Rayman Legends Wii U Challenge Mode eShop in April

i dont even know what you people are angry about now
The game is finished, but is being delayed 7 month to a period of time where there will be bigger games being released that we may want to play more. My excitement for this game really fizzled with the delay. I don't blame the developers at all and understand the logic behind the decision, but that doesn't change the fact that Ubisoft is sitting on a finished game for 7 month.

I'll download this when it comes out and maybe it will build some hype back up.

You know what, I think I know how this works.

From the video:

They control all the content in this "free game."

One day you'll boot it up and no challenges will be available and it'll say "please buy Rayman Legends, available in stores now and on the eShop."

They should kill the play limit for the demo too...
That can be done. The Final Fanasy Theatrhythm demo on the 3DS has no limit attached to it.

Edit: Like I said this is about trying to salvage what they can. Their way of asking people to still buy the game when it comes out. This gives them, if a person downloads it, a direct channel to keep reminding people about the game (rebuild some hype and goodwill) until the new release date. If they didn't think there was a problem after what happen I don't believe they'd have done anything like this.

Are people really complaining about getting a significant chunk of content for free.
Like some of the posts saying they'll have too many other games in april to check out a free download. Im just baffled. Yeah the delay still fucking sucks, but it feels like people are just inventing reasons to stay mad now.

I wonder if this means they will have time to add MiiVerse functions to the final game. With this delay and the revelation of the online mode it seems like it would be possible.

That's cool. I probably won't end up buying Legends now because of new consoles coming out later this year as well as new Wii U games (only so much money to go around), so it's nice to know I'll get to play something.

As free content, this is a nice move. My first fear was they were going to charge for it, and it was just content they were taking from the existing game anyway, so it would've ended up forcing you to pay twice for the same thing.

I wonder who decided to push for this, Nintendo or Ubi.

Wait "RT"? Bullshit, this is not exclusive. They'll probably release it one week later for other consoles. Release the damn game already Ubisoft!

They specifically said theyre adding new levels/bosses/characters. Or is this all a conspiracy and they just made that up?

To be fair, they specifically said they want to, not that they are.

Nice catch. They wasted no time defaulting to 360 footage. :(
The video starts from the actual game's main screen where they enter the Challenge section from. The video is not of the free extracted mode but of the full game.

Wait, online challenges? Now I really need to know how much they were influenced by The Fancy Pants Adventures...

Good news, though, miles better than an exclusive demo.

Ya inventing being treated like turds a few weeks ago. ... pretty sure no one invented that.

I'm glad Ubisoft at least did something regarding the outcry. And a free challenge mode with online leaderboards sounds a lot cooler than a demo. This is acceptable to me. In fact, it sounds like a rather addictive part of the main game being released free of charge to U fans.

April will be good timing as they'll have time to actually turn this into something cool. March will have Lego, Monster Hunter, and Need For Speed anyway. Something by Feb is what we wanted, but realistically, throwing something out ASAP after the brakes had been slammed would have just resulted in a junky demo.

Thumbs up Ubi (though I think Ancel & Co. deserve most of the credit).

it's still bullshit that ancel and his team had to work hard for nothing, and now have to work harder not just in porting the game, but appeasing wii u fans, but at least everyone will get to play the game. i hope wii u fans will forget about their boycotting plans. this is a nice gesture.

I seriously doubt they havent been working on PS3/360 versions the whole time. The game was leaked as a multiplatform title with the Wii U version having "Exclusive" features.

I'll go with what someone said earlier and it's not enough. This isn't what I wanted the game for, so this isn't going to make me change my position. I don't want challenge modes, I just want the actual game. Not into challenge mode type things in games, so this doesn't offer anything to folks like me. Is it great for folks who are into that? Sure. But this doesn't change my perspective on this whole crap deal.

I still feel bad for the Developers, but as a Wii U owner who was upset with the way Ubisoft handled the entire situation*, I have to say that I'm "Ok" with this. It seemed pretty obvious that they weren't going to cave and release the game, and this seems much better than an "exclusive demo".

*Has nothing to do with going multi-plat

I do believe I said "stay mad" instead of acting like there was never a legitimate reason to not be mad in the first place(which there was)
But I guess you forcibly missing my point kind of proves it in a way, so thanks for that :)

As a Wii U owner I can accept this as a "Next best thing" solution. I sort of already accepted that Ubi were very unlikely to turn back around and release the Wii U version after making the Multi-plat announcement.

I mean I'm sure it's going to be a long drawn out glorifed demo mode, with the levels not staying once their time period passes, but it's still pretty cool if they plan to add levels from April on a regular basis. Hopefully your high scores in challenge mode ports over to the main game once it's done.

Still not as ideal as releasing the game, but I imagine if they want to take time to add more to the game as well, then it can't be all bad. Just wish it wasn't being sent to die in the September market

I also don't get why the developer is trying to say this delay gives them more time to add new bosses and levels to a finished game?

Seriously dude? Your time will be spent porting to PS360

Honestly better than I was expecting. Doesn't change the circumstances though, I would have 100% bought the game had it released this month. September is a different story.

Thanks for at least trying to make this right though. It's greatly appreciated.

That's pretty awesome of the dev team to do. They honestly didn't have to do anything about it, but I'm glad we're getting this instead of a simple demo. I can't wait.

I'm reserving judgement until I get my hands on it and see how much content it is. If it's just those few levels they showed in the video, then it's a demo with leaderboards. It could be really cool though if they support it with new challenges between April and the full game's release (rather than waiting until the game is out then pushing the challenges to all three versions of the game).

I do hope they can use the extra time to add new levels to all versions of the game like they suggested though, rather than just working on the ports while the Wii U version sits there.

Woah...how did they get this ready so fast?
It was originally a part of the main game, which has been completed for a while now. All they need to do with the extra time is extract it into its own thing that can be played separately, instead of launched from the full game's menu. Shouldn't be much more work than just giving us another demo.

April? It would have been better for Ubisoft if this was their back-up plan for later this month. It would have avoided a lot of drama. However, the screw-up was so multi-layered that while they may have succeeded in pacifying the outrage, it still does nothing to change the fact they literally send the game off to die this fall.

In fact, I feel sorry for the dev team now, because people will always be excited about free stuff, but seriously, how many of those people are 100% certain they'll purchase the game this September when their attentions will be on other games? Surely, Ubisoft must know this by now, so I'm guessing that this gesture is more about winning back Wii U gamers' trust for the long term, more than it is about securing Wii U Rayman sales in the short term. If good fortune is on their side, it may end up doing both.

We had a first delay because it was obvious we couldn't finish on time but we gave it all to be there on February. What face do you think we had when the week we had to close the game we're being told it's not going to be released? I couldn't believe it. - dev team
It looks as if the development team wasn't informed about Ubisoft's decision to delay the game and go multiplatform until shortly before Ubisoft publicly announced the news.

On the one hand, I'm glad we won this with our protests. On the other hand, if we won this, it shows they are concerned and we could earn more.

Michel Ancel looked so sad for us in this video :-/

I'll take this and Watch Dogs and call it a fair trade. Just have to wait for...I guess Pikmin 3, but I'll be busy with the 3DS anyways so meh. I might try out Lego City Undercover if it gets decent reviews (MH3 I'll get on the 3DS).
