Raven to stream their old games for the 25th anniversary, including Singularity

Singularity themed COD map

Ravensoft used to be a pretty good developer, but they've been stuck on COD for far too long.

I think most of the people are still there at this point, if Activision was actually willing to take a chance, Raven could do something special again.

Yeah, there's a presentation they did a year or two back on YouTube, and it seems a surprising number of their core creative staff are still there. And I guess you could say they've been promoted from just doing just CoD map packs recently, given that they are also in charge of the Chinese free to play Call of Duty Online thing.

i liked the time i spent on the game. it falls on a average type of scripted game, but the setting was at that time fresh and mostly covered by STALKER and not much else, and the gameplay really made it unique. Other game that was vaguely similar was Timeshit, but that one is way more generic.

Somebody post that rage video of the kid trying to get past the area with the valves and the spiders, always makes me lmao. : D

(frankly, i'd rather have Raven develop another open/hub world Wofenstein type of game. really liked that one. very fresh take on the oldschool formula. had some great fun killin' me some nazis in that)

Absolutely love Raven Software; they're one of the very few development studios I've actively followed through the years in order to play as much of their output as possible.

I'll happily devote some time to these streams, provided some of them are on at UK-sensible times.

I never understood what happened to Raven...one of the greatest devs of the 90s and early 00s relegated to a fucking DLC sweatshop.

i've been meaning to pick this up, should be ultra cheap by now.

edti: 2.99 used at GS. may pick up later today

Singularity is a great game. Was similar to Bioshock in a way, but with more elaborate scripted sequences. I guess this news is probably about a remaster, but it would be awesome if they got to make a sequel.

Edit: People who try it on PC now should definitely apply some SGSSAA to make the graphics shine.

Sorry to disappoint you, but it looks like they intend to play through their old games on twitch to celebrate their 25th anniversary and this tweet by context seems to be part of that.

So fucking disappointing. Singularity is head and shoulders better than every COD since 4. Damn you, Activision.

Raven Software is still around? Not trolling, I'm genuinely surprised.

Yep they are, but in a reduced size to support COD these days. One of my favourite developers along with Monolith Productions. Those two companies along with id software basically shaped my gaming childhood essentially (well them and Sega plus Nintendo to an extent). Followed them all for years and love most of their games too tbh. Hell I like their Wolfenstein 2009 game more than Wolfenstein The New Order as I think it's just much more fun to actually play.

Is one of the few companies I actively despise, and what they did to Raven is large part of why that is.
I'm with You on this one.
Its so baffling that they manage to transform Raven to COD map pack studio from one of the best FPS studios in the industry.

If Bethesda manage to kill Arkane, i think will personally travel to Zenimax and put them on fire...

Singularity. One of the best single players games of all time.
One of the few games I've played more then once. I loved it.

The thought of a next gen remake has me very moist.

Fuck that piece of shit section. I haven't raged as hard I did during that since losing against Alma in Ninja Gaiden for the twentieth fucking time.

I swear, once you do it and look back, you realise how easy it was, but in the moment, you get so worked up and your anger just leads to you making rookie mistakes that make you more angry. It's a vicious cycle and it's one that's impossible to break as you become so stubborn that you refuse to give up until you've done it...

Okay. I'm a bit disappointed. :(
