoles at least 1 gen worth of BC. The Switch was sort of the exception because it was a major change of format for them.

That said, this being Nintendo I don't expect to see any performance and resolution patches or $10 next gen upgrades. BC titles will probably play with the same resolution and framerate targets as on the Switch 1, and then they'll sell an enhanced version for $70 (maaaaybe offering something like a 30% discount if you own the last gen version)

I'd feel comfortable with them having the basic (non-lite version) be BC, card reader, 256gigs, LCD, and no dock to shave off the price point as much as possible to get the biggest return.

My only questions are: What's the new gimmick and just how much power can they possibly push out for a minimum $400 price tag while still making money off it?

Didnt post about this because Discord screenshots are very easy to fabricate.

Either way, my guess is $349.99. $400 is too much for a Nintendo console

$400 too much for a Nintendo system? I think it depends on who you are. After all we're seeing many say $699 is too much for a PlayStation, even if it's a PS5 Pro.

In both cases it comes down to the value proposition. What's on offer that justifies the cost, and how well the platform holder sells it. I think SIE could be doing a better job of that with the Pro, but I think Nintendo will nail it with Switch 2 in part because they'll have something that easily does so: 1P exclusives.

But to what else you said, yeah there's a possibility it could be a fake leak too. Guess we won't know until the Switch 2 gets revealed.

Just give me a huge AAA dark fantasy styled Zelda game on the Switch 2 and I'm sold. I'll even buy it for that one game. There's bound to be other games I'll like eventually and Nintendo push their hardware to the limits for great games so I'll definitely be getting a lot of Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart level games.

I don't think you're gonna get any 1P on Switch 2 with the IQ and fidelity of Rift Apart; Switch 2 even with DLSS and docked won't be competing with base PS5 in performance to pull that off.

But they'll definitely have some great-looking games on there; Nintendo have the art style & aesthetics for their games tuned perfectly.

bullshit....Nintendo will never sold two versions of HW at launch

They never sold a hybrid either until they did.

Nintendo has not released a digital-only gaming device in its entire history. Upending their entire marketing strategy by having the base SKU of Switch 2 go that direction seems highly, highly unlikely.

Far more likely: secondary SKU will be cheaper and dockless, like Switch Lite. If it ain't broke...

$400 is a tough sell for most families and stuff, I would think. Especially if it is “just” a better Swotch. I don’t know if I will upgrade for a while and my switch is launch era. They’ll have to have some knockout exclusives, Metroid Prime with better graphics won’t do it.

2 SKU, man imagine if they make a more powerful homeconsole only version, that would be so good.

more likely is either an OLED version or just higher storage capacity (maybe both in 1?)

a console only version should actually be cheaper... they couldn't use a vastly different chip due to compatibility reasons and there not being many alternatives to choose from.
so a console only version would most likely just use the same chip but running full blast thanks to proper cooling.

I dont trust the source but. 400$ for a next gen Nintendo Switch 2 console is considered cheap. I am down 100%.

how much is the Rog ally X again ?

Even with not high end hardware people expecting to get the whole package at less than 500$ will be disappointed.
Nintendo does not operate in a different world or economy compared to others, it's all correlated.

Depending on the technology and whether Switch-1 games are physically BC i won't bat an eye spending $400 on the next Switch.
Yep, especially if they help game with dynamic res/frames.

Although I got to say I really want OLED screen after Switch OLED.

LCD screens for both $399 and $549, one SKU comes with more storage and a dock. Same specs otherwise. OLED mid gen model. Big push for Nintendo Online (still friend codes). Backwards compatibility included (digital and physical).

The 2 SKU angle has potential. A lower priced more family oriented entry point SKU with just the portable and a higher priced fully featured Switch with a better screen that can attract people who won't use the dock much but do want a better portable experience than the bare minimum.

Coupled with a good effort on the software side from Nintendo (a given at this point imo) and third parties more confident on the console success from the beginning is going to be a very solid proposal. And with BC I can keep digging at my current NS backlog.

I think it's going to be pretty good, but they really can fumble the power and/or the price. A portable Ps4 pro level machine with some modern tech for 450 would feel fair enough to me if the software is there.

I'll make some stupid speculation. Base model no dock or power adapter. Compatible with OG dock at 4k/30 and 1080p/60. Also compatible with OLED dock at 4k/60. Higher SKU bundled with a new dock capable of 4k/120 (even it nothing will support it) with power adapter for 499.99USD

this could actually kinda work.
but that assumes that the thickness of the system aligns near perfectly with the current Switch models. and I could see it being a bit thicker for better cooling and a larger battery.

it could also be that you will need a new dock, but they will still sell a version without the dock and without the charger, because everyone has USB-C cables and USB chargers these days anyway, and many people use their Switch in Handheld mode only.
so it's not even necessary for it to be compatible with the old dock for this kind of version to actually be a viable and attractive option.

and they can later still sell you a dock should you change your mind.

Thinking about this... with the possible graphical upgrades we may see with the Switch 2 i just hope nintendo actually invests in better engines for their 1st party games and that compatibility with newer tech engines is also good so they can land more 3rd party games that actually look and play nice.

imo one sku handheld and digital only
and more expensive SKU with a dock and card reader

Hmmm by this statement I’m assuming the base handheld model will not support switch 1 game cartridges standard. It sounds like the up-charged unit will have the dock that allows the old cards to be inserted for bw compatibility? This is done to keep the handheld spec to the new cartridge specs cheaper, less space used in design?

Digital purchases might run without issue

A digital only SKU is inevitable. And I think you should be expecting that even the phyiscal carts won't have the entire game on it to keep the cart costs down.

400 to play with ps4 (2014 quality) .. great value... 699 to play the best possible 2024 graphics on consoles ...TOO EXPENSIVE fuck you...

I hated the Pro price... but Sony apparently is following the Nintendo way of selling overpriced hardware, just on another level.

I guess this is just the new reallity for gaming.

So do you think the base Steam Deck is overpriced at $399?

Is it a risk to be pelted with tomatoes and eggs if I suggest or hope they introduce a trophy/achievement system?

And a substantial selection of themes?

Make it BC and nothing else matters. I need to carry this library forward. Got not choice. Money was spent. Choices were made. Don't make me buy an archival Switch.

I don’t think it’s unfeasible. But if it’d happen I think that whatever you imagine/want the trophy/achievement system to be, it will be exactly nothing like that and have some weird Nintendo “twist”.
