Recommend me some Must Own DS Games

I own American Skateland, Castlevania:DOS, and Mario 64.

I'm not a huge fan of turn based stratagy or racing which is why I haven't given Advance Wars DS and Mario Kart DS a purchase.

I'm looking for something that will get me plenty of bang for my buck. What's out there? I'm getting tired of games that don't offer much anything the GBA can't.

Phoenix Wright is a must play. Not so sure about a must buy (zero replay value). Proabably my fave game on the DS so far.

Kirby: Canvas Curse
Mario and Luigi: PiT
Meteos
Animal Crossing
Metroid Pinball
Bomberman if you are gonna play multi!

Animal Crossing WW
Mario Kart DS
Advance Wars DS
Kirby Paintbrush/canvas Curse
Mario & Luigi Partners in Time
Meteos

Soon-to-be-released stuff:
Children of Mana
Lost Magic
Super Princess Peach
Tetris DS

kirby ds will give you 20 hours of sweet sweet banging for your buck. It also can't be replicated on any other system. Meteos too. 40 hours into that to get all the planets unlocked.

of course Ouendan, but don't forget 'Daigasso Band bros' if you like rythm games.
Otherwise, yes, go on with what's given.

No Mario Kart? :( Ok.

Yoshi's Touch & Go and Mario Kart are the two must owns IMO.

Kirby, Wario Touched, Meteos, Sonic Rush, Pac Pix, Metroid Pinball, and Advance Wars all are really good too.

Truth is, there really isn't any must own DS games. There are some very good DS games but none of them can qualify under "must own" in my opinion.

Mario Kart DS is the best MK yet. It's a must own game.

I am so tempted to buy Bust-A-Move for $20, but I am too scared that the touch screen has ruined the experience by making the player pull back on the slingshot to shoot the orbs, which sounds kind of hard and would take too much time to do. Someone put me out of my fears.

Yep, if the best Mario Kart is not a must own, then I don´t know what it is. Animal Crossing is another good example of Must Own game.

ehm i'd say:

Ouendan
Animal Crossing
Mario Kart
Phoenix Wright

Haven't played trauma center (yet), but i heard a lot of good things about that game.

-Mario Kart DS: at least give it a try, it's not your regular racing game and you might like it
-Ouendan (IMPORT)
-Meteos
-Sonic Rush: best Sonic game EVR!
-Metroid Pinball: if you like... ehmm, pinball, then it's a must buy.
-Advance Wars DS: I can't NOT put it on the list 'cause I've spent 60+ hours with the game.
-Kirby: it's really really nice, problem is that is sooooooo easy, there's no challenge at all... you've got to decide if the unique gameplay experience makes up for it (and I'm not talkin' gimmicks here).
-Viewtiful Joe Double Trouble: if you didn't dig WJ2 but you liked Clover Studio previous Joe release, then go for it... it's a *proper* action adventure, also it's so beautifully above the average DS' graphics

Trauma Center: you wanna try it first, maybe rent it, 'cause in my opinion story mode gets too hard too early, as soon as Level 5 it starts to be really (but really) difficult in a fail&retry way.

I wouldn't touch nor Feel The Magic XY nor WarioTouched, they tend to get boring pretty soon after the initial "wow" (and not so wow) factor disappears.
Also, scratch Yoshy: there's plenty of proper games on the system NOW.

For me, Phoenix Wright is the definitive DS game, but the game that makes the best case for the hardware itself is probably Kirby: Canvas Curse.

Buy it, now, and understand why you're oh so very wrong.

Mario Kart DS for me as well, and I abhor racing games; though as others have mentioned MKDS most certainly falls far from what most people conceive of as the "racing" genre. Brilliant game.

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow says hi.

As for recommendation to the OP:

Mario Kart -- I'm no fan of racers, but this is fun
Metroid Prime Pinball -- pinball is always fun
Animal Crossing -- if you want "bang for your buck", I guess. I'm not a fan of it, but if you are online, I guess you'll get alot of value out of it.

MARIO KART 64 SAYS HI
I didn´t know MK64 had 32 circuits. I didn´t know MK64 had 36 differents karts. I didn´t know you could play 8 players wireless or play online. I didn´t know there was a mission mode in MK64. I didn´t know it run at a silky smooth 60fps. Probably these things I didn´t know were not there, which basically mean, it´s not the same game or partially the same game. It´s a Mario Kart yes, but a quite revamped version.

but the thing is, i played the same game that looked "slightly" worse than it 8 years ago

Graphics whores are what's wrong with the DS, not the DS.

And if you're insinuating that the game is reusing old gameplay, then that would be your preconceptions shining through again.

Must own? I don't think so. The game is very well put together but unless you're always playing against people, then the fun pretty much ends when you get everything in the game. Plus playing online is a mixture of fun and shit, with good players on one side and snakers and early disconnectors on the other.

Unless you have a bunch of friends, if you rent MKDS for a month, thats probably good enough for most people.

Funny how that works out, yes?

Its not my fault that my opinion = fact

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow says hi.

I said "Hi" to it twice. The game is well done but fun? Not really. Must own? Definitely not. My definition of fun isn't exploring the same area 30 times throughout a game to get from one area to the next.

I still see people listing good games as must own. Must own and good are two completely different things. One is a classic that you could enjoy years down the road. Good is games you have fun with and once you beat it, thats pretty much it. I'm sure some of you will try to claim that you will play Trauma Center or some above average DS game many times when we all know that a year from now, it will be collecting dust or sold off.

Bah if you like throwing away $35 for a couple of hours boring but unique gameplay then by all means yes...

(this was a reference to somebody picking feel the magic.) Feel the Magic is cheap now, the Wal-marts near me have it on sale new for 15 bucks. Throwing away 15 bucks isn't nearly as bad!

I will have to say Meteos. Even if you unlock everything, it's still Meteos! Plus it's not selling enough copies. Everybody should own it!

As for Ouendan, I love it, and it's my absolute favorite game for the DS, but well, some people might have a problem that it's mostly trial and error/memorization. But even with that, the game is insanely addictive and fun!
