Reviews:

Den Of Geek Review - In total, The Punisher season two delivers what I want out of all of these Marvel shows - a familiar character dealing with new and exciting threats in a serialized story. That may sound basic, but it’s a feat that many shows on TV, Marvel and Netflix series included, aren’t able to accomplish. Given everything that’s going on with the partnership between Netflix and Marvel, it’s likely that this will be Frank Castle’s last ride in the MCU. If this is the last time we’ll see Bernthal’s Punisher, it’s a hell of a good look to leave on.

I’m starting it tonight. Didn’t want to be disturbed at work watching it.

War Zone was the most “Punisher” like film for sure though it wasn’t well received. I’ll always have a soft spot for the Jane movie. I lived down the road at the time during filming so I got to see and hear some of it.

Jane was the closest to the spirit of the character before they reworked his motivations in the MAX imprint. His work in the 2004 film, Dirty Laundry, and the game was all stellar.

Bernthal in season 2 of Daredevil was up there too but they completely fucked him over once he got his own series.

I liked how Jane still had the family motivations but still got to take down a crminal organization.

What I like about this Frank Castle is losing everything and learning to care again. Granted Jane has a very very small amount of learning to care for people again but not to the same level.

Punisher in Daredevil and S1 of his own show is pretty much the pinnacle of super hero anything for me. Flawless.

Going to marathon this whole season tonight if I can.

I just finished watching the first season for the second time today .
Now I can watch the 2nd season with pleasure this weekend.
Hope it’s still violent and brutal.

888 888 could not watch... Netflix was/is syncing it here. :/

I made it to the episode selection and got lost watching the trailers from the two seasons. I loved the use of Metallica in the first one. My favorite band and hero together. I’m about midways thru the first episode now. So far so good, I like his growth so far between seasons.

Just finished Iron Fist season 2. Goodness what garbage that was, could have been a CW show with so much boring side drama with Ward and his sister, etc..

Danny Bland worried more about the well being of new cheesey psychopaths than his own people half the time. Homeboy was so neutered by the writers he couldn't even get his own fist back (until the lame 'Indiana Payne' ending), all while watching his girlfriend beat up his WuTang bruv.

Yeah, just let "Mary" walk away who is a bi-polar like split personality killing machine for hire which no-one knows how she is triggered. Fucking dumb shit plot-hole writing. The final episode was insufferable, should have just sent her a break-up text, little boy.

Fingers crossed Daredevil S3 is better, and the new Punisher did not get the same phoned in writing as well, since the first season of it I enjoyed.

I only caught portions of Iron Fist. I’m a big marvel guy and had 0 interest in that show. I haven’t even seen the defenders. Short of Daredevil I really don’t care for the rest of them.

Now season 3 of daredevil was straight fire. Kingpin is amazing. It’s a shame it’s all for nothing. I hope Disney picks up theses shows on their service.

On episode 3 of Punisher. Really liking it so far. Gonna be a good weekend of this and gaming.

I can't believe they're supposedly making a third season for Jessica Jones, ironic, that season could have just ended on the second one and it would have been fine because they're going to cancel it anyway after.

Nice about DD, and agreed about Kingpin. Gonna burn through this and then stoked for Punisher.

Yes, I agree DD S3 was great. I liked it more than Season 2 even. I just finished the first two episodes of Punisher S2 and it's great as well :)

just finished the season........sorta goes nowhere towards the end
The new Bad guy i did like but everything else around it sorta gets annoying towards the end

i guess im just expecting the punisher from season 2 of daredevil showing up and fucking up everyone and the only time we really get that is
When he blows away 2 rival gangs at the end

I ended up watching The Night Comes For Us instead, very good brawler. Hopefully Netflix has synced the episodes with my country now so that tonight i can go back to Frank :)

Funny: The Night Comes For Us actually has a scene very reminscent of the Season 1 end episode involving glass. That's all ill be saying!

You guys weren't shitting me with how good Daredevil S3 was!

I just finished the final episode and it was fantastic overall from top to bottom. The best season out of all the Marvel shows they did by far.

Looking forward to starting Punisher S2 later today.

Yeah. I was addicted to season 3. The ending was awesome. The whole kingpin arch was just so well done. The show was cast perfectly. It feels like such a waste to see if canceled. I really hope Marvel doesn’t waste all the hard work it took to build these shows.

Thru 4 episodes. Enjoying it. I like Shane... I mean frank

I’m starting ep3 in a few hours. I will say it feels like he has a bit of the Dark Knight voice going on at times which I’m not a huge fan of. But John does like to grunt a lot in general lol.

Binged season 2 last night, review below:

Superheroes have signature backups, side characters (Robin, Microship etc) If they gave Frank one this season I would have been happy. So there’s no one else besides Jon Bernthal in this and a) you can’t form chemistry wise with next to nothing b) protecting the punisher.

I agree that Jon Berthanl made them better, and you can get away with that for a movie but not 12+ episodes. That brings me to Marvel Netflex’s one weakness: side characters.

3/5 mostly pathetic but great punisher that desperately needed help from co. and got nothing.

With my flaky ass internet just saw EP1 and scheisse this is how a second season should start.

It hitted that feel again and the fatality style combat is already back. Oh Frank, how i missed your violence... No filters.

And helllooooooo Madani.

Did that rumor of an alt-right villain turn out to be bunk?
I'm on episode 3 and it's complete bullshit. The show is awesome. So far, it's even been the opposite of "woke." He even makes a statement in episode 2 about how women get special treatment.

I can't believe anyone had doubts about this show after how great S1 was.

I dare anyone to watch episode 1 of season 2 and stop.

I just finished episode 1 and holy shit what a fantastic ride. Very tightly shot and hit all the emotional notes perfectly.

I don't think an opening episode for this type of character could have been done any better. His openness with someone he found an instant connection with, and then, Frank unleashed, Mortal Kombat style.

Bark Frank, bark, Rugh!

Just finished it. Great season, really enjoyed it, but I did have some problems with the plot at times and that preacher guy his scenes seemed pretty pointless to me. I will be sad if this is the last season.

Oh my god this season sucked so much that I feel like I totally wasted 12 or so hours of my life.

It was painfully slow, like, they could have pretty much slammed together episodes 2-8 into one and still told the same story. The writing was horrible, with basically half the characters acting unbelievable.

There were also many things that didn't make sense, like why did they keep the senator hostage in the same trailer that John already knew about? One call from the "big boss christian guy" and he could have went there with some guys and got him back. Why would Madani, a trained homeland security agent, fail to overpower a therapist? Why is everyone acting like Billy is hideously scarred when it's basically just three cuts that don't make him hideous at all? Why do they spend almost the entire first episode introducing Beth's character and then she's never heard from again? Why do the police keep the dangerous criminal Billy Russo in a hospital right in thte city with a couple of regular police officers guarding him? Why is he able to walk out hiding behind the same mask that everyone should already know is his? Hell, wouldn't the cops be suspicious that HIS THERAPIST is escorting a guy past active officers in a hallway right outside his room? The whole thing with Billy going out and recruiting veterans to create a ridiculous street gang is just cringy too. Amy, the kid, is a mess. I just find it completely unbelievable that she would be acting bratty and doing her whole "cool kid"-schtick when she just recently almost was killed in a bar.

And the violence. Sure, I get that it's fiction, and I love a cheesy action movie as much as anyone, but when major characters repeatedly get mauled to the point of near death and in the next episode are walking around like nothing happened it does away with all credibility. Mahoney taking a plunge off a bridge while in the front seat of an ambulance that get's completely smashed on impact should have been in a hospital for a long time, yet right after he's walking around with a band-aid on his forehead and nothing else to show for it. Frank gets hit in the face with gym weights and doesn't even have any swelling after. He get's shot, beaten and cut numerous times and walks around like nothing happened.

Nope, this was a shit season, even worse than the last one and that was so-so.

The first season was so much better in every regard, the villain Agent Orange, the kid guy who gets rejected by military, then goes ham on everyone, the fight in the woods with Frank's veteran buddy who uses arrows and traps, the fight between best friends and I could go on, it had so many memorable moments, unlike this season. For me first season was a 9/10, and this was at best a 7/10.

Yeah, I feel like most of you guys. This season was worse than the previous one.

However, the way Frank finishes Russo is hilarious. A completely "for fuck sake, just die already."

Did that rumor of an alt-right villain turn out to be bunk?

Having watched quite a bit of season 2 now, it's laughable this was ever a thing.

Apparently the media are now so ignorant of religious culture that they can't distinguish an obviously intentionally weird cult from the genuine article.

John Pilgrim's a really cool antagonist. I hope they don't dispose of him too easily.

---

I'd agree with those saying this season is weaker. Frank's involvement in the story seems somewhat unnecessary, and the writers have gone back to the well on multiple things -- disgruntled vets, Billy Russo. I was intrigued early on by the idea of a Frank managing to move on from the worst parts of his life, but they dispensed with that a little too easily.

Still, I really enjoy Jon Bernthal in this role; and Billy's psychologist is a pretty interesting wrinkle.

Season 2 definitely didn't hook me like the first season did. There was very little anticipation with this one, and then with what happens with Russo at the end I was just sort like, "That's it?"

Such a killer line.

Personal thoughts:
Loved it, but it was definitely different than S1. Some characters were really quickly discarded and the last 2-3 episodes were less structured than the rest of the season. As if they had to finish these in a haste and you can tell that the quality suffers from it.

Amy was also incredibly obnoxious which i reckon accurately reflects the youth of today. Frank was being a mofo as usual but less of a Terminator. Madani killed it once again. She reminds me of Atomic Blonde in terms of character and is what a strong woman character should emphasize.

Russo on the other hand.. aside from a few psycho moments that accurately portray him as Jigsaw, i found him quite tame. Ben Barnes played it amazingly though.

The biggest letdown for me was that there was way too much introspection. Entire episodes are filled with backchatter about Frank's past, and whilst i loved it in S1, it was balanced there. Here there is just too much backdrop and too little action in some episodes.

All in all Season 2 was another bingewatch for me, but it was definitely less than Season 1. Still an amazing season nonetheless but i doubt how they are going to do a third Season, if any.

Season 2 definitely didn't hook me like the first season did. There was very little anticipation with this one, and then with what happens with Russo at the end I was just sort like, "That's it?"
I agree with this aswell. The entire season you are left with the impression that Russo is going to meet Hell again but it ended on a very soft note.

I was initially annoyed with Amy too, but I came to appreciate her as a check on Frank's insane lifestyle choices. As in, "Do you realize this is all very abnormal, Frank?"

Madani's struggle between her history of lawful good and having to allow for Frank's chaotic good was quite interesting, yeah.

I watched this entire show, both seasons, nursing a hangover this past weekend. It was ok. I'm a simple man, and I was hoping for more, well, punishing going on. Most of the episodes were talking and exposing details and talking etc etc. The few times we got some action it was pretty good, but I vastly prefer the movies.

My biggest gripe with Season 2 is that Russo after the bank heist was just standing there in a full blown panic attack for at least 10 seconds...out in the open...and Frank later says that he couldn't take the shot because he lost his window of opportunity when he finally snapped out of it.

...but he legit had like 10 seconds. He didn't pull the trigger, runs behind a car or cars to start returning fire on the other gang members...all the while Russo is just standing there.

You're telling me THE PUNISHER couldn't find a half second to just aim his gun over at Russo and pull that trigger?!

I don't know why that bothers me so much, but it really didn't feel plausible that someone with Frank's talents wouldn't have been able to get that shot off, even in the middle of a firefight.

Season 2 was pretty good...John was a yin to Frank's yang was pretty interesting, I was happy to see them team up at the end.

The scene with Frank being tortured by the gang at the warehouse was pretty damn well done.

Frank got over the idea that he killed innocent people pretty damn fast. Even if he realizes that he didn't personally cause any collateral damage, it should be pretty eye opening that there's very little reason why he wouldn't exposed to hurting innocent people in the future based on how gunfire he puts into walls/people. He just kind of goes "oh sweet, not guilty" and goes back about his ways.

You're telling me in that gang meetup that he organized at the very end of the season where he shoots up what looked to be at least a couple dozen people...every single one of those people was vetted to be a shit person before he just took a couple ARs and lit them all up?

ALSO! In what world does John shoot up a police station to shit, and no one has any evidence whatsoever that he did it? He literally shows up and announces himself to the police chief at that station and makes threats, directly owns what he did...but Madani sees the same exact guy in NYC and can't bring him in on any charges whatsoever?

I get that there may have been some mess for her as a result of her involvement with that incident because of Frank, but the show could have at least handled her explanation for why she didn't act better.

...I'll be up for Season 3 if there is one somewhere. I want Frank to go back to his bartender lady friend and make a life there. Was surprising she played literally no part in the grand scheme of things other than to be a reference for Frank to use in conversation to show that he'd tried to move on.
