That's why I use the pistol. I keep running out of AR ammo.

But I did just unlock that ammo regen during overdrive, so maybe that will help.

Yeah, I may have to start shooting haha, I keep playing it a bit more tactical thinking of saving ammo, when to be fair... why? Haha.
You can also use the dash and break them if you dash into them. The crates that is.

The more I play it, the more I’m enjoying it. It’s a damn good game that shouldn’t be reviewed as low as it has been.

However.

It’s not an id software game, and the quality shows. The games a buggy mess, with QOL shit missing, issues that should have been spotted, and all sorts. I’ve lost count the number of times I’ve appeared inside the terrain now looking under the world. Hell, they didn’t even do the most basic of all things for a first person game... depth checking so that the gun doesn’t go through the damn wall... this is not even counting how all over the shop graphics are. I mean that intro part was a mess of low resolution blocky textures, couples with god rays from nowhere, and poor jittery particle effects.

Add to that this is THE WORST gui this gen so far, everything lags. Every damn thing. It’s a mess, and takes ages to do anything.

So yeah, the games good. But my god is it not quite ready...

Damn! I'm having a blast in this!
Call me nostalgic, but this thing reminds me of a time when games were mainly meant to be, you know, fun. When it was all about gameplay.

I dont think its a glitch. PC users playing the game at 4k are saying it looks blurry, and the OneX only runs at 1080p because of the 60fps performence.
There is a way on PC of editing some stuff in the ini file to improve the blurryness, but obviously you cant do that on console.
I thought it was just me. 1080p, Ultra, blurry mess. Also im not sure why even 120FOV seemed like I was still zoomed in too much but gave me a fisheye too.

I was surprised my game didnt look like the gameplay I saw in the past. Not the reason I returned it, but it was still the first jarring thing about the game I noticed.

The Polish of an ID game is Nintendo like and yea it definitely lacks polish for sure.

The 1080P max on console is exactly why im passing on it. Dont force me to 1080P/60. Give me options.

Theres no reason at all that they couldnt do a 1080P/60 option and put in a 4k/30 one.

I didn't see a OT, so.... I think this is the end of the road for Rage series looking at Amazon US. I loved Rage 1 so kind of sad. :messenger_crying: Looks like bomb territory as far as sales, I would guess this will sell significantly less then Rage 1 which was modest in sales, if I remember correctly. I'll probably pick this up later in the year.

Amazon US current (PS4 only):

1. Kingdom Heart III - reduced price
2. Red Dead Redemption 2 - reduced price
3. Spider-man - reduced price
4. Mortal Kombat II - reduced price by $10
5. Days Gone - full price
6. NBA2k19 - reduced price
7. God of War - reduced price
8. A Plague Tale - not a full price game
9. Rage 2* - full price
10. GTA V - reduced price

* Rage 2 Deluxe Edition is also at #16

On release day and the following days it should be #1 or close.

Its interesting because it looks quite sharp for me. Make sure that dynamic resolution option is turned off, because it was on by default for me. Also try just TAA and not TAA+FXAA.

The focus button is CTRL and you have to hit it before doing a special move. A weird and awkward place because you have to hit another keyboard button simultaneously.

I remapped the focus button to one of my extra mouse buttons and it made the controls infinitely better.

Also, turning off auto camera centering while driving made the driving controls MUCH better with mouse/keyboard.

I don't know if just the vehicles I have right now, but they are so slow compared to Mad Max.

Loved the feeling of hauling ass and getting pissed when I went off the side.

Anyway, I went back to M/KB. I just hate shooters with a gamepad. I use a G600, so I just set up a profile for it.

Driving isn't as nice, but I'll just switch to gamepad for the races if they're challenging.
Not sure if you noticed this, but there’s an option to turn off auto camera centering while driving. Makes it MUCH easier to drive with M/KB

Thanks. I didn't notice. My workaround was basically to drive left-handed so the mouse wasn't involved at all. :messenger_squinting_tongue:

The Verdict: 6.5
The Good

  • The guns are mostly superb
  • The Nanotrite abilities are a blast
  • Chopping heads off with the Wingstick doesn’t get old
  • Combat allows for a lot of creativity
  • There’s a (albeit mediocre) photo mode
The Bad
  • Entirely skippable story
  • Too much open world grind
  • Driving feels bad
  • Dull/lifeless open world
  • Technical issues abound

  • Fire

1) on the PC this game is very demanding- not when doing the stuff benchmarks look to, but in the midst of a big battle in a complex base. The engine is *very* weird, and maybe keeps 60FPS, but is dropping stuff per frame when stressed, which your brain feels. 2080TI owners, for instance, have to drop down to 1440P to get a sweet combat experience- and believe me, nothing in the visulas justifies this.

2) NPC dialog will bore you to death- the story seems to be worse.

3) no free roaming, unlike Mad Max, cos *everywhere* is hilly.

4) poor lighting compared to the best 2019 games.

5) boring SJW designs everywhere. Females all look like transgender males. And I'm a person who thought the female characters in Skyrim and Fallout looked fine. But Rage 2 does something really vile with the female models.

6) fully broken sound system. The sound mechanism obviously *tried* to be clever- but seems to overload all the time, dropping sound channels- frequently the sounds for things in your immediate vicinity. This almost certainly ties to general visual render load. So if you are close to the edge with your GPU, the sounds break.

7) truly horrid upgrade UI, and truly horrid upgrade systems that are both confusing and hard to push. However the upgrades are *fantastic*.

8) if you ignore the lack of narrative motivation, the shooting is *fantastic*. Everyone sez this, but everyone is correct. Shooting is brilliant. For many people, it makes up for the rest of the game.

There's a ton of stuff this game could and should have done better. The game suffers from a lack of vision- which is why in the end iD said "eff it" and focused on combat. But you feel from the first second you wanna have acces to the good stuff, yet the game forces a lot of very poorly considered grind before you get the good stuff.

To be honest, Rage 2 should have had a console *auto reward* system where the upgrades are gifted to you in sensible order as you just do stuff (in any order) in the world. Many peeps would have liked this game better if it showed its true colours from the first moment. Indeed the whole beginning section of the game is absolute sh-t, and totally out of character.

The soft image is baked into the engine, and even with all the usual options off (when the screen now looks like ass) the softness remains. You notice it less after a long gaming session.

The AI is broken in this sense. Bases have to be totally cleared, but one or two bad guys can fall off the base geometry. They cry out when you shoot maybe, but directional sound is utter broken, as is distance loudness falloff. They can sound to your left, for instance, when to you right. Finding the 'missing' bad guy when he/she is actually underneath the clifftop base can be a royal pain. If the sound system wasn't broke, it would be part of the fun.

There's a shed load of bugs like this- a Beth specialty that is impossible to forgive in a giant AAA publisher. This is a deep deep sale game- but then you'll probably have a lot of fun with it.

The NPC dialogue is pretty bad. Not Anthem bad, but up there.

Wish they added BL-style convos all over, The game has them but not with all NPCs.

I am enjoying this game personally and think it's a tad underrated. If i am being generous its an 8.0 if I am being real probably a 7 or 7.5 from what I played so far. Hard to say, it's gonna vary from person to person and their values and expectations.

i want to try it but probably waiting for a sale.

if the combat is anything like Doom then i need it. also love the Mad Max feel it has going.

just not sure if i want to deal with tedious grinding. not really interested in the story/characters. if the gameplay loop and combat/driving is fun then i can overlook it.

The grinding is the game. Searching for arks is fun as hell and the only chests you need are ark chests. There are a ton of pink chests, you don't have to hunt them all down. I don't even know what to do with all the resources and I rarely complete camps.

I was gonna say, this thread is way busier than the OT. Show it some love! :messenger_open_mouth:
