The unzipping scene wasn't in the final cut of Ghostbusters?

It was. Just the context around it completely changed. In the final film, it's framed as a dream sequence where Ray's fixation on their work as Ghostbusters has him getting a blowjob from one. This deleted sequence suggests otherwise.

I never said it was intended by the producers for children, but the general public did not take it in this manner.

It's a relatively tame movie by today's standards. The BJ scene is disappointing, full stop. A deleted scene isn't going to change that for me.

However, the post to which you were replying was asserting the truth. That you were one of many kids to see the film in theaters does not change that. It's just a reflection of the fact that in the 80s kids were not believed to be as soft they are now.

Awwww yeah can't wait to get more about that full on ghost BJ scene that had me recreating the story around it with the action figures when I was eight. Was I right that it was inspired by Poltergeist and afterwards Ray says "This dick is clean?"

Wow between this, The Day the Clown Cried, and the original ending to Phase IV all of my cinema holy grails have been achieved, if at least partially.

I went to the original in theaters. There were other kids there as well.

They didn't exactly turn kids away at the door.
Hey, I saw the movie when I was eleven at the time, a month or two after release. I wanted to see it because the song was on the radio constantly and the video was always on rotation on MTV at that point. I'm sure lots of kids were drawn in by the song and video, too, just as I'm sure it was still not exactly a kids movie.

IIrrelevant. It was not made for, or marketed to, children. The 80s were a better time when us kids could hear f-bombs and see tits, beheadings, and bush in the same PG movie. PG did not always mean kids movie. Then we got dumber and now trump is president.
Hmmm, yeah, and that was still in the midst of the whole moral majority crap.

True. I saw Ghostbusters and Gremlins at a drive-in with my parents (double feature).
Yeah, I'm pretty sure I saw GB and Purple Rain on the same night at the drive-in.

Dreamscape shits on all modern PG-13 movies.

Yes.

And today was the day I finally saw that Ray was wearing some sort of military uniform in the BJ dream. I had never noticed that fact.

There is a sizable subset of the geek population that is triggered by sexual content in genre stuff. For example, see also the folks who cry about the shower scene in Starship Troopers.

The same people also couldn't possibly enjoy Revenge of the Nerds because of the despicable rape scene when in reality, it's just another take on The Bed Trick, which is one of the oldest tropes in literature.

It's on the poster.

I hate that people refer to the new movie as "Ghostbusters: Answer the Call"

It's a tag line that people have used to differentiate the two generations of the franchise but it isn't a subtitle... Tons of movies put tag lines in prominent locations on their promotional materials. It's the same bullshit that bugs me about people who call Edge of Tomorrow "Live Die Repeat"

That'd be like saying the original film is called "Ghostbusters: Who you gonna call?"

Might as well start calling Mad Max: Fury Road "Mad Max: What a Lovely Day"

it literally says "Ghostbusters: Answer the Call" right when the credits start in the actual movie itself. It's the official subtitle of the film.

This is so cool. I always assumed that the scene that referenced it had some prior context to it, that cut it out.

It's not really a kids movie. It's an all audiences movie. There's some jokes that would definitely fly over the head of anyone under the age of 12

The only reason anyone would think of Ghostbusters as a kids film would be because of the merchandising and cartoon that came after. The original Ghostbusters film was really written more with adults in mind and considering Reitman / Ramis / Murray did Stripes (a fairly raunchy film) before, nobody should really be surprised by that.

It may not have started as the actual subtitle, but as of the movie's theatrical release that is the full name of the movie. It's at the end of the movie when they do the title card before the credits start, and it's on the DVD/BluRay box as a subtitle. Sorry if that bothers you, but that's what they called it to differentiate it from Ghostbusters, even if it was retroactive.

Man, that blowjob scene really bothers some people

It's funny because back then, nobody really cared or talked about it. The movie was number one at the box office for many weeks. But these days... sure.

Sounds awesome to me, I would be happy to see parts of that cabin sequence. I've often heard about it, but yeah, there was never any footage. That "Bill Murray" tape must be golden...

Wasn't Edge of Tomorrow called Live Die Repeat in some markets?

Yeah, I can't say that I remember seeing him in an officer's uniform. I guess I'm always looking at the unzippage... and I've seen this movie more than any other.

This is excellent news. Please do a blu-ray re-release in a black case with the original Ghostbusters VHS box art. The classic logo with a red border.

I would enjoy this greatly.

I wonder if that kickstarter GB documentary crew can somehow get ahold of some of this or at least info on this recent uncovering. Chances are it's too late if they weren't already involved.

This is what I thought of as soon as I saw this. I bet it's too late for them to get a hold of it, though, if Sony would even be willing to share it. Would be cool to see those scenes, but I'm definitely more curious to know what the fuck is on the Bill Murray tape.

I hate the BJ scene. Turns what is otherwise a fairly acceptable movie for some kids very awkward.

Dr. Peter Venkman: This man has no dick.

Dana Barrett: [as The Gatekeeper] I want you inside me.

Dr. Peter Venkman: We've been going about this all wrong. This Mr. Stay Puft's okay! He's a sailor, he's in New York; we get this guy laid, we won't have any trouble!

Dr. Peter Venkman: Grab your stick!
Dr. Peter Venkman: Heat 'em up!
Dr. Peter Venkman: Make 'em hard!

It's not Porky's or anything, but Ghostbusters was definitely not intended for children. Most parents in the 80s probably knew this and just didn't care if their kids heard a dick joke.

It's so true. I wasn't old enough to see the original Ghostbusters in cinemas, I would have only been 2 or 3 years old. But I watched the movie many times with my Dad on VHS. He didn't care about the sexual innuendo jokes that flew over my head.

I practically grew up with the SatAM cartoon series (both of them!, yeah even the Filmation Ghost Busters) and even had a lot of the toys from the cartoon series. It was a great cartoon for the '80's until it was ruined by focus group testing for all the wrong reasons.

But I did see GhostBusters II in the cinemas and I remember being excited as fuck. It was the first time I could see a movie like this in the cinemas. I didn't hate Ghostbusters II back then, I actually quite liked it. But looking back at this movie as I got older, it really lacked the edge of the first one. It honestly was retooled to be more friendly to kids my age (in 1989) who grew up with the cartoon and Ecto Coolers.

Seriously

It is super tame compared to today's modern comedies

But it's so off brand with the film's humour outside the scene. I'm not saying the movie was high comedy before, but it went into Sandler territory for a moment and it was super jarring.

I must be the only one who is bothered by the blowjob scene because it makes no sense. Why would a ghost blow the guy who's catching all it's friends and putting them in ghost prison?

Imagine there was a cop movie where, in a montage of arrests, there would randomly be a scene of a gangbanger blowing one of the cops. Even in a comedy that seems nonsensical.

I really hope that these end up on the next re-release. As weird as the scene might end up being, new Ghostbusters material is always great!

Sure? But people seem to be implying that it taints the movie on some moral level.

Nope, Peter makes lots of jokes and references to sex indirectly. Dana Barret's apartment inspection, etc

Suggestive jokes were made about the pink slime and Ray in the sequel

Why would a ghost want to eat food? Go jogging through the park? Organize a library card catalog?

The ghosts clearly aren't rational beings. They're spiritual echoes repeating the patterns of the people they were when alive. The ghost of a woman who was particularly sexually promiscuous might continue that pattern after death.

Why do you think all ghosts know eachother or are friends? Do all ghosts look the same to you?!

But seriously, the scene in the movie frames it like a dream. Ray is obsessed with his work. It's all encompassing. It's not crazy that he'd have a dream about it.

Most of that can be played off or go over kids heads.

Every time I've seen that movie I've never noticed what Ray was wearing in that scene until now.

It makes perfect sense, even in your hypothetical cop movie. She's sucking him off to get out of being trapped/arrested, duh. :p
