Ok. Lets take a minute and breathe. I think some of you guys are taking offense to OP's original post. While not 100% correct i think he has a small point.
Lets break it down the best we can (please feel free to correct me if i'm wrong)
Xbox One gave us something that I personally didn't think was possible. PPC architecture based games on a modern x86 console. Yes some of the games aren't 100%, some have frame issues. But it's something. Kinda how we got OG Xbox games on the 360.. we have jumped leaps and bounds tech wise and frankly MS did something amazing.
But ok this is one generation back and MS did it.
PS3 originally did it with true hardware compatibility, but that got expensive and frankly Sony slowly backpedaled and dropped hardware and did some with emulation then none. But this was all done with original discs. I think thats one of the key stabbings.
Sony has been very good with cross buy for a few pieces if hardware. PS1 games on PSN work on 3 different machines PSP, Vita, PS3. That alone is amazing and down right the correct way.
Sony this time around said, we need to make money again and instead of opening the flood gate, said.. "lets try this streaming thing" but instead of doing it cheap they chose a supplemental membership (all you can play) for 20 bucks a month, the game rental and price is awful.
So i know i'm just recanting what everyone knows, but I think the frustration is.. Sony is stalling. They are stalling to get some return on PS Now. I think they know it's not the winning idea they thought it was and want to find a way to monetize it.
I keep hearing that "enhancements and trophy support isn't cheap" and they are right. Xbox One doesn't have to deal with that as they are emulating a system that had achivements. PS2 didn't have those features. Now graphics is not.. a hard thing. The emulator is just applying smoothing and up res. But nothing extra. (as per the reviews of the SW titles out now)
I think the pain here is paying for something people might already own. But as a Nintendo fan we have been dealing with this garbage for many systems. 3DS, Wii, and now Wii U. They haven't gotten it right. I can't just plug in my copy of OoT and get a discount. Its annoying.
I think this is all going to be a trial by fire. I think Sony should meet the fans half way and while they can do this 15 bucks a title for PS2, they should flip the damn switch on PS1 games and PSP games and really start to flex their backlog.. because sad to say, MS is embracing it's past and empowering the gamers.. and Sony who walked into this console war with the good graces as being the higher gamer morals, is kinda staying stagnant. While MS has updated the GUI of the system, added external HDDs, and now backwards compatibility.
TL;DR - I think Sony is reeling at the PS Now backlash and trying to find a way to monitize it's backlog.. but it's stepping on the toes of it's loyal fan base that has already bought the same games many times.
