I highly doubt Nintendo will launch a portable focused “Switch 2 Lite” until at least a year or 2 after launch so the SKUs will probably be limited to minor variations. I see this going a few ways:

1. Most likely: Memory SKUs. $399 for 256gb $449 for 512gb. Nintendo will probably depend on SD cards for more storage so I highly doubt we get anything bigger than 512 at launch.

2. My wish: Different screens. $399 for 256gb LCD. $499 for 512gb OLED. Fat chance this happens but it would nice for those of us with Switch OLED models who don’t want to loose that contrast.

I'm confused about what they mean about the dock with card reader. Are they suggesting that the physical backwards compatibility will require the dock to take advantage of and won't be built into the console? Because if so that is a horrible solution.

why? the Switch Lite exists, which doesn't even offer the option to get one later. a handheld only bundle with the possibility to upgrade later doesn't seem unlikely at all to me
The Switch Lite is not a very popular SKU looking at the japanese charts. They will not want to cripple their standard model like that.

Use portable on my Switch when I travel, otherwise play docked. Excited to see games drop at launch and BC is really important to me.

of course it isn't, because it's so limited. you can not upgrade later and you can not replace the controllers.
we all know the ridiculously awful analog sticks the Joycons have, and the lite has these built in with no easy way to replace them.

a, let's call it "Core" bundle, in honor of the 360 Core, would be a way more attractive deal. the exact same Core (get it?) console but without the TV connection hardware (Doc, cable) and without a charger. people already have USB chargers at home, and many people use their Switch mainly as a handheld (even the ones that have the normal model)

it would be a direct fix for all that's bad with the Switch Lite, while still targeting the same CORE (hehe) audience.

Switch 2 Core
Switch 2 Premium

maybe bundle them with differently colored Joycons, similar to how the Switch OLED comes with White Joycons they could make the Core have grey ones, and the Premium have White or the iconic Red/Blue ones to visually differentiate the bundles

Even so, you would be getting rid of the whole concept and naming of the Switch. I don’t believe they would do that.

Though I’m not certain they will remove the physical slot either. It may just be an OLED + extra storage.

which brings us again to the Switch Lite tho. that thing is also still called Switch after all. it's not a Stuck Lite 🤣

I could also see only the storage being the difference, and a way for them to make a profit from the hardware, while selling the lower SKU at a slight loss or just break even.

making some extra bucks with a small storage boost is a money printing scheme that's very common in the smartphone world after all 😅

$500 for the good version and Nintendo will never drop its price, because why would they?

I'm now worried about gaming becoming a luxury hobby...

They're going to hold the oled for 2 or 3 years later or the oled model is the same price but without a dock
That's not a for sure thing and I hope that you're wrong. The OLED screen is so much better than I won't even consider an LCD Switch 2 at this point. It's the same as the Steam Deck, I won't buy a second iteration unless it has an OLED screen.

We still have no confirmation but those were the rumors a few months ago, LCD only for the launch
Now that production has started we should have confirmation soon

400 bucks with the current silicone costs and Nintendo usually not selling at a loss..... and portable on top of it all....
That thing is gonna be weak.,...well I guess nobody ever expected a powerhouse from Nintendo.

The only thing you should be comparing to is the current Switch and by that standard Switch 2 will be a huge upgrade. Much better CPU/GPU, DLSS support, at least double the ram with 4x the bandwidth at 100GB/s. Nintendo 1st party games going to look absolutely amazing on Switch 2.
