We all know, people have a preference for a certain platform, but this time, for the first time ever, we have every platform with 2 very different SKUs that target different play or needs. (PS4 Pro and Xbox One X were just stronger)

So I hope we'll have some lists that won't just have your 2 least favorite platform SKUs in last place.

I'll go first:
#1 Xbox Series S (next gen for just $299, sleek and small. It does everything the X does and is enough. You need to play and own it to appreciate the console. It's more traditional console design and gaming. It's great tech, even tho it's weaker than Series X and worse value for your money *if you can and want to afford the 200 extra. But $200 is a lot of Games and Game Pass, which the console is made for and perfect)
#2 Xbox Series X (the best Hardware you can get across all platforms. Period. It has to be high on this list)
#3 Switch Lite (you get the Nintendo evergreens on a cheap $199 HD handheld)
#4 Ps5 DE ($399 for everything Sony has to offer. Cheaper than the Series X)
#5 Switch (It does offer more than the Lite with TV hookup, but it's 50% more expensive but to big for handheld play)
#6 Ps5 (doesn't do anything more than play physical games. Just bad value compared to Ps5 DD)

1) XSX $500 Best console HW on the market. Quiet, powerful and has a vast library of last gen upgraded games. 1TB SSD. Also plays UHD's.

2) PS5 $500 Best Console for playing Sony's games. Not as refined as XSX HW but almost just as powerful. Plays PS4 games. 800MB SSD. Also plays UHD's.

3) PS5DE Get all of PS5's games with UHD settings for only $400. 800MB SSD. No UHD player and have to pay full price for digital games are the only negatives.

4) XSS $300 Low budget console with small SSD and no physical media player. If you're playing on a 1080P screen and are not planning on upgrading to a 4K HDR screen then you get everything Game Pass brings plus faster load times and improved framerates on last gen games.

5) Switch At $300 I Always thought it was too expensive for the HW inside but its the only way to play Nintendo's games on the TV.

6) Switch lite at $200 is the cheapest way to play Nintendo's games but is strictly a portable.

Are you new here?
No, I'm old. I just prefer to look at a console based on how I use it. For some people XSS may be exactly what they're looking for. I know it's probably not for me. I'll also eventually buy PS5 and XSX because I know each will have games I want to play. Im sure I'll prefer one over the other, but I won't know which until I have them.

I can tell you that playing Mario Kart, NES and SNES online is the most fun I've had in years and I that it will be tough for Microsoft and Sony to top that any time soon.

1. PS5 actually designed around providing a next gen experience with an SSD and I/O double the speed of the Series X with the amazing Dual Sense controller.
2.PS5 DE same but with limited game purchase options.
3. Xbox Series X. A PC in a small box.
4. Switch. A low powered handheld with a TV output.
5. Switch Lite. A low powered handheld without a TV output.
6. Series S. An underpowered, low memory, low storage, low spec PC in a box that outputs Sub-HD resolution cross-gen games with no reason to exist other than as a way to get Gamepass subs from cheap parents. It will hold back Xbox a lot and to an extent all multiplat games.

1. PS5 - Strong 1st party output; DualSense is a true next gen controller.
2. Switch - 1st party IPs are unmatched; definitive platform to play Indies.
3. XSX - most powerful console on paper; not much more than a 3rd party / BC machine at this point.

I would say X series S is the worst, not future proof at all with that measly GPU and shit RAM. Already struggling to do old games at 1440p 60fps, newer games will bring it to its knees.

Makes sense its dirt cheap because its trash.

XSX: good value and somewhat future proof, it just doesn't seemed as well designed as ps5 for gaming. A ps5 engineered with 12.2TF would absolutely wreck XSX in multiplatforms, it's easily matching or exceeding it with 10.2

On a personal note, the insane value of the digital PS5 is unmatched but I appreciate the possibility of playing the version 1.0 of some PS4 games.

1. Switch - hybrid form is a masterstroke + best 1st party games available

2. Series S - excellent pricepoint, gamepass, bc, incredible emulation prospects, bethesda exclusive games, don't need a 4k tv

Everything else isn't worth a toss at this pricepoint.

1) PS5 : Performance, efficiency, SSD/IO, DualSense, Sony's Strategy, all is perfectly balanced for a true next gen experience since Day One.
2)PS5 Digital
3)XSX : A very good piece of Hardware, and interesting exclusives will arrive, I can see a good potential, but I'm not considering to buy it now.
4)
5)
......
500) Switch : basicly a portable and the king of rehashed games.
501) XSS : This "thing" should never happen.

I haven't played the new Sony or Microsoft systems, so I'll refrain from ranking them. However, I just want to make one comment:

#6 Ps5 (doesn't do anything more than play physical games. Just bad value compared to Ps5 DD)

Did you know that all models of the PS5 can utilize digital downloads?

The PS5 with Blu-ray drive can play physical games, but it isn't limited to them.

It's retarded to think Nintendo have the power to start an entirely new generation of games and consoles, halfway through the previous generation, simply because they released a second system.

I assume people will also claim the Switch 2 will be a 10th gen console, even if it releases earlier in the current gen than the Switch did last gen, which will be even dumber.

1 PS5 ... all the good shit
2 XSX ... majority of the good shit
3 PS5 Digital ... all the good shit but you're SOL if your PSN ID gets banned
4 Switch - if you want Nintendo, here is Nintendo
5 XSS ... just save for a couple more months instead of rewarding MS for this shit
6 Switch Lite...what am i switching?

Those physical games allow for resale, still work when your PSN ID gets banned/comprimised, look nice on my shelf, can be lent to others....

Absurd thread but I'll humour you

1. PS5 best games, plus ability to trade in
2. PS5 DE best games, minus ability to trade in
3. Series X solid console lacking games/reasons to buy
4. Switch good machine but too limited in terms of 3rd party games
5. Series S piece of shit
6. Switch Lite bigger piece of shit

PlayStation wins at present because it's the only place to give you a plethora of actual next gen games. It has already justified its price to me.

Nintendo seem to be doing their own thing. Good for them, they maximize profits by minimizing efforts while simultaneously offering some of the best games.

Eh, I'm bored so I'll bite.

1. Switch
I never thought I'd put the Switch above the PS5, but games. Once the PS5 gets more actual games then it will take the top spot but until then the Switch has a better exclusive library and offers more at this point in time.

2. PS5 Digital Edition
I'm putting this above the PS5 Standard Edition because it's the best value for next gen. $400 doesn't get you a gimped version of the console like with the Series S, and you get everything PS5 has to offer outside of physical games.

3. PS5 Standard Edition
This is below the DE because of the price. Yes it has more functionality, but it can't beat the value of the DE IMO. This is also coming from someone who buys games digitally mostly. Do I regret not getting a SE? Yeah, actually but that could be just because I regret getting the PS5 in general right now.

4. Xbox Series X
It's the most powerful console, but games. It has no games, and I can't put it higher then the PS5 when the PS5 has more games. Also PC has made the Xbox a harder and harder sale every day.

5. Switch Lite
Above the Series S you say? Absolutely. The Switch lite is great as a handheld, and it's a better handheld than the actual Switch itself. With next gen consoles widening the gap power wise even more I think the Lite makes even more sense if you treat it as a handheld because graphic wise it makes a lot of sense. If they release a Switch Pro that is docked only you can bet your ass I'm grabbing one and a Switch Lite (coral baby) to have the best of both worlds.

6. Xbox Series S
It's the best looking of all the consoles, so I'll give it that. But the PS5 DE exists and is only $100 more and twice as powerful with a actual slightly useable storage size. It has it's uses still especially as a secondary console, kids console, or dedicated Game Pass machine but it's the worst of the 6 IMO>

I think he was making a joke about how it doesn't stop people from sharing opinions even though they haven't formed them based on experience. The amount of people that talk shit about games/consoles without even owning them is super high as with any online forum/board.

1 - PS5 : the most powerful console in real performance. The best games.

2- PS5 DE : the best power / price ratio and the best games, but less options to buy them cheaper

3 - Switch : great 1st party games, the unique possibility to play them on the go, or on your TV.

4 - Series X : an okay but a bit boring alternative to PC. Lacks exclusive games and underperforms PS5 while costing more. Doesn't play kb / mouse pc exclusives like strategy games either.

5 - Switch lite : great 1st party games, but only playable on the go.

6 - Series S : bad deal compared to PS5 DE, no exclusive and sometimes even sub HD resolution. Better spend 100 more dollars and get the full next gen option.

Yeah. People arguing over video gamess is stupid. There's no objective "this system is best" because it comes down to preference. But that won't stop people from doing it I guess.

XSX - Best hardware, Best controller in a high quality, quiet problem-free build, Quick Resume, and with all the new studios plus the Zenimax Acquisition almost all my favorite games/series will be Xbox exclusive AND day 1 on Game Pass

Switch - While not personally a big fan of Nintendo games, it's great for those that do love them, I think the dual use Switch is super cool little machine and a good value at $300

XSS - 23 studios with all my favorite games/series - best looking new console, in a small, quiet box, best value Game Pass box for 1080 TV owners

PS5 - Powerful hardware, in a big. ugly box and while and don't personally like Sony exclusives it's great for those that do love them

PS5DE - Same as PS 5 w/o a 4K drive for $100 less

Switch Lite - handheld only - meh

From a purely hardware perspective I’d have the Switch and Switch lite dead last. It’s completely unacceptable that the drift problem seemingly can’t be fixed. Utter crap from Nintendo. As for the other 4, I think they all serve their purposes and I’m glad we have options instead of 2 £450 SKUs.
Just expanding on this;

1. Series S
Premium build quality, same SSD as the Series X, same CPU as the Series X. For me, this is the perfect Xbox if you want to experience Xbox’s First Party Studios. £249, simply amazing tech for the price. Get a 144hz 1080p monitor and you’re rocking.

2. PS5 DE
For me, this goes hand in hand with number 1. £359 and you get to experience all of Sony’s first party. There’s little emphasis on online gaming from Sony’s First Party, so I’m happy to have no subscriptions. If you don’t want to pay £70 a game, they’ll be half price or more within 12 months. If we subtract the DualSense RRP we are talking silly prices here

For just over £600 you can have a PS5 and an Xbox, I think it’s pretty amazing considering a modern Samsung or iPhone costs £1k.

3. PS5
Cost more than the DE, but you can buy Sony’s single player games, get the platinum trophy within a couple of weeks and if you want, resell for near full price. Great option to have.

4. Series X
Great build quality, but I’m happy with 1080p gaming. I can still play Starfield, Fable, Forza, Halo, Perfect Dark, Fallout 5, TeS 6 day one on my Series S. Not for me personally.

5. Switch
My joy cons drifted. Had to sell and buy an 8bitdo but that locks me out of certain games like Pokemon let’s go Eevee. Shoddy build quality which is something I never thought I’d say about Nintendo. Mario Kart and Smash are very similar to their Wii U iterations, I’d have sold it weren’t for Prime 4 and BotW 2.

6. Switch Lite
All the cons of joy con drift, but if it happens your whole console is fucked. No docking. POS IMO.

1. PS5 - most powerful next gen system, best first party. Third party exclusives and best performing multiplats. Best controller with unique innovations.
2. PS5 DE - all the same and better price but no discs knocks a point off
3. Xbox Series X - they tried
4. Xbox Series S - why do you exist?

I dont consider Switch current gen

#1 Ps5 - Has made effort to improve their controller with new cool features, Sony First party games are still unmatched
#2 Switch - The indie machine, Nintendo first party games are nice, i guess. I can play anywhere.
#3 Xbox Series X - The instant restart on Games is really a good feature, i hope Sony copies it, the new ecosystem is really nice and Gamepass Ultimare is a must.

#4 Switch Lite - A toy I would feel comfortable giving to a kid, Nintendo is doing that right, no compromise on the hardware
#5 Ps5 DE It's prettier than the regular Ps5, that's about it.

#999 Xbox Series S - This thing is going to get the wrong end of the stick from Devs, sure it has some support at launch but unless Microsoft force Devs to support it, I see a lot of Cyberpunk 2077 old gen similar fiasco in the future.

As a person who basically only plays one game at a time PS4 instant resume is already more than adequate. PS5 loading speeds make it even less of an issue.

1. PS5 digital: powerful, exclusives, fast, great controller for only 400.
2. PS5: same as the above, for those who like physical.
3. Series X: powerful, backwards compatible, all multis, gamepass.
4. Switch: exclusives and portability.
5. Series S: not a good deal VS 400 PS5DE, but better then last generation, gamepass.

Those below should only be bought for a low price, as their games play better on the new machines.
6. PS4/Pro: exclusives.
7. Xbox One X: good last gen performance, gamepass.
8. Xbox One: gamepass.

6. Xbox series S - Crappy digital, gimped performance and storage
5. Ps5 digital - Crappy digital, but not gimped like series s
4. Switch light - not much use due to inferior usage to the original switch, and I have no need for portability
3. Ps5 - ps4 back compat is enticing, but sony's big brother controller is offputting, plus no new games I care about
2. Switch - plenty of games, and I also love the attention it gets on the limited run game sites and physical game focus. The lack of new games coming soon other than NMH3 is disappointing though. Wtf bayo and metroid.
1. Xbox series x - Much, much better back compat than Ps5, but also no new games I care about. But overall, has the best library by far. Too bad I still can't find one. Have the whole damn library of xbox one, 360 and OG titles I care about, and I only have a 360 to play some of them ; _ ;

1- PS5 Digital: highest value next gen machine ever! And best looking next gen too.
2- PS5: same as above, higher price though.
3- PS4: library speaks of itself.
4- Switch: fantastic Ninty library in a portable form.
5- Series X: lackluster next gen offering with lacking controller (compared to PS5) .
6- Door step: useful sometimes...
.
.
1324 -Xbox Series S: expensive for what it offers, weaker than One X sometimes, and with PS5 DE only $100 more, it basically useless with cutbacks everywhere, less storage (slower too), GPU is on par with last gen refreshes and same old boring controller.

How does anyone claim XSX is the best hardware with a straight face?

It performs demonstrably worse that hardware with lower paper specs. It’s controller brings nothing new to the table. Even the UI is barely different than its last gen predecessor.

My answer is as follows:

#1 PS5 (Real world perf in games, DualSense, SSD and GE future potential)
#2 PS5 DE
#3 Switch
#4 Switch Lite
#5 Xbox Series X (see above)
...
..
.
#989 Xbox Series S (nobody asked for this)
